View Full Version : Q for those using the Morrocco Method
Nitsa March 6th, 2003, 04:03 AM I have been looking over their web site again and I have a few questions.
First off I would like to know who on these boards uses the Morrocco Method and what your opinion is of their products.
I am also curious about conditioners. I don't seem to see any traditional type conditioner just the spray in mist.
Lastly I am wondering if shampoos with clay in them would be hard to rinse out and would they leave a dulling residue.
Thanks for your time :)
Pixna March 6th, 2003, 04:20 AM Hi Nitsa! I'm a regular MM user these days, and I love the line! The clay based "shampoo" is not difficult at all to rinse out and it doesn't leave any residue at all. It's wonderful and amazing to feel the real hair not coated with anything -- and it's an eye-opener to discover that other "natural" products indeed leave a residue (which I didn't believe until I did my own comparison).
The conditioners are amazing. They don't seem like they would work because there doesn't appear to be much to them -- but they DO!! I've found that it's important to use a sufficient amount (I was being stingy with mine because I didn't want to use them up -- silly me!). They will NOT leave your hair greasy or flat, but they WILL help detangle and condition, with no (I mean absolutely NO) residue or coating of the hair. I also use the Euro oil every day on my ends and I love that as well. I highly recommend the products, though I realize they may not be right for everyone. Also, if you order them, bear in mind that they are unlike any other mainstream "natural" product (very, very minimal foaming) and, depending on what you've been using, your hair may need several weeks to "detox."
Feel free to ask any other questions. I love talking about MM! :D
sheepygrrl March 6th, 2003, 04:39 AM Hey Nitsa,
I'm only on day two of using just MM products but I like them quite a bit so far. They are a lot less drying than the AO products I was using. I agree with Pixna that you need to use the spray on conditioners liberaly in order to provide the best slip for detangling and over all conditioning. I carry around which ever conditioner I'm using that day and spray my hair as needed.
I'm also finding the shampoos work well on my face and the Euro Oil is a wonder on breakouts and scars, smells good too!
My hair is of moderate thickness and fairly straight and I haven't had any problems with this method. The only thing I haven't liked is the smell of the Fire & Air shampoos, I'm thinking I might just alternate between the Earth & Sea as I love the smell of those two. I've also started doing some evening brushing as suggested and scalp massages, it's relaxing and hasn't been damaging to my hair. Not sure it's doing anything yet but I think it's too soon to tell.
The one positive change I have noticed is that my hair seems smoother and when I run my fingers through it it very rarely catches or tangles. That is a good thing, I was also getting these results when I wasn't using traditional conditioner just a spray on conditioner. I think my hair prefers the spray on conditioners. Also the night before I started using MM I did an overnight Euro Oil treatment and I think it helped speed the adjustment.
I also shampoo daily so my routine is a quite a bit different from Pixna's, I'm still in the "not-long" category of 18.5"s at the moment.
Hope that helps some.
:)

Nitsa March 6th, 2003, 05:02 AM Pixna, do you use all four of their shampoos?
I don't want to spend a bundle trying something that I may not like in the end. I am not sure if I would be best to just get the 2oz trial size of each shampoo or just pick a couple of the full size bottles to try.
I liked that they suggest using them for a body wash too. I am alway trying to cut down on products and simplify my routine.
I also was looking at their eye liner. Sounds intresting.
I use Aubrey or Phyto shampoos right now and only Aubrey conditioners so I don't think my hair will need much of a detox time.
Karen March 6th, 2003, 05:33 AM Nitsa,
I use the MM products and discussed them here yesterday:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/viewtopic.php?t=709&highlight=
The only thing I would add is that I think the smell of all of it is horrible, and I love earthy/natural smells. Like makes me want to vomit. The Euro Oil has neem oil in it, and it totally reeks like neem to me (I don't know if you've smelled neem before, but it smells weird kind of onion/garlic.) That takes some getting used to.
Regarding your question on the trial size vs. full sized, do they still have the pick 3 special, where you get the 3 full-sized shampoos for a lessor price? That was a good deal.
If you have oily scalp, I do recommend the earth shampoo. It smells good, pepperminty. I don't use it because I don't have an oily scalp.
HTH some!
Cowgal March 6th, 2003, 06:00 AM Hello Nitsa,
I use all 4 of the shampoos and the 3 conditioners too. I absolutely love what they do to my hair. It is soooooo shiny, soft and tangle free.
