View Full Version : Hair washing Jessica84 October 1st, 2003, 06:08 AM just out of curiosity Pixna October 1st, 2003, 06:23 AM I've been shampooing once a week, and I love the sense of freedom it brings. By day seven I am ready for a shampoo, but my hair still doesn't look bad or dirty. I could probably go an extra day if I really had to. It's a wonderful, liberating feeling! Shelly October 1st, 2003, 06:34 AM I only wash once weekly. I could probably go a lot longer if I didn't oil my hair daily. One of these days I'm going to have to find out how long it takes for my hair to get "dirty" if I don't oil at all. I'm sure I could probably go at least a week and a half to 2 weeks without washing. DweamGoiL October 1st, 2003, 06:56 AM My hair gets oily by day 5, but lately, I have been forced to go sometimes to day 6 due to school, work, pregnancy, teenager, etc. So on average, I say I wash about 1x/week, but it's slightly off by a day or two depending on what time permits ;) Jonobie October 1st, 2003, 07:39 AM Not sure how to answer the question, so I chose "every 2 days". I wash on Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday. I've found that while I can go longer without washing, I like the way my hair looks, feels, and smells with this frequency of washing. I think, too, that I end up giving myself a massage when I shampoo so it indirectly is good for hair growth. ;-) Edited to add: I'm not sure if it matters, but usually 2 of these 3 washes are CO washes. Sometimes all 3 of them are; it just depends on the week. Cheers, Jonobie Elle October 1st, 2003, 07:52 AM I'm with you on this one, Jonobie. I wash my hair every other day. I love the smell and feel of freshly washed hair. :) And you're right. It does look better, too... I imagine I could duplicate the look by spritzing, fluffing, plopping (Yeah, right... who am I kidding? Maybe one day.. *sigh*), but it just isn't the same... Brenda October 1st, 2003, 09:23 AM I generally wash every 3-4 days, but I did meet a lady recently who told me (out of the blue, too...we weren't even talking hair) that she once went 5 MONTHS without washing... She said she just brushed daily and washed her hairbrush religiously after every use. She seemed to feel that she probably could have gone on like that indefinately... LiLi October 1st, 2003, 02:30 PM I usually go 4-6 days, depending on how much I sweat during the week. If I excercise 2+ times during that timespan (like I should!!), I usually wash on day 4, but if i'm being a lazy couch potato, I can go as long as seven. I like my hair best on day 3 and 4, but by 5 my scalp starts looking oily and it doesn't look good when I leave my hair down (looks great with just the top gathered in a braid or beret, though!) So, the short version: ~5 days 8) Persephone October 1st, 2003, 04:53 PM I'm working on getting it to the point where I can go a week. I have been washing every 3 days, but I'm going to every 4 starting now. I shampoo tomorrow! :D I have noticed that my hair is definitely less oily. I like your system, Jonobie. I may pick that up if once a week washing doesn't work out for me. I also like my hair best when it's freshly washed, but it doesn't do anything that way! The morning after a shampoo, NO updo will stay. nastasska October 1st, 2003, 05:30 PM I can sometimes go for two weeks but usually every seven days or so.At the begining of the 1900's every four weeks was recommended as ideal I have an article in a costume book about it ;) Anne October 1st, 2003, 05:32 PM I chose every two days, that comes out to be twice a week or three, depending on the day I wash. For instance, if I wash on Monday, I don't wash it on Tues or Wed, then wash on Thursday, no wash on Friday or Saturday, wash on Sunday, which turns out to be three days a week. What follows is then a wash on Wed, no wash Thurs or Friday, wash on Saturday, comes out to be two days per week. Bwhahahaha! like you care about all that drivel :D At this point I don't think I'll be able to go for three days without washing. I just don't like to go around with really greasy hair. However, if Pixna is right about my scalp getting used to this routine, I may be able to go longer in the future. morguebabe October 1st, 2003, 06:38 PM Co everyday - CWC weekly - and I do full length shampoo if'm really oily or dirty. snippet October 1st, 2003, 10:08 PM During the summer I wash every 5th day. I don't have a reminder in my calendar (although that's not a bad idea) so I let my hair tell me. In the winter, it's every 7 days. Twitch October 2nd, 2003, 07:32 AM every 2-3 days for me, usually 3 times a week. if i go longer my bangs start to look greasy and i havent yet mastered the art of scalpwashing. *sigh* bellawave October 2nd, 2003, 09:04 AM Every day. If I don't, my scalp gets greasy and starts to smell by the 2nd day. Then it breaks out. Once my hair is long enough I will try scalp washing, since my hair doesn't really need to be washed every day (just my scalp). Speedqueen October 2nd, 2003, 09:47 AM I said every 3 days but I co every day and shampoo every 3 days. I like the smell and feel of freshly "washed" hair. Plus I even with waist length hair I get "bed head" and its the ONLY way to get it out. Cheers Speedqueen Sara October 2nd, 2003, 10:28 AM I wash my hair everytime I'm going somewhere, but my hair almost always has atleast one day of rest a week, but usually 2-3. My hair gets oily by the middle of the second day and I can't stand being out in public with oily hair.[/b] MattyLou October 2nd, 2003, 11:27 AM I try to wash once a week and CO once a week, but really it depends on how my hair looks on any given day. Exercising/sweating often forces me to change the schedule and wash a little more often. Teacherbear October 2nd, 2003, 05:01 PM I voted 3 days, but it is really every 3-4 days. Lexy October 3rd, 2003, 12:56 PM I wash once a week, but I have been thinking lately that I can go longer. I haven't so far because the only time I can really see how long my hair is, is Sunday night after I wash. On all the other days it's really wavy from braids and buns. Sarah October 3rd, 2003, 10:31 PM I voted every day, though I often skip a day. My roots are oily by the second day, so I can't wear my hair down then. And sometimes my scalp itches a little, too. When I was, I usually hold the length out of the way when I rinse, so it gets conditioned, but it doesn't get any shampoo. I'd do more scalp washes if I had a better sink for it, and if I had my own bathroom. Wanita October 4th, 2003, 05:31 AM I voted for every 2 days. It's usually 3x a week (Sunday, Wednesday, Friday or Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday) depending on what's going on that week. Meezer October 4th, 2003, 03:43 PM I'm a daily washer... always have been. As a curly-girl, I tend to use more styling products than straighties... hence, more build-up. However, since discovering LHC I only use sulfate free shampoos-- my favorites being gary Null Heavenly Hair Cleanser AND California Baby Shampoos. Maggie October 4th, 2003, 03:58 PM I've been able to go every 5-7 days lately. Haven't been going on the ski-machine lately :no so my head hasn't been getting sweaty. Also I think the change in the weather has helped. Maybe the way I've been shampooing (or rather not shampooing) has helped, too. I've been C ACVrinse C. Morning and night, I work in one squirt of Herbal Essence Leave-in. My hair has been loving it! Maggie collielady October 5th, 2003, 10:43 AM I wash every other day. The scalp, that is - the length gets wet, but I only wash it when I feel it needs it. This can be after two days if I've been around smokers or something, or seven days if I've been out in the elements a lot. |
