View Full Version : Two braids!
GlennaGirl March 17th, 2007, 10:19 AM This is probably not exactly a revelation for anyone born after, say, 2500 BCE. But...two braids can be really cute.
My hair is still quite short (21"?--I think), but I did two Pocahantas braids, very close to my head right behind my ears so they fall straight down in front of my shoulders, and it looks really cute--I'm new to "styles" at all, so it's kind of fun to be trying new things. Usually it's either in a half-up or a very plain-looking bun.
I've tried braids before but they looked plain to me. I think part of it is the henna color. My plug-in thingie (what's that called?) got chewed by my DS, so it's broken, but we're going to Radio Shack this weekend to look for a new one so I can take and upload pictures. If that gets done I'll post a pic.
Who else likes braids?
Felicity March 17th, 2007, 10:33 AM I love braids. I can sorta french braid my hair but I really want it long enough to do two basic three strand plaits. I tried today but my mom saw them and was like "your hair really isn't long enough for that". So I took them out. Thought I was too old for my mom's opinions but I guess not lol. She also wants me to keep it short since according to her it looks better but it really only looks better because I'm taking care of my hair now not because of the length.
Xandergrammy March 17th, 2007, 10:42 AM I'm a huge fan of two braids. It's my grandson's favorite Grammy 'do! :D

SpecialKitty March 17th, 2007, 11:06 AM oooh, me, me too! I love braids just like the ones you describe, GlennaGirl! I'd love to see a pic when you get a chance. I agree, they are perfectly cute - and when I wear this style, I get lots of compliments. I bet your braids look great with your henna color.
And Leni, may I just say WOW! your braids are fabulous!
Shiin March 17th, 2007, 11:29 AM I love braids - one of the reasons I decided to grow my hair long was because I wanted it long enough to be able to braid - and even more importantly for me to be able to braid it by myself  I usually wear my hair now in some type of braid - more often than not 2 braids. I love the look and it makes me happy to know I am learning to do it and get better at it. :cloud9:

Ooooooooooooh, I LOVE THIS! I was wondering if the in-front-of-the-shoulder look would still look good with long braids. I guess this answers my question!
spidermom March 17th, 2007, 11:42 AM Me too! I found a 2-braids style on dressytresses that starts at the right front and finishes at the left back, and at the left front finishing at the right back. It forms an X high at the back of the head. I've been working on doing it to myself but have failed thus far. I can't wait to get it right!
Sari March 17th, 2007, 11:45 AM I have even given professional talks in two braids
Firefly March 17th, 2007, 11:51 AM LOVE the two braid look! It works on so many different ages and styles, IMO.
Xandergrammy-- yours look fantastic!!

smokeandwine March 17th, 2007, 12:04 PM I find I lean more towards the two braid look than the single braid - so I definitely agree!

SchnauzerMom March 17th, 2007, 01:04 PM I love braids too! Here's my attempt with two braids.

Heidi braids is what I call them. I don't know if that's the official term or not.
Felicity March 17th, 2007, 01:15 PM schnauzer mom I love your braids and your color is so pretty :)
Bronwyn March 17th, 2007, 02:28 PM I really love two braids also! On me, the classic single braid from the nape of the neck looks kinda blah. It's probably fine from the back, but from the front it gives me a long oval face, kinda horsey, and the hair gets pulled back from the part over my ears in a pretty daggy 60's kinda way. (Like, daggy in the 60's, not just now!) The two braids fixes that up, and I really like the look.
I particularly like doing rope braids rather than 3 strand. I'd never even heard of them, let alone seen one, before I started looking on the net for things to do with my hair last December. I actually get a few comments on them, because they look 'difficult'. (They aren't).
ShanaMaidela March 17th, 2007, 02:42 PM Me too! I tried that and made a mess out of my hair. :silly: I wanna try it again. Hmm...Maybe I should do that tonight.....
I do the two braid things. I like them better starting behind the ear. I also like to then put them up into Heidi Braids. It's one of my favorite styles.
Medievalhair March 17th, 2007, 02:47 PM I love braids. Espacially two French braids or one english braid. I found easier on both and others as along as I am standing over them to do it.
SchnauzerMom March 17th, 2007, 03:03 PM schnauzer mom I love your braids and your color is so pretty :)
Thanks, it's finally long enough to do braids. Yay!
Mrar34 March 17th, 2007, 03:13 PM Two braids is my absolute favorite style! Easy, comfortable, out of the way, and I can sleep in them. Sleeping in a single braid is, for some reason, outrageously uncomfortable for me. Although when I wear two braids my friends and family tend to pull them a lot.
I found this picture of me with two braids, back when I had red hair. This picture makes me miss my red hair so much...ah well.

