View Full Version : How many of you don't measure?

whenever i see all the signatures, i'm reminded that i never get around to measuring my hair. i doubt i've measured it since last summer. i know it's just below my waist, but i have no clue what that number is...so i'm just curious to know if i'm the only "nonmeasurer".

also, i've got enough hair to need two boxes of henna...whoooohooooo.

I measure, but it ends up being every 3-4 months (sometimes 2 if I'm feeling anxious or particularly "long"!) LOL

Otherwise, I just go by where it "feels".

I'm not going for a certain length (except to finally get that METER of hair so I can "be metric"). So measuring isn't extremely important to me.

Good Question, though!!! :)

I never measured! For some reason I don't bother.
I do count shed hairs every once in a while though, I guess that just shows that I'm more concerned about thickness than length :-)

I just go by where it ends on my body. I also count the number of hair I shed.

I don't bother to measure, I just look at where the hair ends are in relation to my body. Bangs are chin length, sides are between shoulder and bra strap, and the back of my hair is a wee bit past bra strap. 8)

Whoa.....your layers are EXACTLY like mine!! Slight length differences, but very similar. Bangs a couple of inches past chin, sides a few inches past collar bone, and back just grazing BS. :DD

I wasn't going to measure my hair, as I have some nasty perfectionist/obsessive tendencies about such things (I don't weigh myself for the same reason), but I gave in to curiosity when I delurked here. So far so good... I haven't had any urges to measure every day just to make sure it's still growing

I also count my shed hairs every once in a while. I'm glad I do though, as before I did I was positive I shed more than average and I worried a bit about it. Come to find out, I only shed about 10-20 hairs a day it just LOOKS like a ton since it's gotten this long, so I can stop obsessing about that 8) Yes, I am in therapy, just in case you wondered, LOL! ;)

i think part of why i don't bother with the numbers is that they're relative. what's waistlength for me may only be mid back for someone else....so i figure that saying my hair is "waistlength" is much more meaningful than giving some numerical reference.

also, i'm forgetful..and i found i never remembered to measure on the first, so i just gave up on the measuring.

I guess I'm weird. I really look forward to the first of the month and measuring... but maybe that's just because I haven't reached my first goal yet. Once I get to waist and beyond, that may change. That stretch between BS and waist seems to be so nebulous, that seeing that there actually is growth for sure alleviates a lot of frustration for me.

Although, knowing me (I actually plot my monthly growth), it may not.

i'm guessing that we nonmeasurers are going to be a definite minority..so you looking forward to measuring isn't strange. i was over 4 years into the growth process when i found the original lhl site..so i'd just gotten accustomed to judging length by where my hair fell on my back..i've just never gotten used to measuring.

It's kinda like steppin on the scale... I try to go by what I see in the mirror and if I'm happy with what I see, as apposed to what the actual numbers are. Out of curiosity I'll measure, but I usually end up not happy with the results. When I glance in the mirror my length always seems like it's progressing regardless of what the tape measure reads.

Geeze, does that make sense?

I like to measure if I'm trying something different to see if it makes any difference - other than that - pffft ...:DD...g

I measure once a year or so - usually around my birthday - and this year (02 - I haven't had an 03 b-day yet) I hit the meter mark. Hair grows slowly for me, and as long as I don't get too crazy trimming ends I know I'm getting longer hair.
I would just drive myself crazy if I measured every month. I have enough hair esteem issues without adding mine isn't long enough to the list :)

I dont measure because I find it is too difficult with my curls. I do stretch the hair every few days to see how long down the back it is.

I probably fall into this mindset, too. When we started monthly measuring, I would measure right along with the rest. But my hair seems to grow in spurts. I won't have any measurable growth for a few months, then all of the sudden, there's an extra 1/2" or so. I would get a little down if I had a month with no apparent growth, while others were posting gains of 1/2" to 1".

So now I measure only when it visually appears to have grown. Easier on my ego :P

I've only measured my hair once, and that was in October when I first came to the boards and everyone wanted to know how long it was. :)

I never had a length goal, just a vague "I'm not going to cut my hair" attitude. I noticed as it got longer and longer, but never thought to measure it. Now I'm interested, but I don't have the urge to measure all that frequently. (And that's good, since I can't measure it by myself, and my roommates would get tired of me asking them to help me. ;) )

Now I have a goal of knee-length, and I notice that my hair's creeping lower (ever-so-slowly, it seems!). Last night when I pulled it straight down it seemed to come halfway down my thighs. Cool!

I'm too anal to not measure. :D Actually, when I'm really depressed and stressed out, and I can tell by just looking at my hair that it hasn't done a thing, then I won't measure. I know it'll only make me feel worse. In the past year, I think this has occurred maybe 3 months.

I'm one of those people who are really into charts. I keep a monthly hair journal on my computer that details what products I've used, vitamin/supplement changes, growth, etc...

I like to measure. I wish I had measured when my hair was long before. I really think if I would have been measuring I might not have cut it. I could never tell if it was growing and just kinda gave up on it. Now each new inch gives me something to go for. Get to 28" and work on 29" then 30". Measuring also has helped keep me from trimming too much. I did that in the past too. It is very frustrating when you see no growth or very little growth. I've been thru months like that. It kind of makes me more determined not to forget my vitamins and to be kinder to my hair and remember to do scalp massages.

I've been measuring every month, but from now on, I think I'll do it only when my hair seems like it is longer. This is because although I average 1/2 inch per month, I don't get 1/2 inch every month. No pressure that way! :)

simply for the reason that for the past while I've found it too long to measure accurately by myself, and the 'not-knowing' isn't a strong enough feature to entice me to enlist the help of someone else. I'm happy enough saying that it is 'hip length' or 'approximately 32 inches' based on how far past my waist it is.
