I'm a big fan of short posts ::DD ...g KT February 28th, 2003, 12:23 AM Girls, I don't want to be a spoilsport, and I still want us to be able to have fun with stars and stuff, so please please pretty please don't shout at me, but can we please avoid posting short and/or extra posts just to get more stars? (Note: This is just my personal point of view as a normal member of the community, not me acting as a moderator, other mods might feel differently). It has been mentioned to me in private by some people that they are getting a bit tired of the race for stars, particularly people who haven't quite got the hang of these boards and their format yet - they are finding it hard enough to work out which posts they have and haven't read and how to find them without having to trawl through 'look how many posts I have?' messages too. I'm not saying we should stop - hey no, it's fun! But if we could keep it to a sensible level and use common sense (like it is now, I don't think anyone is going over the top yet :) but no more than that) that would be cool 8) So post when you get a star, or maybe add it to your sig, but no endless conversations about it. <running away from T'bear and Gabi ;)> Amazon February 28th, 2003, 03:09 AM Girls, I don't want to be a spoilsport, and I still want us to be able to have fun with stars and stuff, so please please pretty please don't shout at me, but can we please avoid posting short and/or extra posts just to get more stars? With trying to get used to the format and jumping posts, and hubby going on a "clean out the temporary internet file folder every SINGLE day" spree, and people posting 'just one more post I'll get a star' posts, I have read barely any conversations. Have fun, just please slow down a little. We are all excited about the new features and we want everybody to enjoy themselves. :) Hugs and love. Stephanie February 28th, 2003, 09:53 AM Good points, you two. I had been thinking about this but wasn't sure how to address it. KT and Am, I must agree with you - for a couple of reasons. Sometimes connections can be slow regardless of if you're on a cable line or dialup (or other). Some people have limits to bandwidth that their ISPs set. If they go over these limits, they have to pay for it big time (such as myself - I hate living here - freakin' monopoly). Anyway, it's a bit disturbing to sit down to read a good conversation and find that it's a "let's post one more time to see if we can get a star" thread. :( Also, there's an issue of disk space in the database. These posts take up a lot of room. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not putting a limit to how much or what type of information people post, but little posts such as those take up valuable space that could be used for hair talk, beauty talk, and/or friendly discussions. I put the stars up because I thought it would be fun. It has been much fun on the other boards that I've run (and participated in) and people tend to thoroughly enjoy them (especially after everyone gets at least one star - which is why I have the first star set at a low 100 posts). Anyway, I ask that people continue posting, but don't lose perspective on why we're here. It's not a race to get stars, it's a "race" for knowledge and friendship (am I getting too corny now? LOL). Please be considerate of other people. I will also post this in "Site Happenings" and in the FAQ (which I'm working on updating). KT and Am, do you mind if I post your posts, as well? It's fine if you don't want me to. Lovies EVERYONE! Sheba February 28th, 2003, 10:30 AM Just want to add that for those of us without a home computer (and with limited time when they do get access to one) it's difficult to get through all of the posts as it is.... thanks! Sheba gabiwags February 28th, 2003, 10:18 PM Oh Oh  I just read this AFTER doing a postal run ... it won't happen again :no . I seem to be terribly good at being annoying - it is important to develope one's strengths :suspect: ...:DD...g KT March 1st, 2003, 02:17 AM Steph, that's fine, I don't mind where my posts end up as long as they get read ;) Amazon March 1st, 2003, 04:33 AM Steph, that's fine, I don't mind where my posts end up as long as they get read ;) Ditto on what KT said. :) Gabi, don't worry...just slow down some. ;) Lol! |
