View Full Version : How fast does your hair grow

How fast does your hair grow? Does it vary growth rates throughout the year? If it has changed growth rates over the years, do you know why? Have you changed your routine and seen a change in growth rate?

My hair tends to change drastically depending on the season. In the winter my hair grows less than half an inch per month and in the summer I get between 3/4 and 1 inch. As far as I can tell, vitamins don't make my hair grow faster, but it does grow better, so I'll keep taking them :D

Mine grows about 1/2 inch a month. Though I've only measure this monthly since February. I don't know yet if it grows faster in the summer, but I can only hope so!

I've said it before and I'll say it again.....I have the SLOWEST GROWING HAIR ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET!!!!!!! I'm lucky if I get 1/4" a month. :(

Okay.......I picked 1/2" and clicked "submit" just as I read that last option.....it changes during the year. Because right now I'm getting about 1/2" a month, but my hair "normally" only grows 1/4" a month. http://e4u.consoleradar.com/crazy/1261.gif

I voted 3/4, because lately and in the past it's grown that much per month, but I just came out of a 1/2 per month period, I think it depends on the season for me. I do notice it's faster growth when I take my vitamins on a regular basis. So, somewhere between 3/4 and a half I think.

I chose 3/4" per month... but it's actually somewhere between 1/2' and 3/4" per month. I have always felt very blessed by speedy growth... but, it could be all of those hair vitamins. ;)

Don't cry MissKim. I swear I'm disgusted with myself. I take these choke down these darn vitamins and the only hair that's growing is on my a&*!!! (okay, I'm exaggerating).

I found a post from last August that had my hair at 21 inches. Currently, it's right at 30". I guess I'm getting more than the typical half inch per month.

It was about 1/4 of an inch per month and then I was on biotin and I surged up to 1 inch per month but now I'm out of biotin so we'll see.

My hair used to grow really quickly...sometimes as much as an inch a month depending on the season of the year. But then I got pregnant and it's never been the same! I've been either pregnant or breastfeeding (or both) for almost 3 years now and I can barely get 1/4" a month. I'm going to try some breastfeeding-safe vitamins when this baby is born that might help with the hair growth and see what happens.

I voted for 3/4, but it's really more like 5/8. It varies between 1/2 and 3/4, dpending on whether I round up or down. And when I figured out my long term growth rate, I think it came out to somewhere around 5/8 a month.

I wish 1/4 or less was an option... on a good month, I get a quarter of an inch. It's one of the reasons I will not experiment with adorable short hair cuts... people always say "It'll grow back." No. It won't.

But my fellow slow-growers can take heart... about 14 years after I started growing it out (at slightly below shoulderlength, with one unasked for three-inch cut in there), I'm thisclose to classic length! Woo hoo!

1" per month for me!

Igor
September 20th, 2003, 04:15 AM
Just a little more than ½” per month. Its 3mm per week, which equals circa 0,52 inches per month. Not much of a difference, but its circa 6,2 inches per year

Ever since I've been measuring, I've been getting i" per month. Sure didn't seem like that when my hair stayed at waist length for 5 years, though.

MoonChild
September 23rd, 2003, 01:40 AM
I get 1/2 - 1 per mo.
Usually it is between 0,5 and 0,7 but
then at summertimes my hair is know to have
one inch growing rate in summer-time.
Now that I´m not in a very good position
with my life I would not be surprised if it was even less than
0,5 inches.
So I voted for the last one.

I'm going to say my hair grows somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2

Mine grows about 1/2 inch a month but not sure if it will slow down during the winter as I have never bothered to measure the growth rate before I joined this board.

I usually get about 1/2" per month. Some months I'll get .75" and some months I'll only get .25". Isn't it strange how it varies from month to month and person to person?

I'm officially jealous of everyone who's hair grows 1'' per month!!!! I want that fast growing hair too!!

I don't know yet what's my growth rate, I have only started to measure my hair last month but i sure am curious. Ma (ex) hairdresser always commented on how fast my hair grows whenever I came to her to have my hair trimmed (and then she chopped all off-that's why the ex part). We'll see!

My hair grows so fast...I can practically look in the mirror and watch it grow. My dad's does the same thing. I chose 1".

My hair growth varies so much I can't even do an average. Last summer it was growing 3/4"-1" per month and I was throwing confetti:waltz: . From January 1st of the year until today 3/15 it has grown 1" waahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! :brickwall

March 16th, 2004, 04:15 PM
I would say historically, my hair grew .5" or less each month (it was a bit hard to tell with curls though).

