View Full Version : Hi, I'm new, stupid question to ask...
DarkRapunzel March 7th, 2003, 03:30 PM Hi...I'm new...my name's Nic, I'm 17, my hair is 35" long, normal thickness, dark brown...straight as a stick...
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has problems with chairs.
Yes, you heard right.
I am always getting my hair stuck in lawn chairs, school desks, cafeteria chairs, the works...I even got it tangled in my flute!
I like leaving my hair down, but how can I keep it under control?
Thanks for your help.
Bye.

dancingbarefoot March 7th, 2003, 03:58 PM Welcome! :) Nice to have another new "face" around here!
So... if you want to leave it down, I'm not sure what you can do other than just be super-aware of your hair. Since you know it tends to get tangled in chairs, be careful when you sit down and arrange your hair behind your back, for example, where it won't tangle as much. Knowing is half the battle, no? ;)
Good luck!

Welcome to the boards, DarkRapunzel!!! :) and I TOTALLY love your flute playing avatar!!!!! :)
YES, I use to have problems with chairs. I say USE to because I have since learned to put my hair up when I'm sitting in "dangerous chairs" . Of course, sometimes I don't KNOW it is a dangerous hair, until I let out a yelp and lose several hairs (thus making a scene and drawing undue attention to myself! ) hahahaahahaha ;)
I carry a clip around with me all the time (it use to be a jaw clip, but now it is a Ficcare). If my hair got caught in a chair, then I'd whip it up out of danger!
Now, I generally keep my hair up, so it kind of eliminates the problem. BUT, when I do leave it down, I STILL have that clip on my purse, and if I have a problem, then I whip my hair up out of the way (is that a run on sentence, or WHAT?! hahaha)
Anyway, it is nice to meet you! Welcome to the community! ;)
Carolyn March 7th, 2003, 04:14 PM Hi Nic! just wanted to say Hi and Welcome. Teacherbear and Dancingbarefoot said it all for protecting your hair from those chair hair hazards. Be aware and learn how to keep your hair out of danger. By the way, your hair sounds lovely.
DarkRapunzel March 7th, 2003, 04:39 PM You guys are super!

Equestrian March 7th, 2003, 05:06 PM Welcome DarkRapunzel!
I agree with those who posted above. Maybe you could get in the habit of gathering your hair and placing it over your shoulder, in front of you before sitting, etc. to help keep it "in your view" and maybe you'll slowly learn to be a little more aware of it.
I, like TBear, carry hair-tools to put my hair up at a moments notice (usually a scrunchie). I often have my hair up much of the time, but I used to nearly ALWAYS have my hair down, and dealt with situations you mentioned by keeping my hair pulled around in front of me.
Axium March 7th, 2003, 05:38 PM Chairs, car doors, water heaters, people passing by, the AIR... you name it! Which contributes to my hair being contained most of the time! Here's a trick you can do when you don't mind looking conspicuous - Get yourself a satin or silk pillowcase and slip it over the chairback. It totally works! Keep us posted.
gabiwags March 7th, 2003, 05:57 PM Welcome DRPunzie - the others will help you with the chair... ;) ...gabi

That's a great tip from Axium!
Welcome to the boards! I am sure you will learn all sorts of little tips here. It seems that when things happen, like tangles in chairs and flutes, you learn something from it... like when you keep a clip handy to whip your hair up into a quick bun... things like that. That is pretty much my solution to tricky situations. I wrap up my hair for the moment, then let it back down when it's "safe" to do so.
Enjoy the boards!
Kati75 March 7th, 2003, 11:43 PM Hi Nic, welcome here! :D
March 8th, 2003, 01:26 AM Welcome Nic :)
Pixna March 8th, 2003, 02:19 AM Hi DarkRapunzel -- welcome!!! :D
zoya_ March 8th, 2003, 03:03 AM Welcome - can't help you, sorry, my hair is not long enough yet. Glad you joined us!
DweamGoiL March 10th, 2003, 04:53 AM I used to wear my hair down all the time until things like that started happening. At school, my hair would get caught on the hinges of the chairs, on the subway, the hair would get caught in between the seats or if someone sat behind me, a lot of the times, the would catch my hair and it would tug...so I started wearing it up more. However, if you still want to leave it down all the time, then walking around with hairtoys to put it up when needed is your best solution.
Good luck!
Tresses March 10th, 2003, 05:01 AM Welcome Nic! I think your best bet if you want to continue to wear your hair down is to follow the advise to pull it forward over your shoulder when you sit down. Now might be a good time to start considering different options, though. Perhaps a ponytail or braid to protect your hair? 35 inches sounds impressive! Take good care of it!
Again, welcome! :DD
Kao March 10th, 2003, 05:18 AM You might be able to keep your hair out of your flute, when you're playing, and still wear it down, if you put the top half up? Either just pull it back, or braid it, or put it in a small bun... You'd still get some of your length down, but the front bits will have a more difficult time going "Haha! It's SNARL TIME!" ;)
I usually end up draping my hair over my shoulder, to keep it out of the way, though. I even do that when I braid it -- it's long enough that if I don't, when doing something like... driving... and I'm leaning back on it... "Oh, I need to change lanes. I... can't move my head to look. Shoot."
jocosejolie March 10th, 2003, 05:34 AM Just wanted to say welcome. Welcome Nic.

Hollie March 10th, 2003, 05:47 AM Hi Nic!!! Welcome!! :D
Arcticpixie March 10th, 2003, 08:21 AM Hi Nic! My solution is to always carry around some sort of hairtoy and an aresenal of quick simple updo's. My hair is hovering at BS, but it still get's stuck in things if I don't watch out.
Glad to see you here!
RedButterfly March 11th, 2003, 03:41 PM Welcome to LHC, Dark Rapunzel!
You'll love it here. :D
