Hello Fine Folks!

I've been lurking at various hairboards for a while now, but I'm so shy I never could get up the nerve to post. LHC is my fav board hands down as everyone here seems so friendly and I just couldn't stay quiet any longer! I wanted to thank everyone here for sharing such wonderful information :D

I've had long hair nearly all of my life, but I have had a love/hate relationship with it as it's just so difficult and unlike any other hair I've ever seen on another human. It looks pretty normal until you look closely and you see that nearly every superfine hair has it's own unique texture; everything from 1b (which is most prevalant) to 4b. My hair has mystified many a stylist! It's hard to care for all of those textures, especially since it's microfiber fine, so I kept my hair spiral permed for about a decade. I had to stop when my nearly tailbone length hair took every perm rod in the salon! I was left with the choice of more length or perms... this was about when I found the old LHL and I picked length! I've grown out nearly all of the perm (just about 1" to go!) and I'm finding my natural texture to be MUCH easier to care for with all the info I've learned from everyone here :D CO washes and CWC have transformed my straw hair into silk. I really owe y'all!

Sorry to babble on, but I've held all this in too long I guess, LOL! I look forward to getting to know everyone and I hope someday to be able to help others as everyone here has helped me.

Wow- you've been lurking a long time! Your hair sounds amazing- does it grow fast?! Sounds like it. Hope something I said in the past helped you with your journey. :)

I like LHC the best too. I lurk at the other boards mostly, and only post somewhere else once in a blue moon.

Take care!

Howdy Valerie :)

Wow- you've been lurking a long time!

Gosh... I'd be embarrassed to say just how long! Too long really. It took me at least a year after I first found LHL to fully commit to really give my hair the care and attention it needed. I was too embarrassed to post until then as my hair was in a nasty state

Your hair sounds amazing- does it grow fast?! Sounds like it.

Thanks! :D Your hair is beautiful! The color is especially pretty and the shine is outta this world 8) My hair does grow like a weed, which is a dang good thing considering what I put it through in the past. It's a testament to my hair's will to live that I have any left at all ;)

Hope something I said in the past helped you with your journey. :)

Oh definitely! You've inspired me to look for some more natural approaches to haircare to experiment with that I never would have thought of on my own. I especially want to try the marshmallow root rinse.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!
Queenie

PS... Your horses are beautiful! I'm a horseperson myself, although I've been horseless for a long while due to some health issues. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many equestriennes on this board :)

Thanks everyone for such a warm welcome! This has to be the friendliest board I've ever read on the 'net... everyone here is great :) I'd write a proper reply to each of you, but this thread would be a mile long and I don't want to hog up all the bandwidth in one swoop. Each and every one of you has the most gorgeous hair and I could run on forever about it, but I'll spare you ;) Y'all are truly an inspiration! And while I have the chance to say... thank you Stephanie for setting up and maintaining these boards for us 8)

I'm hoping to have some pictures of my hair up to share soon... as soon as I can get my SO to help me take some. Right now he's busy shoveling us out of 28" of snow

Thanks again ladies! :)

QueenHarpy! It sounds as though we may have been separated at birth.... your hair sounds *exactly* like mine!!! Last week, I was at the salon getting a vegetable rinse, when the girl blow drying my hair (I know...crime! ...but, she was insistent ~ honestly sincerely!), commented on how it was really rare to see hair like mine. LOL! It does fascinate me though...especially at red stop lights...I don't know how many times I've been so immersed in looking at it, only to have the car behind me honking his horn to let me know the light has changed to green! LOL ~ Anyway, WELCOME to the LHC ~ I look forward to reading your posts!!!

Awww! Thanks for the support! :) Don't worry about bandwidth - it's diskspace that it takes up and we've got plenty. LOL ;)

Hi Madigan :)

Oh wow, it's nice to find someone else with hair like mine! :D Makes me feel a bit less... erm, freakish, LOL ;)

You know, I didn't even know just what it was that made my hair difficult to deal with until the first stylist that touched my hair as a kid pointed out my different textures. My hair was so thick back then (I lost about half of it's volume taking Accutane as a teen) that I'd never noticed  Now every hairdresser I've seen says something about it, usually offensive, sad to say. Everything from "you have black girl's hair at the roots, are you mixed?" (like hair has a race ) to "your ancestors must have owned slaves" (WTF?? GRRR!). Not to mention all that abuse I got from my classmates in middle school when I found out that when my hair is cut short it turns into a full on afro. Granted, some may just be curious, but still... I find many of the things said incredibly racially insensitive

I'm glad to hear that you find your hair fascinating, too. It really is! When I do my split end searches I'm endlessly amused at the different hairs I find... everything from copper red wirey strands to incredibly thin zig zags and everything between. I'd love love love to see a pic of your hair :) I hope to have some pics up myself soon.

Hope your vegetable rinse turned out well!
