It's not overly detailed, but there's some interesting info here, some of which was new to me, at least:

It looks like a good starting place for research on natural dye. Thanks! I'be been looking into a more natural dye.

Thank you so much! For the next three weeks or so, I'm preparing my hair for some natural dye experiments. I just colored it, so I need to wait for some roots to show...never thought I'd actually *want* that to happen! The article was helpful and very timely for me!

Hi Heidi,
You probably already knew this, but just in case, if you just colored it, be very very careful! Do a strand test on some shed hairs before you try it on your head. Natural colors and chemical dyes sometime combine for disastrous results that are irreversable! Some people have no problem whatsoever, others end up with vile shades of green, black or even wierder! I don't mean to berate, just please be cautious. Save up shed hair until you have a nice mat, then try the concoction on that first. Whatever the results are, imagine them about twice as intense, and that's what it will probably look like on your head. I am saving up nickles and dimes to henna my hair, and in the meantime visited just about every site on the net about it, plus all the wonderful advice here. Needless to say, even with virgin hair, I saved up quite a pile of shed hair to test on 8)

Hi and thank you, yes I do plan to be very careful--it's my crowning glory, right? :)
I'll start a test strand first with the coffee, maybe some strong tea, and then whichever is successful, I'll then mix with some henna, again on a test strand first. Ah yes, kitchen science at its best. I'll post my results and methods when I begin. It's strange to be checking out natural recipes for brown hair and brunettes as I've been blonde for so long!
I am loving the support of all you folks! Having a warm and fuzzy moment here
