View Full Version : The George Michael Method of Long Hair Care Flaxen December 9th, 2006, 11:03 AM *Due to copyright concerns, I am temporarily taking down this article to rewrite it.* blondecat December 9th, 2006, 06:10 PM ? I wear a centre part, and I think it looks good. Blondecat Kuchen December 10th, 2006, 02:07 AM Do they mean *my* right side, or the other right side? :silly: darkwaves December 10th, 2006, 05:38 AM Hi Flaxen -- This is so interesting. I've found snippets of the GM theory scattered over the Internet, but good to see it in one place -- even if, as a curly, I had nothing but awful tangles after my one attempt to brush my hair upside down! Lots of good advice, though, about air drying, and not brushing wet, and CWC... I love this part: A) Have a friend hold up the ends of your hair. While bending over the sink, wash and rinse your scalp only. Now that's the definition of a friend to me! (I can just imagine the looks on my kids' or DH's faces if I suggested that to them!) Flaxen December 10th, 2006, 12:40 PM blondecat you should part your hair wherever you like. Because of a cowlick, I can't even part mine on the right! Kuchen, Dr. Michael means *your* right. In the theater that's stage right, so I guess for us it would be...what, head right? ...even if, as a curly, I had nothing but awful tangles after my one attempt to brush my hair upside down!... I've almost eliminated brushing from my routine, too. Classic GM hair is type 1 hair, there's no doubt about that. Still, like you said, I think there are good tips there for everyone. I love this part:"A) Have a friend hold up the ends of your hair. While bending over the sink, wash and rinse your scalp only." Now that's the definition of a friend to me! (I can just imagine the looks on my kids' or DH's faces if I suggested that to them!) I know! Maybe one day when I get that personal braider, they'll hold my hair for scalp washes, too...:ponder: :rollin: darkwaves December 10th, 2006, 01:12 PM Because of a cowlick, I can't even part mine on the right! I love parting mine on my right -- that's where the gray is growing, all along that part line. Seriously! I like it. Hair growth patterns are weird, though... If I part on the left or middle, no gray -- when it's loose, at least, because the hair falls and hides my temples...) Part it on the right and ... look at those silvers! I know! Maybe one day when I get that personal braider, they'll hold my hair for scalp washes, too...:ponder: :rollin: Now there's a good idea! Ursula December 10th, 2006, 01:55 PM That is a really well done summary! A couple of thoughts. First, it might be good to put a line at the top to say that you are describing one method, but that this method is not officially endorsed by LHC. The GM method is very prescriptive, and the text, as copied, sounds as if it is an absolute rule. LHC experience, however says that this method works for some but not all people, and that there is no one rule that could ever work for everyone. People who have been here a while know the difference, but for new folk, it could be confusing, and we'll probably avoid a lot of panicked curly-hairs after they brush as directed if the GM method is put into the larger longhair context. Editing the text to give appropriate caveats would defeat the idea of the "GM System", so something clearly separate from the text would probably work better. Second, you say you got this from Brent Jones's site. He would own the copyright for any information on his website. If possible he (or if he has died, his heirs) should probably be contacted to get permission to reproduce his work here, particularly since it's a pretty big chunk of text, and might not be seen as "fair use." Flaxen December 10th, 2006, 02:10 PM Ursula, thank you; I really appreciate your thoughts. The copyright issue has been bothering me all day, and I've been trying to figure out where best to go for permission. ETA: An email has been sent. ETA: I haven't received a response, so I'm going to take the article down and rewrite it. |
