I was wondering if knox gelatin would hurt or help a person's hair?
I was thinking of doing that cococnut milk soak, but maybe thickening
it with knox gealtin first. Is this a bad idea?

Umm, I don't know for sure, but it sounds potentially messy! Maybe eat the gelatin instead?

I would suggest that too
My nails just loves Jell-O… gives them a real boost!
I haven’t seen any benefits for my hair, but hair and nails are made from almost the same material so my guess is its good for hair too

If you can find it, one tablespoon of unflavored gelatin in a glass of orange juice will do the same thing. I use to do that years ago for nails and joints. In fact, I think I will try this again myself.

i think i may have found a health food store that still sells them in pill form, but i've heard a lot about biotin lately and think i may try that! course if it doesnt work i already know that the gelatin does :)

Wow, I remember having a box of Know gelatin around and eating that stuff. I had no IDEA if it really DID work.

HOW long until you notice a difference in your hair with eating JELLO?

Pity the pudding doesn't do the same thing! I LOVE choc fudge pudding! Moo!

God bless!

Gelatin; that's interesting. Does anyone know if it does anything for the texture of your hair, too? Or just the length? (Not that i couldn't use some help there!) I know that they put gelatin in some nail polish removers for "strengthening". Just wondering if it thickens hair too.

I think it would be a great idea for your hair. I recently did a gelatin treatment recipe that I found in a book for natural hair care. It was really simple. Something like a package of gelatin dissolve in a cup of hot water. Cool, add essential oils and use as a hair rinse. It worked fine for me.

There used to be a poo/cond called Cortexx that had gelatin in it. I had great results with it, but it seems to be gone now.
I think I would use pure gelatin to try on my hair, as I remember knox being orange colored and sugary.

Lone, I found a link to a site that looks like it still carries it. HTH

Here's a recipe for a great conditioner that uses gelatin.
1 packed unflavored gelatin
1/4 cup warm water
1 egg
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Dissolve the gelatin in the warm water and stir well. Add in the egg and lemon juice.
Can be used after shampooing as a normal conditioner (leave on a minute or two) or can be used alone as a deep conditioner (leave on 20 minutes or as long as you'd like).
Rinse well with warm (not too warm) water for at least a couple minutes and follow with a cool-water rinse.
This recipe should make enough for one application. If you have really long hair you might want to double it.

I'm not sure if you want to know how the conditioner works or how eating it works...
I used this conditioner once a week to help get rid of the fuzzy, damaged look from too much processing. I haven't used it since I stopped dyeing and bleaching my hair.

the conditioner version, i 'm going for my last dye job tomorow, i died it blonde over the summer for the very first time and recently dyed it again to have my natural hair color back and then it faded bunches wich was to be expected, so tomorow i'm going for another on to get it closer to my haircolor. i just came back from canada and the plane ride wich i got trapped in for 1.5 hours i think did a number on my hairs, its been super super dry within the 10 days that i was gone and i'm looking for homemade conditioners because i'm not getting any results with the commercial kind.

I found treseme has a anti-brakage shampoo and conditioner that has gelatin in it I have not tried it as of yet with my hair only being in a pixie cut, I am trying the co method without using additional conditioner. It is a heavier conditioner. I would like to know your results if you do try it as I am hoping to have longer hair. It is a good value, and plan to buy it as soon as I need more conditioning.

What is it in the gelatin that speeds up growth? Seems I've heard of it being used for that, but I was never sure why.

What is it in the gelatin that speeds up growth? Seems I've heard of it being used for that, but I was never sure why.

From what I can tell, gelatin is basically protein. As a source of protein, it would promote hair growth, like any other protein.

It's made by boiling bones - in no way vegetarian, if that is a concern. Vegetarian gelled desserts, as far as I know, are thickened with starch and won't have a similar nutritional effect.

And its not a balanced protein, or particularly concentrated when you're eating a serving of prepared gelatin dessert.

If the protein type in gelatin is one specifically needed in hair, then concentrated gelatin (such as capsules) may help hair growth. But I'd need to do more research to figure that out. Prepared jello would probably be too dilute, and not give you enough to make a difference.

Overall, eating protein is good for hair (since hair is made from protein), and gelatin can be a way of getting protein. I suspect a more concentrated, balanced source of protein would give you more benefit than gelatin, (definitely for general health, maybe for hair) but I'd have to do more research to back that up, too.
