WE DO! Look at Butterball's paws in the pic - he has an extra thumb digit and looks like he has mittens on! LOL! We have a vet appt. at the end of the month and I'm going to ask all kinds of questions! Does or did anyone ever have a polydactyl cat? The other cat in the picture is Casper! I'm happy to report that they are getting along fabulously!

(BTW, my pic looks blurry. Are digital cameras more sensitive than regular ones? Thanks!)

isn't he a CUTIE!!!!!!!!!

I've never had a polydactyl cat, but have seen them before. From what I understand they don't have any problems because of the extra toe (except being teased by the other kitty-cats! ;) )

I think Butterball is a cutie-pie! Give him a hug and a kiss for me! :)

one of my cousins' cats is. I never actually counted, but he has one digit on each that looks like a thumb.

We had a polydactly cat she had 28 toes. Her name was Digit and she was beautiful and very large. She could pick up small balls and throw them. No kidding! I understood that polydactly happens from
in-breeding. She was a stray barn cat we adopted. She was also dumb as a post. (I generally find cats intelligent) and she was quite cross. (Which led to her ummmm untimely departure from this world). She was electrocuted several times from chewing through plugged in electrical cords, lamps, tv, cordless drill.. She had a litter of kittens who were all polydactly's also. Our roomate had a pit bull, named Dozer and he was scared shi*less of Digit. He would walk the perimeter of three rooms to get to the other end where he did not have to croos Digits path.

Enjoy your kitty.......

Cheers

Our cat Caboose has six toes on his front feet. Our vet told us that every so often the extra toenail will become ingrown, so it's important to check his toes regularly.

He is a carbon copy of his Dad. They're both the dumbest cats in the world. Really nice, though. Caboose has trouble climbing fences and will fall if he tries to walk across the top of our fence. That may be because of his toe, I don't know.

Most polydactyl cats come from the cats that Ernest Hemingway bred. I have heard that almost all cats near where he lived in Florida have the extra toe.

Our kittens (ie. the ones who were born here at the house...they're all 2 years old now) all have six toes on their front paws...ie. four "fingers" and double thumbs. They do look like they are wearing mittens. Well, except for Matrix...she walks up on her toes, so she looks like she's wearing high heels.

I suspect that the extra toes make them more successful hunters...I know they've cleaned out the rodent population in our house, and my neighbors tell me that they've seen my cats hunting around their out-buildings, too :D

I'm DYING to have a polydactyl cat! I think they're cool looking, and very special kitties! I'm a lover of all cats, though. I have also heard they came from the Hemingway house.

We do!!! Her name is Misery (since both front legs were broken when she was dumped at our pet store), but I call her Mizzy instead. She is awesome - it's so cute to watch her paw around on her little fan feet. I'll take pics of her tonight when I go home. :)

Butterball & Casper are GORGEOUS TammySue!!! They look like very spoiled rotten kitties! :) :) :)

Polydactyls are awesome. We have a litter of bengal mix polydactyls in our adoption program right now...so pretty. So busy! I've had to restrain my husband from coming to adoption events with me because our apartment is too small for the cats we have, let alone adding another. :)

I used to have a poly, years and years ago...he was all black and his name was Velvet (Velvie for short). Unfortunately he was an indoor/outdoor cat and disappeared one day...we never found him dead on the road or anything, so he maybe got taken in by someone who saw him and thought he was all alone in the world...I hope so, he was a nice kitty and if he didn't live with us anymore, I hope he had another nice family instead of something bad happening to him.

We had a polydactyl. Her name was Misty and she was a short-haired 'blue' (that's the proper term for a grey cat). She developped epilepsy late in life, and one day had a fit that killed her. It definitely seems to be an evolutionary advantage to have the extra toes.