I really enjoy the scents- I love the earthy smell to them. But bear in mind, that AO made me gag. It was way too sweet smelling. If you like the smell of dirt and wet trees... you'll like MM. :)
I've been using the conditioners for 3 days now. I was skeptical, that's why I didn't order them when I ordered my shampoos over a month ago. But I am glad I decided to give them a try. They are really great and lightweight too.
Karen- I can't smell the neem in my Euro oil. You must have lucked out and got a particularly strong one! LOL! ;) And yes, I know it smells like death, because I have a bottle of pure neem oil <cringe>
Everything I've tried MM, I've liked, so I personally recommend them. He told me in an email today that their shelf life is 7 years if you keep them out of direct sunlight and extreme heat..! I will never know, as I am sure they won't get to sit around unused all that time!
I ordered the trial size shampoos first- I think that would be the best way to go. As they are quite expensive... it's a cheaper way to try them out. PLUS... the trial sizes last a LONG time! I've been using them over a month and hardly put a "dent" in them!
Cowgal March 6th, 2003, 06:04 AM Oh yeah, forgot to add- they are VERY easy to rinse out. That is no problem at all.
And they are great on skin. I've started using MM instead of glycerine soaps and castille soaps. They're so gentle and softening.
Dulci March 6th, 2003, 06:15 AM I have a question too. Well, more than one. :)
So, you're in the shower, you shampoo twice as directed, and rinse with cool water.
:?: Are you able to detangle in the shower after rinsing? Can you get a comb all the way through your just washed hair?
:?: Then what, you get out of the shower and spritz on those mists while your hair is wet or do you wait till it is dry? Do you comb it in or just spritz?
:?: Same for the oil, apply when wet or dry? Comb or smooth in?
That is my biggest hangup I guess, the only time I am ever able to comb my hair from root to ends is in the shower whilst loaded with conditioner. I don't even attempt combing like that when it is dry. I think I would miss it terribly if I didn't have my occasional fantasy moment when I am able to comb my hair all the way out.
Karen March 6th, 2003, 06:24 AM I'll answer you Dulci, since my hair is probably the closest in curl-factor to yours (besides Pixna, who's still in denial about her inner curlines :suspect: ) Although, I'd be interested in the others' answers to perhaps pinpoint part of my problem.
Are you able to detangle in the shower after rinsing?
i detangle before the final rinse, using the "Water Assisted Detangling Method"
Can you get a comb all the way through your just washed hair?
I cannot
Then what, you get out of the shower and spritz on those mists while your hair is wet or do you wait till it is dry? Do you comb it in or just spritz?
i spritz when wet and comb it in. same with the oil.
Nitsa March 6th, 2003, 06:31 AM Ok, I have another question.
Are you also using henna with the MM? Or perhaps dye or natural virgin hair.
Palonia March 6th, 2003, 06:36 AM Nitsa: I also love the MM products, and have been using them for a bit over two months. My hair has become significantly more moisturized over this time period, and has also increased in shine.
Dulci: I can comb out my hair completely in the shower, by just using a acv rinse and combing with that still in (not rinsing at all until I am done combing). I get as much detangling that way as I did with a conditioner. Keep in mind that I only use the shampoo on my scalp and the length just gets that which is being rinsed away so there are some natural oils remaining on there (I think this, mixed with the acv is what is giving me so much conditioning action). I always re-oil after I get out of the shower as well, and sometimes after misting between washes. This system has worked wonderfully for me, and my hair is significantly softer and less dry than before I began the MM.

Cowgal March 6th, 2003, 01:20 PM :?: Are you able to detangle in the shower after rinsing? Can you get a comb all the way through your just washed hair?
I wash my hair upside down (sounds funny... ah hem) meaning... under the faucet in the tub- I am too much of a wimp to take a cold shower in winter and I won't use hot water on my hair. Maybe it would be easier to detangle if I was standing upright, but I don't even try it if I've washed under the faucet. I don't think it would be easy. The MM products don't give me "slip" when wet, but it is very easy to detangle once dry.
:?: Then what, you get out of the shower and spritz on those mists while your hair is wet or do you wait till it is dry? Do you comb it in or just spritz?
I just let my hair dry over night and in the morning, when my hair is either damp or dry I spritz it with the conditioners.
:?: Same for the oil, apply when wet or dry? Comb or smooth in?
I think this would be like any other oils. No one oils the same here..! ;) Whatever your preference- you could use a small amount for daily use or alot for once a week oil treatments. You are suppose to use the oil on your scalp too.
