Now that we're all thoroughly confused about chignons, cinnamon buns, buns, etc., I have a new question.

What is a Psyche knot and how is that different than a chignon or bun?

Also, what do you call the type of bun that is made when you roll it over a bun form or a hairdini? That is a completly different look.

Well, I'd never heard of a psyche knot so I had to look this one up. Here's what I found:

The pics are a bit fuzzy and hard to see, but it looks gorgeous. I also found this definition of a psyche knot:

Psyche knot: A loose twist of hair brought from the neck to near the crown, where it is fastened with hairpins; the remainder of the twist is loosely coiled around the first part of the psyche knot.

I haven't quite figured out that psyche knot yet, it looks lovely but I haven't had the time nor patience to research it further.

The hairdini bun was coined giganto-bun by some of us cause it can make a bun almost the size of your head! I think it looks cool, cause it creates really polished buns, and makes it seem like you have a ton of hair.

A psyche knot is the same thing as a Gibson Girl hairstyle -- essentially, it's a bun on the top of your head with a soft poof/pompadour. Most directions I've seen involve sectioning the hair into three peices and forming a bun by poofing & winding those.

I posted some links on the old board a while ago to how to make this style -- search for "Gibson Girl" or "Pysche knot" or "Victorian hair" on there (or, on Google), and you should get them. Also, Madeline's actually made a psyche knot, I think. :)

Cheers,

Let's say I played around with it - just like you did if I remember correctly ;)
I don't find it too hard to get the poof thing happening when I use combs, but then I run out of hair to do a decent knot - pretty sad, flat thing.

I bought some fake hair to enhance it, but didn't get to the point of making a hair piece out of it yet. As soon as I accomplished something worth mentioning, I'll post a pic or two :-)

Psyche knot. I always thought it came from the old "Amor and Psyche" story, and how she wore her hair. I gather it's a loose low knot at the back of your head. Very feminine and flattering, but I've never been able to master it. Then I read somewhere that they psyche knot is located on the top of your head. Ah well... It's from the Victorian era, anyway.

Here's the Amor and Psyche story:
