View Full Version : When it comes to growing out bangs...

I'm going to talk a little about looks.

Up until I was 23 I strongly disliked my nose. I thought it was all sorts of ugly things and wanted to get a nose job done, because I thought my nose was responsible for everything that's gone wrong in my life. Everyone convinced me not to do it, though, so I didn't. And then one day when I was 23 I suddenly realized that my nose was beautiful!
When people talk about hating certain body parts, they often say "It would be as ridiculous as you saing you'd want to get a nose job". That's because they like my nose and are convinced that it's the one body part that I'm least likely to have had bad thoughts about.

The same goes for my legs. I used to think they were so ugly that I wore jeans all summer, even though it was hot and uncomfortable. One day it was so unbearably hot that I put on a skirt, and received so many compliments that I walked with my head in the clouds all day. And now I consider my legs to be one of my greatest assets (together with my nose :) ).

I just wanted to say that it could very well be the same with growing out your bangs. You have this idea that your forehead is ugly, and you've had your bangs most of your life. So when you try to grow them out you think you look ridiculous/ugly/old/whatever. I used to think that too, but when I pull my hair back from my face I usually receive compliments.

So... I wanted to give a little encouragement to those of you growing out your bangs. I started out hating the bare forehead look to, but suddenly something changed and I realized that I look ten times better without my bangs. And my older bangs-pictures simply don't look good anymore. Now I'll never go back to bangs again.

So hang in there, fellow bang-growers! Our perceptions of ourselves are often not how the rest of the world sees us. And our perceptions can change.

I really needed to read that post. Thank you for the nice reflection. I was seriously considering trimming my bangs again. Your post helped me reconsider. I too get compliments when I pin my bangs back. Thanks! :)

Just the incentive I needed to keep growing my bangs.

Take care :)

Feye, You are absolutly right! Thank you so much for that post. My bangs have actually invaded my dreams lately. I had a nightmare that I cut them back in! Everybody in the dream kept saying "but you looked so much better without the bangs". And I kept trying to even them out until I had little mini-bangs. Funny thing was, the people that kept complaining that I cut them were the same people in RL that say they liked me better with bangs. Heeheehee. I am getting used to the no-bang look and am getting quite happy with it :)

What a great post, Feye. I used to think I needed bangs to cover my forehead, but once I got used to brushing my hair back I discovered that it really looked okay. The notion of a forehead being 'too big' is rather ridiculous when you think about it anyway. Too big for what, exactly?! :DD

Big foreheads = sign of high intellegence. :D

It's funny, I never liked my nose, either. Still don't, actually, but my boyfriend keeps trying to convince me it's a beautiful nose, so maybe eventually I'll come around...

Well, I cut my bangs again a couple of days ago. I just feel better with them. They are now a little past the brows. I don't think my forehead is ugly, but I do think that bangs flatter my face. And I always get compliments when I cut them. Defiitely not when I pull them back. But this is life: only very few things go for everyone. :D

Thanks, Feye. I have a longish face and have had long bangs forever. I have decided recently to grow them out - your post is very timely. You are right: I think I'll look fine without them. Thank you! :D

I wish I had started growing mine back when I had some :D

I have always LOVED long bangs, especially when parted on the side. If I had them, I would grow them along with the rest of my hair, which I AM growing!!! :D