That is my biggest hangup I guess, the only time I am ever able to comb my hair from root to ends is in the shower whilst loaded with conditioner. I don't think this would be possible with the MM. :( It would be possible (I bet, it is for me atleast) if you used marshmallow herb after the MM shampoo. It is VERY compatable with MM. And makes combing out easy. I was using the shikakai/ marshmallow/ amla herb mix prior to getting the MM conditioners. I still like that mix and will go back to it, but wanted to see how the MM conditioners worked alone.
gabiwags March 6th, 2003, 01:21 PM I use it too :D
Bear in mind that my hairs still short. I don't try to detangle in the shower, I wait until I've wrapped a towel around it for a minute or so, when I take it off the tangles just sort of come apart. I DO use a vinegar w. EO's rinse.
Karen - the first month I used it I had that heavy slighty lumpy feeling to my hair too but after I got past that I was able to occasionally use other products (even cones) and switch right back without problems...I'd keep at it for awhile, hope it works for ya...g
Cowgal March 6th, 2003, 01:24 PM Ok, I have another question.
Are you also using henna with the MM? Or perhaps dye or natural virgin hair.
Nitsa,
I've used henna a couple of times- my hair responds well to the MM. I haven't used henna while using the MM though. I would think they'd be highly compatable though, since Mr. Morrocco recommends (and even sells now) henna on his website.
Ooo.. off topic, horses are running around like maniacs outside! "It's grain time!"
Dulci March 6th, 2003, 08:14 PM Nitsa thanks for letting me tag on to your post. :)
Everyone thanks for describing your experiences, it sounds so...exotic!
Palonia you know I did detangle using only ACV rinse 3 times, no one was more surprised than I was that it works! I even noticed that the hairwad clogging the shower drain was significantly smaller than when I detangle like normal. The main drawback was that I ran out the hot water all 3 times, and we even have a jumbo hotwater heater installed here. It was simply taking me too long. :(
I am so intrigued with this line, but I'm not sure why I am even looking around, my scalp and hair is happy with my routine now. Maybe I'm just restless? I want to try something new and exciting too! ::pout::
Pixna March 7th, 2003, 02:28 AM Pixna, do you use all four of their shampoos?

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, Nitsa. Life got in the way of my fun! ;)
Yes, I do use (and rotate) all four of their shampoos. I do see the value in this -- they all impart a slightly different quality and benefit to the hair and scalp. If you don't want to spend a bundle to try them, then go for their winter special of the trial/travel sizes. This way you can try all four at a very reasonable price. They also now have a travel size of the Euro oil, but I think you have to get full sizes of the conditioner sprays. I don't see that as a problem, though, as I think the conditioners are fabulous.
The eyeliner does sound intriguing (even to me, although I don't wear makeup) and exotic. It would look beautiful with your hair color.
Even though I used AO exclusively prior to starting on the MM, my hair did need a little bit of detox time. I actually went back to AO once after starting with the MM, and I can assure you there was an enormous difference. My hair HATED the AO after the MM. I had to do another wash the very next day (and I normaly go 3-5 days between washes!) to get my hair back to looking and feeling good. I LOVE the MM products!! :D
Cowgal March 7th, 2003, 02:47 AM LOL Pixna!
My hair was absolutely appalled that I used AO once I started using the MM. I thought that was surprising! I tried using the GPB as a deep treatment and then shampooing it out with MM. The results were sticky clumpy greasy looking hair! Ick! So the next day I used MM again and followed with the shikakai/amla/marshmallow and all was well again.
Gabi mentioned that after she had been on MM for a while her hair started excepting other products- even 'cones! I think that is interesting. I'll keep testing myself. Hah. ;)
Pixna March 7th, 2003, 03:19 AM You are a daring and brave woman, Valerie! :D My hair said, "NO, NO, NO!" and I listened. I'm afraid if I try anything even remotely different again my hair will pitch a trantrum. We're finally back on speaking terms, so I'm hesitant to upset it again! :DD
MM FOREVER!!!
Signed,
Pixna's Hair
Elle March 7th, 2003, 07:11 AM I've been keeping an eye on those of you who are trying the MM products. It sounds like another interesting concept.
After reading this thread, I am reminded once again that what works great for one won't necessarily work great for another. I should already know this. I have a product graveyard full of bottles that have worked wonderfully for others. I only wish there was a surefire way of knowing what's going to work for my hair... :(
