maybe there should be a tip section or board on here.

I want to pass this along as a tip, especially since a few people have told me they are training their husband/boyfriend/s.o. to be of some use in their haircare.

Because of bad planning last night, it was real late when my wife did the washing and cream rinse, and did not want to go to sleep with the wet hair, or stay up super late for it to dry naturally.

As much as I really hate the idea of blow drying, on those rare times that she must do it, If I actually do it, and hold the hair dryer really far away, (I mean like 3 feet, or 1 meter away), I do not believe that any damage is being done.

I would use one hand to stroke through the hair , never stayed more than 5-10 seconds in a row in any one area, and within 15 mins, it was dry, (currently b/s length) my hand never felt hot from the dryer, so I'm sure it was o.k.

hope this helps anyone that might need to blow dry occasionally.

I have to blow-dry every morning at the moment because I want to wash in the morning and then I can't go off to work with wet hair because it's been icy cold over here. (In the summer or when it's not freezing, I DO leave the house with wet hair.) I always blow-dry only for ten minutes or less and I use the lowest setting which means COLD air. And since I've done that every winter in my whole life I know for sure that it doesn't damage my hair. I DO see a difference concerning shine and moisture when I use warm or hot air, though. This is why I ALWAYS ONLY use COLD air. Mind you: My hair is only bs-length. For those with much longer hair, even cold blow-drying might be damaging because the ends are just older...

Hood dryers are gentler than blow dryers. Just make sure you get one with low watts (between 350 watts to 1200 watts.) Your wife could roller set her hair and then sit under a hood dryer. Depending on your wife's hair length and thickness, it could take anywhere between 30-60 minutes to get her hair dry under a hood dryer. If she just wants to get the hair moderately dry, it may only take 15 minutes. Tenderheaded.com has a soft bonnet hood dryer that has low watts. Lady Dazey also makes good hood dryers. I have the Lady Dazey 1200 watt hood dryer and really like it. Hope this helps.
