I wonder if the board has to do that. I remember when we first were on Network 54. I think Shawnee was in charge then. She set it so the last post answered didn't pop up to the top. I like it when the posts stay where they start out. If that makes sense.

Isn't it great though? And you don't have to go fishing around for them, the most recentally responded to post is first and that's great when people are reffering to that post. :) My computer freezes while going back so many pages on a website.. no idea why.

so I can see if any new posters have replied. There is a wireless forum that I belong to which has the same thing, so I gues I am used to it.

In this format I like first post on top because like stated above by KittyB you immediately see the new posts without having to search.

I've been on other boards with similar format and it works great - just a little tweaking in your own reading style... :D ...g

I like having new posts come to the top. I think that for threaded forums like network54 it works fine to have the posts stay put, since you can see when there are new posts. But with this type of board, having the threads with new posts comes to the top is good, since you can see which ones have new replies.

I have to admit that I like this format better. On the N54 board, I would pretty much only read the posts that were on the first page. It was too hard for me to keep up with. I guess I have short attention span :), but it was difficult to go through so many pages of posts.

Carolyn, I remember the bouncing thread at Shawnee's site.
It was confusing for me to remember what had been posted, to reply without over loading the board, and to keep up in general.

If a post was not replied to in a certain amount of time it got lost on the back pages.
Also, a topic that one person would reply to would bounce to the top no matter how far back it was on the pages.

I remember us asking Shawnee to change it.

I don't like it at all! :| Sorry to be the voice of dissent, but there you have it. It is much more logical to me for a post to be located in its original place. I don't have time to hunt posts down or to go through each thread to find a particular post. Okay, I'm whining now...

I'm having a real hard time with the posts moving around too. I'm trying to get used to it and I will in time. I just find it sooooooo annoying and so frustratingly awkward. I know part it of it is just that I am used to the Network 54 setup but for me it was much more user friendly. Everytime I log in here the posts are in a different order and that is so confusing to me. I find I am spending way too much time searching for the post I want to read over here. I know I can be a real computer ninny sometimes. Maybe when Stephanie gets the treaded view it will be better. Maybe it's just my MPW brain doesn't work as fast anymore. I'm gonna try real hard to get used the new boards and hopefully once I get the hang of it all will be fine.

I totally agree...When a tread moved to another page it got 'lost'. I like this format so much better!!!

I know on other boards the format 'remember' how many new post there are in a thread and jump to the new ones when you click on the thread. That way you dont have to 'find' the new one/ scroll through a thread. Maybe that could be an idea....

Maybe the bouncing threads could be made into a personal option? For those who don't like it at all, I mean.

I haven't decided if I like it or not yet :)

I just learned from Snippet that the jump feature is already here. Just click on the arrow and you dont have to scroll through a thread!

It's much more standard for boards, and I think it's easier to find the new and active posts (which are usually what I'm interested in reading on a daily basis). If I want to find an old, non-active thread, I'll do a search on it.

And... it will eventually mean far less clutter on the board. Because new posts are bumped to the top, we won't need to post message that essentially say: "New post on <blah> board," or "New post in the <blah> thread," because those posts will automagically be bumped up for people to find, if they're interested.

Cheers,
Jonobie

I like this format. :P I visit other boards that work this way, and I like the new posts at the top. I used to scroll back to certain topics to see if anyone had added a comment or not. This way I already know.

The kind of board I DON'T like is the type where you can't read the entire thread; i.e., you click to read the original response; hit the back button; click to read the first response; click the back button, etc. etc.. You know what I mean?

There is a board I visit at voy.com that is like that. I HATE IT, but I really want to read what's posted. I don't read everything tho, because it's too cumbersome.

I think this is just fine, Steph!

as many of the others have stated, the mobile topics are much more common. i'm used to it since that's the way delphi forums work, and i started dealing with those long before i found the original lhl site.

I especially like the "View New Posts" feature - much easier to catch up... :DD ...g

I frequent forums of both types. I actually prefer threads to stay in the order that they were begun. Sometimes I seem to miss a thread they move around, especially a thread that few people happen to respond to.
Just my two cents.
