I guess I'll cut mine again. I know I've been trying to grow them out so often, but I just like my face better with bangs. And with bangs, I don't have to keep my hair at bs until the bangs have grown out.

And with bangs, I don't have to keep my hair at bs until the bangs have grown out. Feye February 27th, 2003, 11:27 AM Are you sure? What is it with your face that you don't like without your bangs? Does it look too square? Don't you like the shape of your hair line? Maybe there are others here who have been through the same thoughts, and have ideas (me, for example :) ). snippet February 27th, 2003, 11:36 AM aww Kati hang in there! I know growing out bangs is prolly the most frustrating time in hairstory (made that one up myself she said proudly) but give it a few more months before you cut them. I had thick bangs and would always give up because they were ugly, in the way and without them, my forehead looked naked. I felt very uncovered. If it weren't for RL (real life) taking over my every thought and actions I'd still be fighting those bangs. So, being distracted, my bangs grew without me knowing and I've never been happier. I don't have to trim my bangs every month. I don't have to deal with bangs flying around when I'm outside. My hair looks cleaner. My bangs seemed to be oily all the time. I can wear any hat I want to without having my bangs pushed down into my eyes. hmmm, I'm probably forgetting more great thing without bangs, but this might help you. gabiwags February 27th, 2003, 11:45 AM Hi Kati - I really and truly think that if you just bite the bullet for six months you'd know once and for all if you'll like yourself better without them. They (and you face) looks very different once they are long enough to fall and blend into a softer position. And cutting your hair until they catch up is just an option - you don't HAVE to do it that way...don't rush it ...g Feye February 27th, 2003, 11:51 AM I had thick bangs and would always give up because they were ugly, in the way and without them, my forehead looked naked. I felt very uncovered. Hey, Snippet :) how did you get over that about your naked forehead? I've had different sorts of phobias against growing my bangs out. My non-oval shaped hairline being one of them. Until I realized that Mena Suvari and Amanda Peterson in Can't Buy Me Love have very similar foreheads that I've got. And that's when I realized my forehead wasn't ugly at all, and that I actually looked great without bangs. No more hiding for me :) (I didn't realize I was hiding at the time, but I was, I know that now) Actually, I comb my bangs forward into regular bangs sometimes (they're still short enough to do that), and I just don't like the look of that anymore. So something's definitely changed for me, in the way that I see myself. I guess my childhood hairdresser was right, when she tried to make me grow my bangs out ten years ago. Geez... it's taken me ten years to finally succeed... Not that I have one length hair today, but I know I won't go back to bangs again in the nearest future. snippet February 27th, 2003, 11:58 AM Hey, Snippet :) how did you get over that about your naked forehead? It wasn't until I could pull my bangs into my ponytail that I really felt better about it. Plus, my acne cleared up a little, and I got a tan. :D I'm serious, my forehead was WHITE. Ever see cowboys who wear their hats 24x7 and have a tan line across their forehead??? That was me, except I didn't have that line. Your comment about noticing stars who looked similar helps too. I began noticing how many bangless women I knew and saw. Seeing them, and noticing that they didn't look weird helped me to feel more at ease with myself. Arcticpixie February 27th, 2003, 12:34 PM Hang in there gal! It isn't so bad if you give it some time. There is no reason to keep your hair at BS while your bangs grow out. As the bangs get longer you'll find all kinds of neat stuff to do with them. I'm sure they are at that frustrating "Get it out of my face or put them back" length. Another inch or less and that goes away for a bit. Just give it some more time, concentrate on another area of haircare for a few months and believe it or not when you push them forward you'll feel weird with 'em. Just another bang-growers advice ;) Grace February 27th, 2003, 12:57 PM I say to hang in there too. I thought I'd never grow mine out--argued that on LHL even. I have such a round little Czech face. But actually, now that my bangs are swept to the side, my face looks longer, not rounder like I thought would happen. And when I look back on my (last year's) bang pictures I cower in embarrassment! I look so much better without bangs. My GM salon stylist helped me with growing out my bangs. She parted my hair at the extreme right side of my head, bangs and all. She just swopped them over. I needed a bit of goop to hold them there for a few days, but after that they have stayed there all by themselves. So while my bangs are only chin length, it seems as if they are all grown out since they are not ever in my way. hth Axium February 27th, 2003, 04:11 PM I bet you'll eventually be so glad you did. :D RedButterfly February 27th, 2003, 04:24 PM Please hang in there! I'm in the same condition. I'm so tempted to cut mine again because of my tall forehead. We really should try to wait a little longer. If you hang in longer, it will help encourage me to hang in there. But of course, do what you are ultimately comfortable with. However, I do think there is something to GM's theory. Goldenhair February 28th, 2003, 06:52 AM If you like your bangs keep them. I go through phases where I grow them out and then cut them. If you keep them thin and on the long side (angling them down on the sides) you can have convertable bangs meaning you can part your hair and brush them to the sides were they aren't noticable and on other days you can comb them foreward. I say the convertable bangs are the best. Lauren February 28th, 2003, 07:04 AM I completely agree, convertible bangs are the best way in my opinion. You can wear them back or down. That's what I do! :D Almare February 28th, 2003, 02:22 PM Hang in there, Kati! I know how tough bangs are. I must have tried at least five times before I finally started. I just cut a little less, then less, slowly blending my bangs with my length. Now the last segment is down to my shoulders and the rest is at bsl. And trust me! If I can look good without bangs anyone can. It took me the longest time to adjust to seeing my forehead. ;) I have a higher forehead that slants back some, and thought it was not as nice as the tiny foreheads that everyone I knew had. I finally accepted my renaisannce brow and enjoy being a bit different. :D Good luck with your decision and know we're behind you no matter what you decide. :) Teechia February 28th, 2003, 02:52 PM I guess I'll cut mine again. I know I've been trying to grow them out so often, but I just like my face better with bangs. And with bangs, I don't have to keep my hair at bs until the bangs have grown out.I do the same thing, try to grow them out, and end up cutting them again. I really do look better with bangs, so this time, I'm keeping them!!! Teechia gabiwags February 28th, 2003, 05:17 PM And trust me! If I can look good without bangs anyone can. No bangs on me either and I actually like a high forehead but I wish mine were truly vertical... ...g charlyee March 2nd, 2003, 11:43 AM for growing out bangs. I started growing out my bangs also and everytime I look in the mirror I get more undecided and more frustrated. Mine just touch the tip of my ears. I say let's hang in there together, all of us "Bang Growers" Take Care :) Anne March 3rd, 2003, 03:26 PM I had bangs when I was in my late teens and then I tried no bangs at the suggestion of a man I was seeing at the time. I like my face better without, but it was weird at first! I agree with you that some people look better with bangs. gabiwags March 3rd, 2003, 04:27 PM For me the issue is sometimes more about how I think long hair looks with bangs. There's often an awkwardness in how they blend (not always, of course) it depends on your head shape and hair distribution...g Kati75 March 4th, 2003, 12:13 AM Well, I'm still very undecided... I cut off a little of my bangs this past weekend, they now look sort of what Goldenhair described, I think, and not frizzy anymore, so after that trim I don't think they look that terrible anymore when they are long. And, you're right, Goldenhair, convertibles are great. Oh, and I think, no, I KNOW that GM's bangs theory is not true. There's a chain of biologicals facts to prove that. Seriously, thanks everyone for your advice and encouragement. I think I WILL wait a little longer before I make any decision that I might be sorry about later. Thanks, guys, you're great! Oh, Goldenhair, could you post a pic of your bangs, pretty please? :) |
