I ask, because I'm getting mighty confused about what is and is not a "drying oil". See, I've read before that olive oil is drying. But my Earthly Bodies, Heavenly hair book says that it's one of the most moisterizing (and uses it for its "mature skin" recipes). I've also read that almond oil is moisterizing, yet EB,HH says it's drying. Lots of things seem to be really contradictory!
Help?
Cheers,
Jonobie

wow, the only thing I can think of, is since it's different for everybody, you just have to try it out on your self and see...some people find olive oil drying, some people love it...it just depends what your skin likes...
my skin likes it when I eat lots of olive oil, I'll tell you that much!!!! mmmmm....good olive oil.... :D

My hair liked olive oil at first, but then it turned into straw. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, because I've never had that problem with jojoba and sweet almond oil.
But I guess it's different for different hairs?

Yeah, my hair didn't like olive oil at *all*, but my skin seems to soak it up. (My kitchen chemist disaster? The honey+olive oil condioner that's so frequently recommended at online recipe sites. Yetch. Stick, gooey and smelly while in -- strawlike and dry after I *finally* got it out.) I'm curious why that is -- I always assumed my hair and skin would react the same way, since both my skin and my hair seem to really like almond oil. But I used some olive oil on my hands the other day, and they were *really* soft.
I wish that writers of natural-type books would explain how it is they make their determinations. I wouldn't mind if the writer merely said, "I've found this oil drying on my skin," or, "Most people in my classes find this oil drying" -- but they often state it as if it's this fact and there's some test for "drying oils" that they've run it through. And so I never know how seriously to take their pronoucements. :-/
