View Full Version : Reccomendations for hair fork seller sites wanted
druidess73 March 8th, 2003, 06:01 PM i'm not an ebayer, so can anyone reccomend sites for hair forks? i had a hair fork-like, cheapo plastic thing that the dogs recently found and played with beyond repair, but i'd like a few nice hair forks. i'm hair sticks phobic (ok, not really phobic, but i can never get the silly things to work right), but i enjoyed my pseudo hair fork.
also, i took my mom out to eat today (it's our weekly ritual. i go visit--she's about 40 miles away--i take her to run any errands she has. we go out to eat.) the hostess took us to our booth and said "is this ok, and can i have a lock or two of your hair." that's the first real hair compliment i think i've gotten from a stranger. i had my hair braided, so it didn't even look as long as it normally does. whooohooooo
Teacherbear March 8th, 2003, 08:19 PM CONGRATS on the compliment!!!!!!! YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
and for hairfork suggestions . . .
I was at Target tonight and was looking over their "regular" hairtoys (back with the toiletries). As someone said earlier this week (sorry can't remember who - Carolyn??) . . anyway . . . Goody has a new line of hair toys and Target carries them.
I got 2 hair forks. They were $1.99 each!!!! They are quite smooth, too. I'm going to need to soften the edges just a tiny bit. They are lovely though. They are a little larger in width than Graydogwood ones, but they have a similar shape. I suggest you see if you can find some of the Goody pins (maybe Walgreen's will have them)!
Anyway, HTH . . . also, I think I saw one of those Bobby forks or whatever it is called that you said you have . . . would you like for me to get it for you?
druidess73 March 8th, 2003, 09:30 PM thanks for the offer, but i can replace my bobbysticks here..just haven't gotten around to it yet. i'm really interested in some hair forks so i can have something dressier for work.
target hasn't made it here yet, unfortunately. i'll be in savannah on march 31st. i'll have to check to see if they've got a target.
snippet March 8th, 2003, 09:38 PM The waitress wanted a lock of your hair? Was she serious? Wow, I'd freak out if anyone said that.
dancingbarefoot March 8th, 2003, 10:06 PM But Argus Designs has some gorgeous hair forks and sticks!!
Also, on eBay, there's blondiesturn, whose products everyone here seems to love.
I got my absolutely wonderful hairfork from an eBay seller called sewso-sewso (what a confidence-inspiring name, eh?), but right now they don't have any hair toys up for sale. I'll let everyone know next time I see some for sale. :)
Amazon March 9th, 2003, 04:25 AM Good Hair days Hairforks that are not too expensive and really nice. They come in 2 prong, I think 3 prong (?) and 5 prong. I bought a 5 prong for myself at $3.99 and a set of 2 prong and 5 prong with a decorative top for Martine for $6.99.
Eve from blondiesturn posted at the old LHC thanking us for the word of mouth and all, you could ask her if she would sell you as a buy it now.
Good luck

Yepyep - and if you don't do ebay (I don't if I can avoid it), she sells dircetly too. Although I don't think she has a web shop or anything. She custom made my forks after I e-mailed her what I wanted.
Martine March 9th, 2003, 06:46 AM I recently purchased a 4 1/2 inch purpleheart hairfork from climbingbear auctions who sell on eBay, on their own website and who also have a retail gallery. Beautiful workmanship and very reasonably priced. If you don't see what you want either on eBay or their website, I would suggest you email them with what you're looking because I expect they'd be able to make it for you.

Though my new hairfork is lovely my personal preference is for the chunky & sturdy types of hair forks made by Ric Carpenter of Sierra Legacy. I already have a chechen 'anti-gravity hairpin' and just put in an order for a purpleheart and bubinga.

While I don't have anything from Blue Heron Woods they look like wonderful hair forks. I think they also sell on eBay.

Teacherbear March 9th, 2003, 08:50 AM Thanks for the great links, Martine!
I had heard of Dancing Bear, but couldn't find their stuff on ebay.
Also, last night I went through all of my hairtoy bookmarks, and I didn't have one for Blue Heron!
Thanks! ;)
PS I sent you a return PM
AND we've missed you!!! Glad you poked your head in!
druidess73 March 9th, 2003, 10:15 AM The waitress wanted a lock of your hair? Was she serious? Wow, I'd freak out if anyone said that.
i think she meant she wanted hair of that length and phrased it that way to indicate she only wanted some of it, thus leaving me with most of it...more like wishing i could share my hair with her.
KT March 9th, 2003, 12:06 PM If you want something a bit fancy and special, then look out for the limited edition designs at http://www.maidens-treasures.com
For a plainer, more sturdy fork suitable for everyday wear/travelling, Ric the Comb Maker that others have mentioned is a good choice :)
Heidi March 9th, 2003, 12:21 PM You might check out some of the links on the Hair Toy Links thread over on the Hair Products & Reviews thread...some of them are included here.
Happy shopping!
Carolyn March 9th, 2003, 12:29 PM Some cool links here. I've been checking out hair forks all afternoon. I can't decide which one to order yet. They are so pretty.
Martine, good to see a post from you. I've missed your expertise. Hope you were off doing something fun! :D
Druidess, I think that waitress probably meant she would love to have hair like yours. But that comment would have freaked me out too!
druidess73 March 9th, 2003, 03:48 PM hey, i take my compliments where i can get them..that's probably only the 2nd time that someone has out of the blue complimented my hair.
Teacherbear March 9th, 2003, 06:04 PM hey, i take my compliments where i can get them..that's probably only the 2nd time that someone has out of the blue complimented my hair.
And I say ENJOY! :)
Tone of voice is a good indicator of intent, and you heard her! ENjoy the compliment, girl! ;)
BTW, I have a few female students who say, "I want your hair" . . . it is really funny when the student has TOTALLY different color and textured hair than mine! I just grin from the obsurdity of it! hahahaahaha ;)
sheepygrrl March 10th, 2003, 03:20 AM I just wanted to let you all know that I had a really bad experience ordering from Blue heron Woods. I would be cautious about ordering from her site. It took her over 2 months to send me my hairfork which was supposedly on the ready to ship list. I actually had to file a complaint with the FTC to get her to send it. I spent a lot of time writing emails, leaving messages to no avail. So buyer beware with Blue Heron.
