View Full Version : Another gel nails photo
Madeleine March 12th, 2003, 02:27 AM As promised - another pic of my nails :-)
This time I can't take any credit for the look, because my nail tech did all the work - the glitter is underneath the last layer of gloss gel, just like regular "permanent french" white gel would be. No messing around with polish for a few weeks, yay ;)
And I got a five Euro discount on the regular french set price, because she mixed the glitter gel herself and this is the first time she uses it on a customer - so I'm the guinea pig for her to see if there's any lifting or other problems with it.
I painted my toes dark purple with a similar clear glitter polish on top - love the coordinated look :-)
It's hard to catch the iridescent sparkling with a camera, but here's a try (it has way more depth and intensity IRL) :

Cowgal March 12th, 2003, 03:11 AM Hey that's purty!
I gotta ask though- doesn't the glitter snag your hair? Or is it completely smooth under the top layer of polish..
Hollie March 12th, 2003, 03:20 AM Man!! Your nails are gorgeous, Madeleine! I wish I could have nails like that, but I know I'd trash them in less than a week. :(
Jonobie March 12th, 2003, 05:54 AM Those are awesome! It looks like you've got little opals on each finger... :)
Cheers,
Jonobie
turquoise_girl March 12th, 2003, 11:01 AM Beautiful! I love sparkles, and it looks like this could be worn with jeans as well as a lovely evening dress!
euphrasyne March 12th, 2003, 11:05 AM The glitter finish shows up very well :) That is a very nice look!

Madeleine March 12th, 2003, 02:51 PM Thanks everyone for your lovely comments :-)

Completely smooth - the glitter is not under a layer of top coat polish, but under a layer of UV curing gloss gel, which is much thicker than polish. It has to be filed off to be removed on my next appointment.
The procedure with gel refills is to shorten the nail - file off some of the gel that's on the nail including roughening the part of the natural nail that has grown out - applying thick gel overall - cure with UV light - shape and roughen the surface and edges - apply gloss gel - cure.
The glitter gel (or for permanent french, white gel) is applied and cured before the gloss gel.
If I use glitter polish or decals I apply at least two layers of top coat to get it all smooth.

Oh yes, I hadn't really thought of that ... unfortunately I don't have any opal jewellery to match, but I wish :)
snippet March 12th, 2003, 07:18 PM oh that is lovely! It does look like opals! I'd have cracked and broken nails in a day though :(
Stephanie March 12th, 2003, 07:44 PM Man, that looks COOL! I love it!!!
How are the UV's with lifting? Any experience with that?
Those look SO good. Thanks for posting! :D

Never had any problems - there is some minimal detachment at the edges (probably less than 0.5mm), enough to catch a tiny bit of dirt or polish residue that's hard to remove. But that's after four weeks, just before my next appointment.
I've had gel nails for two years now and never had to go for a repair in between regular refills.
My friend OTOH, who is with the same nail tech, has a schedule of only two to three weeks. She often has lifting or cracks in the gel and blames it on the way her nails grow.
But I know that she's much harder on her nails, like never wearing gloves when working with water or dirt, using her nails to scratch off stuff, handling her sometimes ferocious large dog, opening soda cans with her nails etc.pp. - I never do any of that, I'm very gentle with my hands. My only sin is typing with my nails rather than with my fingertips.
LongRed March 13th, 2003, 03:17 PM I have a nail tech certification (not
practicing) and have never seen this
done....(I've been out of it for a while)
That looks really coool! :D
Chamomile betty March 16th, 2003, 04:08 AM Madeleine your nails are awesome.
I only have about 2 weeks of work left and then I will let my nails grow. I remembered I promised you I would take a pic when they are long and I will :)
Angel Hugs and Love
