I'd like to try some scalp message with a few oils: cedarwood, rosemary, jojoba, lavender. I've found them under aromatherpy, is this the same as the essential oil?

welcome to LHC cuban curls! :D

That's a really good question, I'm not sure if they are the same. :? The only thing I do know is NOT to use fragrance oils. Hopefully someone will come along that knows the difference.

I think 'aromatherapy oils' is just more general name that could be used for some mixes that include essential oils as well as carrier oils.
Essential oils are usually the extracts of the plant, not mixed with anything(hopefully!), so I would stick with them.
This is just my opinion and I could be wrong.

I have purchased Jojoba Oil, hand and nail treatment and bath salts from Aromaland.com. They have a full line of body care products, including essential oils. You can browse the site, but when you actually are ready to view prices, you have to click on "store" or "buy", I forget. That takes you to www.buyaromatherapy.com. They list about a hundred essential oils, in other words, scented oils in concentrated form. If you see something there you might like, I would give them my recommendation. I've found their products to be superior quality, along with their service.

Welcome to the group!

Why not use fragrance oils? I know they don't have the herbal qualities that EOs would have, but if you wanted to scent your jojoba oil with a fragrance oil, would that be okay?

sure you can use fragrance oils snippet, when you just want to scent your oils. But EOs are therapeutic, let me see if I can find a quote somewhere... ok here's one:

However, synthetic fragrance oils are not effective therapeutically because even though they are copies of essential oils, these synthetic versions have different structures and, the body does not absorb them like natural molecules.

Cuban Curls asked about scalp massaging, I figured she was wanting her hair to grow faster, not just smell good. ;)

Welcome, cuban curls! Dulci is right, aromatherapy or fragrance oils don't have the therapeutic effects of pure essential oils, mostly because aromatherapy oils are so diluted. You'd get better results mixing up essential oils with a carrier oil like jojoba or almond oil. :)
