View Full Version : eBay frustration!
JennaPea March 4th, 2003, 04:00 AM I won an auction on the 19th. I requested a total from the seller and the next day, received an e-mail asking for my zip so they could send me a total. No response from the seller for days, so I sent another request. I received another e-mail from seller on the 25th, saying they had had some "serious problems" over the last weeks, and they would send me a total when they got home from work. Nothing
Here it is the 4th and I have gotten no other response from the seller, even though I have sent more requests.
There was one other person who also won two auctions from this person, who apparently didn't get any response either, as he left negative feedback about it.
This person continues to run his auctions, and has gotten feedback of praise on the transaction.
Being kind of new to eBaying, I'm not sure what to do at this point.
Do I just leave negative feedback, report him to someone, or just give up?
Dang it!!!! I really wanted my Butter Churn!!! :x :x :x
lisa March 4th, 2003, 04:34 AM For me personally, I would not leave negative feedback~ Sometimes things just come up in peoples lives and ebay may not come to the top of the list. I'm very careful on leaving negatives.
So, while agree the seller should at least tell you that he/she just doesnt have the time/etc to complete this transaction, then they should tell you upfront so you can start looking for another butter churn!!
Look on the bright side~ they didnt actually take your money, then not send the item, which has happened to me, and sucks royally~ especially when you cant even leave negative feedback because they got suspended...
So, my advise would be to just email a nice letter (nice gets you much further) just ask if they would still like to complete the transaction, give a date you would be willing to wait for an answer/or total. Just let them know that you understand that things come up, but you would really like to complete the transaction, if possible~ if you dont get an answer & total by the date you requested they respond by, I would just move on & be thankful your money is still safe in your hands and start looking ;)
If the seller has had positive feedback, until only recently, there is a good chance that he or she is being truthful in having had something serious come up, as they said. I understand your frustration~I hope you will get it worked out :)
Crossing my fingers for you! Good luck :D
JennaPea March 4th, 2003, 05:13 AM Okay, I feel like a real jerk! The guy just e-mailed me and told me the reason he was backed up was because his wife had their baby pre-maturely, and they have been at the hospital for a while. :(
He's packing up the Butter churn as we speak.
So am I an a** or what!
Hollie March 4th, 2003, 05:16 AM Awwwwwwww....no, you're not an @ss!! You waited, and you asked for advice before you did/said anything. See?? It worked out! :D
JennaPea March 4th, 2003, 05:21 AM Thank you Hollie, for telling me I'm not an a**. ;)
I really try NOT to be one.
lisa March 4th, 2003, 07:18 AM LOL!! Awwwww...
Dont feel bad, it happens to us all! myself included (ahem...maybe more than once ;) )
snippet March 4th, 2003, 07:53 AM I hope he really does send it this time. My rule of thumb is to try and work with the seller before I resort to reporting.
What I've done is try emails until I feel like submitting a negative report. Instead of actually writing a neg report, I send one last email stating that if they don't take action by a certain date then I'm submitting the negative report.
Thankfully I've only done this twice. Works like a charm.

I think you're being way too hard on yourself. Expecting a seller to complete a transaction is perfectly reasonable, and you had no way of knowing what was going on in this guy's personal life. He certainly has a legitimate excuse for the late response, but none of that is your fault! You are most definitely not a jerk or an *ss.

LisaJaney March 4th, 2003, 10:52 AM You're not an arse. I was gonna reply (but you got your answer faster than I could reply) that sometimes things come up and eBay isn't on the priority list for a bit. Just like Lisa said (Lisas are so smart, huh! Well, they stick together, at least!!!) Once, I won an auction - cannot remember what it was at this point - and I never got the thing. Didn't pay for it, which was nice, but never got an answer at ALL from the seller. Then, a total stranger emails me and says, "I notice YOU won something from "sellerX" about the same day *I* won something from them. Did YOU hear from them?" And I told this stranger, "You know, it's weird; I've had NO response. Are we supposed to leave bad feedback?" because I was just about to do that. This stranger (bless them; they were so levelheaded and GOOD) said that they once had left bad feedback for a noncommunicitave seller and regretted it. It seems that the seller just dropped off the face of the earth and after repeated attempts, this stranger left bad feedback. Weeks go by, then finally word comes from the seller. They had been in an auto wreck and were in the hospital, clinging to life, for a number of weeks. This stranger checked out the story, and yes it was in the papers for this seller's area. Names, dates, etc, all checked out. Felt like a HEEL.
I am with the ones (even my stranger from eBay) who say that they don't leave bad feedback except in extreme circumstances. A seller/buyer would basically have to tell me to drop dead and/or screw off in order for me to leave neg feedback.
Just my .02 on it. I am glad your butterchurn is on the way, and it sounds like that man's family is doing OK now..... *whew*!!!
JennaPea March 4th, 2003, 11:03 AM I don't think I would have gone as far as leaving negative feedback unless I had already paid for it. Since I hadn't yet, and had he not emailed me, I guess I would have just let it drop.
I'm kind of wimpy when it comes to saying or writing my "bad thoughts" out loud. I hate confrontation and hurting people's feelings. :(
Thanks for the help ya'll! ;)

You definitely are NOT as a**, JennaPea -- you are a strong, proud Warrior!! :D
It's so easy to jump to conclusions when stuff like this happens -- we ALL do it! It's good to try to remember this when it happens next time (because you know there WILL be a next time). Births happen, deaths happen, crises happen -- but for some reason we always think we're being dissed or ignored instead of the other possibilities. Don't give it a second thought, cuz if this is what makes someone an a**, then you (and I) are in the good company of MILLIONS!! ;)
Teacherbear March 4th, 2003, 03:18 PM <hugs Jennapea>
I think this is just a relative of the phenomenon that allows people to find lost items!!! If you post about not getting things you've ordered, then they come faster! :)
I'm glad you sought our advice (though I'm not and didn't give any) before giving negative feedback!!! (((hugs))))
