Hi all,
Been a lurker for awhile decided to interact.

Let my tell you about my hair.
I have 1aFii hair. Waist length, color treated strawberry blonde.
My goal is to have healthy classic length. I have never had my hair that long previous. The longest I have ever had was a little past tail bone.

On the poll asking age I selected the 40-45 range. Yep, I am as old as dirt...LOL.

Hair care (recently changed due to the info on this and other boards)

I CWC two times a week.
Deep condition once a week.
Use BBB once a day. I do 20 strokes.
Only use wide toothed comb on hair otherwise.

Products:
I alternate shampoos on each wash: Aura Madder root to Farouk Biosilk and then to Loreal Color Vive.
Spray in post wash/pre-condition: Redken Headstrong.
Conditioner: Loreal Vive.
Deep conditioners: alternate biweekly with Loreal Mega Moisture and Professional Protein Pak.
Leave in daily: Redken Anti-Snap

Now the question. I do not use any hair spray. When I put my hair up I have baby fly away hairs. Is aloe vera gel good for this? What impact will it have on my hair? Is it good for it?
I should mention I have a VERY TENDER scalp and avoid any product that makes my hair sticky and would then necessitate in me detangling
hence::: HORROR OF HORROR:::hair pulling.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the boards, Phantom2u! :)

Aloe vera gel is a great light setting gel. I won't lie, it is a little stiff when it dries, but isn't that what we want it to do? dry in the position we want and leave it that way for a period of time - somewhat stiff, not loose and flyaway?

All I can say is give it a try. Maybe try it the day before wash day. Then, if you are afraid to brush/comb it out, then you can just rinse it out.

 I just had an idea. Maybe if you sprayed it with water a minute or so before combing it out it would soften it back up so you could work with your hair without it being so stiff.

Don't get me wrong, aloe vera gel is not *stiff*. As a matter of fact, your hair is pretty "natural" looking when you use it, unlike many drug store gels. It is just "stiffer" than hair au naturale! ;)

Hope that helps a little . . . and welcome again! :)

I am thinking I may try it as what prevents me from putting my hair up more often is the fly aways.
Mix with water there is an idea.

Welcome to LHC, Phantom2u! :D

I use aloe vera gel with updos from time to time without any sticky problems. I use very little, however, and usually just to spot smooth a few places, or wayward ends in a bun. ;-)

Hope it works for you!

Hi Phantom2u! :D

I think our hair is very similar. I have fine, straight, color-treated hair.

I r-e-a-l-l-y like the Jessicurl styling products like Gelebration Spray and Awe Inspiraling Spray... even thought my hair is stick straight. They are great for giving a bit of shape to the hair and controlling any fly-aways. It's about $10 for trial sizes of all the styling products.

Thanks for you thoughtful replies.

Rosepetal I went to website you posted. I must say I liked the ingredients in the product.
For others interested it is:
( I copied this off of the web site)

Gelebration Spray: A lighter version of Rockin' Ringlets, for finer haired curlies. Works as hard to define your curls, but is light enough that it won't weigh them down.

Ingredients: Water, Flax Seeds, Aloe Vera Gel, Vegetable Glycerin, Jojoba Oil, Magnesium Sulfate, Fragrance and Essential Oils, Germall Plus

\Choices, Choices.

Welcome!
I dump aloe into my conditioner, and use an after-sun gel (has PVC) in my leave-in. Definitely notice a difference if I go without.

Welcome!
I use aloe gel to tame the fly-aways too. But watch out for alcohol in the gel. Some store brands have a high alcohol content that will dry your hair.
