View Full Version : Another hairsticks question...
Princess Buttercup March 1st, 2003, 02:30 AM Do you prefer using one hairstick, or two? Would you buy a single, one-of-a-kind hairstick if you thougt it was particularly pretty? How about a pair of hairsticks in which the sticks were not identical, but coordinated?
The reason I ask is because I am thinking about making and possibly selling hairsticks on Ebay, and I've seen a lot of really pretty one-of-a-kind beads for sale that would make a gorgeous hairstick. Personally, I like single sticks... I think they look nice, and besides I have had a problem with the second stick falling out of my hair if I use two (just can't seem to get it in there tightly enough!) But I'm wondering how many people like single sticks, and how many would pass on a pretty hairstick if you couldn't get two of them?
My other idea is to use the single bead to make a hairstick and make a coordinating stick out of similarly-colored accent beads. I've seen pairs like this sold, but I'm just wondering what all you longhairs actually prefer.
Carolyn March 1st, 2003, 04:04 AM Almost all my hairsticks are in pairs. I have one longer one I made to use in a french twist type style. I think the single ones are just fine. If you like to use 2 sticks you can always add one that coordinates. I really like the idea of not matching but coordinating sticks. I have some earrings like that and I love them. I'm a little unbalanced at times anyways :D I kind of like the odd and quirky things. One stick doesn't hold a bun all that well for me unless I used a couple of KM's great Gooddays hair pins to help hold the bun. I tend to have slippery buns. I have a friend who does a single braid and then folds it in half and tucks the end up inside the base of the braid and holds it there with a single stick inserted horizontally. It's really a cool style. I think you could make some up both ways and see what sells. If I saw a single stick I loved I would just find another one that looked good with it and go with that. Good luck to you in your hair stick venture.

I only own one pair of hairsticks, and I use them as a pair most of the time. They are not identical, but coordinated. But I've been on the lookout of one single hairstick as well, and if I found a beautiful one I'd definitely buy it.
Heidi March 1st, 2003, 07:35 AM I'm definitely a single hairstick user...sometimes I'll buy a pair knowing a friend of my will have similar taste and we'll split 'em up.
Good luck in your creative endeavor...I can't wait to see them!
Hollie March 1st, 2003, 08:08 AM Single stick here!
March 1st, 2003, 08:34 AM I'll either use a single stick or sometimes I use a plain stick with a designer stick. I just make sure that it's the same type of wood.
Melusina March 1st, 2003, 08:37 AM I'm still trying to get the darned things to work for me, and have a lot of sticking-out hair bits, so I am no authority. BUT.... I love the way single sticks look, and I would absolutely buy single sticks, or make coordinated pairs.
dancingbarefoot March 1st, 2003, 08:37 AM I use a single stick for buns, but if I'm doing a French twist, I need two sticks to keep it fastened. I don't own any single sticks, just use one stick from one of my many pairs. I might buy a single stick if I could find nice ones. :)
Madeleine March 1st, 2003, 09:45 AM I use single sticks all the time. I have a bunch that have all the same shape but different colours, and if I feel like using a pair I mix and match.
I'd certainly buy a single stick if I liked it.
snippet March 1st, 2003, 11:54 AM I've got singles and pairs. I would buy one really pretty stick and a more plain stick that matched, that would be very nice. I've seen some like that and have been thinking about buying them.
Anne March 1st, 2003, 12:04 PM I would buy a single stick and something else that I like is an ornamental sick with a second plain stick that matches to make a pair.
I would buy both pairs and single though.
bunniee March 1st, 2003, 12:34 PM I like single hairsticks. One of my favorites is a geisha hairstick I got from Longlocks. It's a green stick with green & gold decorations and a tiny gold folding fan. They don't have this style up on the website anymore, but there are some really nice ones available.

Princess Buttercup March 1st, 2003, 01:03 PM Thanks for sharing your opinions, everyone! It seems like I could probably go either way, offering single sticks or coordinated pairs. I kind of like the pairs idea, actually. Now I just gotta get my supplies together and get started.
Thanks for your help.
Karrinne March 1st, 2003, 01:46 PM Most of mine have been bought in pairs, but I do have two or three single ones I have bought because they were so gorgeous!!!! I prefer two at once, but do wear the fancy single ones too!! :D
Teacherbear March 1st, 2003, 02:45 PM either or both, to both questions.
I usually use 2 sticks, but sometimes use one. I think 1 looks classier.
All of mine are pairs, but after seeing a seller who had coordinating sticks (I think Martine posted the site), I've decided it's ok to mix them up, too! :)
I agree, try both options (or is that 4 options? ;) )
See what sells!
Good luck! :)
laurel March 3rd, 2003, 11:32 AM I would definately buy one since I usually only wear one. I think coordinating sticks would be nice for those who wear two. I think it would be just a little more interesting on days when you're feeling fun to wear two similar-but-not-the-same sticks than a matching set. (Not that there's anything wrong with matching sets! :D )
euphrasyne March 3rd, 2003, 11:39 AM I only ever wear one stick. Two sticks makes my head feel heavy, and pulls too much.

Heidi March 3rd, 2003, 12:30 PM Bunniee! Thanks for posting that site--not only are the hairstix cool, but the postcards and long hair images are beautiful!
BeeLady March 3rd, 2003, 01:00 PM I have two pairs: One plastic with blue flowers on, one metallised plastic with a blue cabachon on the end... Then I have an odd one (the other broke) which I love, and I have a single stick sent to my by LisaJaney. It is truly beautiful, and is hand made. It is very special, and is saved for special occasions (I wore it to my grandma's 80'th birthday do when I did my funny braided thing). I use both, depending on the style I'm using. I have a single one on order from Madeleine right now, and often use one with some good hair days pins or scroos, because I like that asymmetric look. A single stick looks good if the stick is nice. I guess it depends on your hair as well......

FlyBabyTina May 16th, 2004, 04:41 PM Princess Buttercup, what did you decide? I would love to see some of your creations!
Vampberry May 18th, 2004, 02:20 AM I use one if I'm wearing a bun, but two with french twist. I usually wear buns so single stick would be okay but I think I would prefer to buy them in pairs, coordinated would be great :). At the moment I have 1 plastic, orange/glittery pair and 2 pairs I've made myself since the orange ones were the only ones I could find in the stores. In most places they didn't even know what a hairstick is :shake:
Chamomile betty May 18th, 2004, 03:56 AM I have bought pairs and bought single sticks. On myself, I like the look of one stick but will wear two sometimes.
I would by a set of coordinating sticks also.
Let's just say I love buying hairsticks and they are my down fall lol If I like 'em I buy them pair or single.
I also have a lot of thick hair and prefer longish sticks.
Good luck

balleryna May 18th, 2004, 04:22 AM I typically buy them in pairs, yes. But I do believe that one unique single hairstick would be stunning! also perhaps coordinating but not identical hairsticks woudl be a very very cool!
