When your hair is trimmed, is it done while it's wet or dry?
Which do you like better?

I trim dry--among other things, I get a realistic look at how much I'm trimming. :)

I was just wondering this about all of you folks myself!

I've usually trimmed wet, but now that I am armed with new info, I'll be trimming dry next time (a few weeks from now)...

Right now I'm in a "no trimming" mode. I am planning on trying this for the next year or so -- if I can hang in there! -- or indefinitely, if I'm happy with the way things are going. However, when I DID trim, I would do so with my hair wet -- it's the only way I could get a blunt hemline, since my hair is wavy.

When my hair is trimmed, it's when it is wet...
but I did read that naturally curly hair should be
done when it's dry to rule out the curl factor.

I trim when dry, because I comb my hair a lot when I trim, and if it's wet I'm afraid I'll stretch it too much, and cause breakage.

Dry. On those rare moments when it does get trimmed. I avoid it like the plague. If it's damp the ends always dry up to different lengths and it looks messy on me. So I trim on freshly washed and dried.

Before LHL, I trimmed wet (rather, a "stylist" trimmed it wet).

AFTER LhL, I've only had my hair dry-trimmed! :)

THE absolute best deal on dry trimming is at the barber, if you ask me!

I didn't vote because although I have had my hair trimmed wet for the last several years I am going to ask for a dry trim the next time I have it trimmed. When I had hair this length before it was trimmed dry and I liked it.

In fact, it's been more than two years since I had a trim. The last one was at Christmas 2000, and even that was a rare one. I may get a trim (dusting) soon, but only if I can find a reputable hairstylist that I can trust not to hack a bunch off. :)

I prefer to have it trimmed when it's dry, but sometimes I can't have that done.

My husband trims my hair for me and I actually had a new moon trim last night, but I'd had my hair in a braid all day and we couldn't trim with the wavies, so I had to wet it and then blow dry on cool until it was just damp.

Most of the time though, he likes to cut it when it's dry.

I find it difficult to trim my wavy hair evenly when it's dry, so I usually trim it wet.

I always felt it should be trimmed dry in my instinct but hair is traditionally done wet isn't it. An most stylist swould look at my hair (frizz/wave) and never consider doing it dry, but I now see that shows incompetance on their part and will be my guide if I ever can't go to my GM guy!

Dry. When I was younger we used to trim it wet, but I like it dry much more and gives a good look right away how it will be.

My trim in February was done dry. This was the first time that I'd ever had a dry trim and it worked out just fine... plus I didn't have to pay extra for shampoo and styling.

That being said, I still don't have a preference towards either wet or dry trimming. As my hair gets longer, I will let it decide for me.

I get it trimmed wet by a hairdresser. I find it looks kind of choppy if its done dry, and I don't trust myself to do it evenly as its not quite long enough. I do trim off split when dry of course, I don't think they show up when hair is wet.

Always wet. The one time I had it trimmed dry, the ends looked awful.

Dry for me

Since my hair is wavy/curly and I trim it myself, I prefer to trim it when it is dry.

I find it's easier to self trim lightly damp, but prefer dry trims. When I was younger, all my salon trims were wet, but recently the two I've had were dry.

I've always done mine wet, due to my hair being a bit unpredictable one day its dead straight the next its curley, it would be too uneven done dry!

I prefer dry to wet.

I am definitely anti-trim right now :rockerdud

When I used to trim my hair, I usually did it wet. It was easier to control that way. Dry, it would move too much

This is true. If I trim while my hair is wet, when it dries it shrinks up, so I end up taking too much off the ends if it's trimmed wet. :scared: :nono:

Wet. I've been pleased with the results of microtrims on my wet hair (because my stylist does a great job!)

I have had both wet and dry. I usually have it done wet because the stylist was trained that way and I don't want some scissor happy stylist out of her eliment near my hair. My last trim was by my partner, she took off the last bit of damage by rubbing it across her upper lip to feel for softness, so it was dry. I don't truely have a prefrence with trims other than I would rather not have them.

