So mold isn't good for your health. So I'm in my basement tearing down some shelves to get rid of them to make room for my dark room, and HOLY Poo! My mom turns the sink on upstairs and all this water start to shoot out of our pipes. LORD mold all over the wall the floor like ainch of black mold all over. That can not be healthy for anyone living in this house. On top the fact we have abestoes heating pipes. I think I shaved like 15 years off of my life today. Um so I think I'm moving my darkroom to my bathroom. I don't know what kind of mold it is. I want to take some and bring into the bio lab and see what kind it is. AAll I know thers a lot, and alot of stagent water sitting there and a poo load of mold from floor to ceiling and on all the shevles. I should have worn a mask... When i asked my dad what he was gunna do about it he said just let it dry! Thats hazardous how do i convince my 80+year old stubborn father that this is way worse and that our plumber is a moron for trying to fix the pipes by it today with out getting the mold cleaned up, ! Spores are probally getting realsed everywhere.
Also i have mold on cement, thats not normal right? What should I do.... how do i get parents to understand that letting this amount of mold dry isn't good and that we need to get it cleaned up professionally. They don't want to pay for it, but can't I call like an emergency hotline and have the environmental people come and do it?

Well, I haven't dealt with mold a large scale, but mold builds up quickly here in Hawai'i's humid climate.

For small amounts of mold -- on the bathroom walls, for example -- I wipe it off with bleach. I've heard that's supposed to kill the mold. (Hope it's true.) Once I do that, I don't get mold again in the same place.

Good luck! (And I'm envious of you having a darkroom! :D )

Bleach will kill anything (even AIDS). A 1:10 ratio will clean very dirty surfaces. I'd mix up a 1:5 ratio and scrub everything down (wear propper PPE!)

Ann! :D Good to see you although I wish it was under better circumtances.

I can relate with what you said about having a hard time convincing your P and M about the hazards of mold.

I would suggest you call your local heath dept. You may have to handle all the calls and information for your parents and if need be have someone come out and take a look at it to see if it's something you can clean up on your own or something you'll need help with.

Call the Health Dept. and ask! Just to be sure and safe and let us know how this all works out. I'm going to be worrying about you in the mean time! So get back here and tell us how you're doing 'kay?