I've only been measuring since Jan 2004, but it's grown between 3/4" and 1" per month since then... of course I don't think I can build any valid statistics from only 48 days of growth!

On average, ½" a month, no matter what season

The only time it changes is within a month after I trim by the MM chart for length, at which point I get at least ¼" more than usual- including what I trimmed

Most months it grows a half inch. sometimes only 1/4". I think I get 5 to 5 1/2" a year. I am so envious of those who get more than that. THe hair on my legs seems to grow a half inch a week. Geesh.

An inch to an inch and a half per month, pretty good!! My hair has grown about 10 inches since last May.

It seems to depend on vit. I take and the cold rinses I do every time I wash my hair.

Verrry slowly= about 1/4" per months. Some months is faster, though. That is also why, I think long and hard before cutting a significant amount off. It takes so darn long to grow back!

½ inch per month, sometimes maybe a bit more than that, but usually ½ inch.

nicolezoie
March 22nd, 2005, 07:42 AM
My rate varies. Some months I will get over an inch, others I'll get less than half an inch. My hair grows about 9" a year, so it averages out to 3/4" a month, but it's never consistent.

SunCat

I voted 1" or more.

My hair has always grown very fast, I had never measured my hair until I joined LHC so I didn't know how fast it was growing. I noticed today when I washed my hair it was feeling longer so I measured it and it was 31" so that is 1" already this month

My hair grows about 1" a month or more throughout the year, but in the summer my hair has been known to grow 2 1/2" in a month! We'll see, this is the first time I have measured consistently. I'm pretty excited that it grows so fast.

I've been keeping track for just a little over three years now. Or is it four years? :ponder: Yes, four years. Wow.

Anyway, my hair grows 5 inches a year, a steady 1/2 inch every month, except for two months in late summer when it just...stops growing LOL.

Sometimes 1/2" a month, sometimes 3/4" a month. It changes.

March 22nd, 2005, 09:10 AM
It's been growing about 0.6-0.7" per month, but seems like lately it's starting to grow faster - closer to 1 inch!

KinkyRoots
March 22nd, 2005, 10:02 AM
I've only been measuring since January but so far its been 1 inch a month :rockerdud

It has always grown quite quickly, I noticed because hair colour needs retouching fequently but I think the reason I'm gaining length is due to how much better I treat my hair since finding NC.com and the LHC :cloud9:

Last year I got 7,5 inches so in average it would be 0,625 inches per month
It changes a bit during the year

It pretty much changes throughout the year, but my average is at 2 cm now, a month.

My hair growth rates change a bit over the months, but the average rate (so far since I just started charting in November) is .75 inches. That doesn't mean it's the most common rate, but just the totals averaged. My most common rate is good ol' .5. :)

My hair growth ranges from warm seasons being about 3/4 to 1 inch growth & cold seasons being about 1/2 growth. But if I remember to make sure I take my vitamins during the cold seasons, I have been able to achieve 3/4 to 1 inch growth.

Probably around 3/4" to 1" a month. It grows faaaaast. I used to get the 'typical male no.2 shaved sides and cut sort on top' doo and had to get a haircut every 3 weeks before it would look sillly. $$$$ This is on major reason I am growing it out.

I voted 1/2" per month... but actually, when I use to measure my hair back in 2004, it would grow 1/4" one month and 3/4" the next month and alternate that way each month. So basically, it would add up to 1" every 2 months. :dizzy:

About half an inch per month... Sometimes I get an inch, but not often... :(

I have measured only since last November, but it seems that my hair grows in average just a bit over 1 cm or 0.5 in in month. Once I've recorded whole inch growth in one month, and during winter there was one month that I didn't record any growth. I guess my growth rate is pretty average...but it feels slow!

Joliebaby
July 28th, 2005, 02:27 AM
I voted 3/4", but sometimes when I've been on heavy medication I only got a bit over 6" a year, but it wasn't spread equally over the 12 months, there were a couple of months when I got something like 0,2 inches at most.. So obviously there were months when I had way more than 1/2".
Generally my hair has always grown fast, 3/4 - 1" a month.
Right now I'm not taking any nasty drugs, I'm trying to eat healthy, get more protein and vitamins, so I'm hoping for 9" growth this year.

I voted 1 inch per month.

I have been measuring for about 3 months now. I am crossing my fingers it keeps it up all year round. I could handle 12 inches a year of growth!!!! I also take vitamins and do cold rinses.

I had some mismeasured months in the beginning, but for the last several months in a row, I have half an inch per month. I can live with that.