Dry. It's so much easier to tell how much you're actually taking off, and you see the damage ends better.

On the rare occasion that it is trimmed, my mother trims it dry. I've never had my hair trimmed when it's wet.

Mine is currently trimmed while wet, because I have layers I'm growing out that I cannot reach to trim my own hair, so once the layers are grown out, I will stop going to the salon to have them trimmed and just do it myself.

I know it's supposed to be healthier when trimmed dry but I couldn't handle my waves so I trim it wet or damp.

I tried Feye's method - dry, but it just didn't work for me. I self-trim my hair wet with loads of conditioner to help get out the tangles.

I had it trimmed dry the last time and it was *horrible*, lopsided and strange bits that stuck down after I washed it the next time, because they'd been in a different position when cut, it doesn't all hang the same way each time it dries, it's not curly enough to be consistent. Ugh. It still looks funny, even though I fixed some of the major issues afterwards.

I voted wet, but I've done it both ways. It's faster to do it dry but since my hair doesn't always get the same wave every time, it's not as even after a wash, IMO. So If I really want it to be even, I trim wet.

I am anti-trim for a while. I checked a few days ago and there are no split ends in site. So, I plan to let it grow as long as the splits stay away.

BTW- my last trim (2 inches or so) was wet and the hair dresser took off more than I asked. That was right after Mother's Day this year. The gal did a good job and it did look better. But, it wasn't what I requested.

I voted 'wet', it makes it easier to trim.... and easier to get a good blunt edge.

The hairdresser always trims wet. Is there a difference? I always thought that if it was dry when trimmed it would cause more damage. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I trim dry, it's easier for me to handle and I can also see any splits that need to be trimmed.

I trim dry. I usually trim after I have already had my hair in small 2 strand twists for a while. I then snip the same length off of each, wash, air dry, and then make any other necessary snips. It also helps when I'm trimming for shape. i get a realistic semblance of my actual shrinkage (I have 3c hair) while also providing control.

Definitely wet. I have too much volume for it to be trimmed accurately when dry. The only problem is that it's very hard to detangle my hair when it's wet. Lately I've been using silicones just for trims because it makes things a little bit easier.

Wet - I have weird, quirky waves in the back, and I'd be worried it would end up in a zigzag if it were trimmed dry.

Wet. My husband trims it and he prefers to cut it wet--feels more confident. It's not even a cut or trim. It's more like a dusting.

I picked "doesn't get trimmed" since I don't plan to trim anymore unless it really needs it. When I used to get it trimmed, it would be wet. Not sure what I'll do in the future - Feye's method seems like it would work pretty well on dry hair, so maybe I"ll try that.

I trim it when its dry and dirty. I find dirty dry hair much easier to work with than wet hair, or dry clean hair.

I trim my hair wet. The hairs "stick" together more which I find easier and quicker for cutting, but also for cleaning: the hair that's cut off falls straight down (because of the added weight of the water and because it sticks together in little clumps) instead of floating around. :agree:

The stylists I have used over the years have usually trimmed/cut wet; I trimmed my bangs myself a couple weeks ago, did them dry and they turned out okay. I will continue dry.

I chose wet because "damp" is closer to wet than dry :silly:

My hair's wavy and if it wasn't at least damp when I trimmed it, the results would be horribly uneven.

Dry, by a hairdresser (she mists it a bit, though). I believe it would be too much hassle to wash for a 0.5" trim anyway.

I had a dreadful experience with a hairdresser who washed my hair against my protests (I was way younger then), left me sitting there for half an hour with a wet head, and then didn't dry it properly. It was winter and I got a cold afterwards; that sucked since I had to postpone a planned operation (which was the reason to get a trim in the first place) :(

I voted Dry.

I use Feye's method on dry hair. I do the one for straight hem where you just cut the tip off.

However, after I slide the band down and am about to cut I dampen just the tip area.

I always wear a ponytail in public and my hair is wavy so if it were a bit uneven no one would know.
