Hello there!
I have several beta fish and I'm noticing
they're finiky eaters. I got several kinds,
flakes, pellet like things....right now I'm
feeding a new one Bio-Gold...he's liking
it ok.
Do any of you have betas and if
so, what do you feed them?

I used to breed bettas and had fifty or so males and females at one point in time. Unfortunately, most of them are in fishy heaven now as this was a few years back.

I used to feed them all pellet food called Betta bites by HBH. I originally tried feeding my first male flake food, but he didn't care for it at all. All of my bettas, including the baby ones when they were big enough to eat "adult food" were happy with the pellets.

One of these days I will pull my fish tanks from retirement and buy some more bettas. I don't think I will consider breeding them again though, when it was time to separate the babies before the males when into attack mode, I had about fifty or so jam jars lined up on my kitchen counter which had to be cleaned every week!

When they got too big for the jars and I was able to tell which were female and which were male, I had to go out and buy separaters to keep the males apart from each other. It was a lot of work and being in school, I don't think I would have time for that anymore! It was an interesting learning experience though!

I used to have a betta and he was a very finicky eater. I had to feed him live black worms. He wouldn't eat anything else.

:( I miss him, makes me want to get another...

Holy cholitas! This new fish
(as I have named, Fitch)
is so active! I came home from
work yesterday and he completely
moved the plant that I had with him!
And he was wildly swimming around!
What a ham! (I believe this one may
be young as he's small!)

So far he is liking that Bio-Gold!
PHEW!

I have a small mirror taped to the outside of Simply Red's bowl so he can flash around.

Since I killed my Beta, I guess I'm not a good
one to give advice on what they like to eat.

But I do know something that would like to eat a Beta....

When the kids and I had our 3 bettas, we fed them the flakes but they really hated it. Finniky guys. Then I got the great idea to feed them mosquito larvae from my water tub. I have a big tub that I collect rain water in for my bonsai trees and mosquitos breed there all the time. Anyways, I got a net, scooped them up and dropped the larvae into the beta bowl and they LOVED it.