GlennaGirl March 17th, 2007, 03:14 PM SchnauserMom, those are adorable. I'm going to have to try those.
GlennaGirl March 17th, 2007, 03:14 PM Mrar, you are so cute. Your braids look really thick. You say you miss your red--what happened to it? Did you color your hair?
Mrar34 March 17th, 2007, 03:21 PM Glennagirl, I colored my hair using henndigo a month or so ago, and now I'm trying to grow out my natural brown color. I haven't seen it in so long I feel it's about time! I like my new color, but I was red for so long that I miss it when I see pictures of it.

I love it!!!!!!!! I am so glad to see all the long braids around here! Gosh, that is some beautiful hair.
Patty lou March 18th, 2007, 04:41 AM Both DD's and I wear 2 braids all the time and half the time I wear mine pinned up across the top of my head like SchnauzerMom "Heidi style" .
I really like that look as it can be made a very professional style for work.

Just_Isabel March 18th, 2007, 05:03 AM I love them too. - I usually start behind my ears.
If I braid my hair while it's wet I can go for 2 days or so without doing anything to my hair at all, I love it! On day 3 or 4 I have to re-do the braids because the hair starts trying to escape.
I'm alway kind of nervous that people will think I'm being incredibly childish  but I still love the two braids.

Flutterbee March 18th, 2007, 05:21 AM I love the look of two braids! I am slowly working on my braiding skills, I might try to do two braids today and see how it comes out!

My favorite way to wear my hair! My family comes up behind me and ties them in knots.. I don't really know why though ^.^
don't mind the PJ pants.. :)

Okay...may I just point out here the unfairness that anybody's ONE braid could be thicker than BOTH of mine together.   Lovely pic!
thetokenlady March 18th, 2007, 06:29 AM I tried two braids this morning, and it is kind of a cute style. Mine are long enough to hang well in front of my shoulders, though they are pathetically thin. I came downstairs with them and hubby looked at me and said "Grandfather, grandfather!" in his best Shirley Temple/Heidi voice.
I didn't kill him, after 20 years I'm kind of used to it.

Hey, you know, don't worry about that. I too have "disappearing hair". It doesn't look so thin when it's down, but when I bind it in any way, poof, what looked like volume just...goes. My braids are SO thin. But I personally think thin braids are still adorable.

Leni, Of course it was you that inspired me to post my double braid pic. I love yours too!!! :inlove:

Yambucket, lovely double braids! :cloud9:
thetokenlady March 18th, 2007, 06:41 AM GlennaGirl, I know just what you mean. Leave those curls out there and I can have "big hair" like nothing else. Put it in an updo, braid it, even ponytail it and it compresses amazingly. I can get my entire cinnamon bun under a small Ficcare.
Question for those who like the double braids:
The Heidi braids are real cute, the ones where you make the braids just over the ears and then wrap them across the top of your head. Is there a way to do them when your braids are longer than your head is wide? I tried it that way first and had about an inch of braid, plus the braid tassel, hanging down past my ears, which looked kind of dorky. What's the best way to tuck in the ends?
