View Full Version : honey + conditioner = awesome

Some of the ladies over at naturallycurly.com have been praising the benefits of mixing honey with their conditioner. I've used honey and warm water as a rinse before, but this was new to me.

This morning I mixed a little blob of honey with a bigger blob of AO Island Spice conditioner, and used this as a deep conditioner after washing. My hair feels so soft and silky, and I didn't need to use any styling product to combat frizz. It also feels stronger, which I didn't expect from a moisturizing treatment.

Thanks! :)

omg, bunniee i was just going to post to see if anyone does this here, too.

i just tried this too over the weekend...my hair exploded! LOL my curls were rejuvenated...the 2c sections i have spiraled, and my other waves got tighter. my straight parts had more body too. i say my hair exploded because i didn't know how moisturizing it'd be, so i combed out my hair while it was half-dry...it's been a long time since my hair was hydrated enough to look like rosanna-danna'ish...i swear, it was like i got wella flash flood results w/ this cheapo version!

my mix was probably 1:2 ratio of honey:conditioner (1 part honey, to 2 parts conditioner...did i write out that ratio thing right?), and i mixed it with kenra moisturizing and used it just like any other conditioner--apply and clip it up while i wash my body. i'm gonna try it again tomorrow to see if it happens again...if i get fluffy hair again, i'm gonna have to use gel to control my curls/waves, geez....(i didn't last weekend because i let my hair "breathe" on weekends unless i go out)

LOL--I ate two teaspoons of honey when I first bought the bottle...and THEN i used it as an added bonus to my conditioner.

Bunniee,

How long did you leave it in?

About 30 minutes. Next time I'm going to leave it in for just a few minutes in the shower, and see how well that works.

Bunniee, have you tried molasses? And if yes, are the results similar?

Thanks

I've used blackstrap molasses as a deep treatment using Mahalialee's recipes, or just mixing it with conditioner. I don't think honey and molasses have quite the same effect on my hair. Honey can be used as a final rinse with warm water, but a BSM treatment needs to be followed by an acidic rinse for good results.

I use honey for deep conditioning sometimes, always with good results. I mixed it with banana and jojoba oil a few times, and once I mixed it with Kiehl's Lecithin and Coconut treatment. I really like it.

I tried some honey with conditioner this morning, left my hair really soft. Didn't completely stop the frizzies, had to use some gel but used a lot less than normal. I may try just mixing honey, conditioner and water and leaving it in rather than lightly rinsing.

Do you really use regular honey that super sticky stuff? in your hair? Do you have to warm it up first or anything? Just going  at the idea of putting something that sticky in my hair.

I'm really curious as to whether it is sticky too. http://www.click-smilie.de/sammlung0903/sprachlos/speechless-smiley-040.gif

The wedding is this Saturday so am going to experiment on Friday with this treatment to see if it helps to make my hair look super special. http://www.click-smilie.de/sammlung0903/lachen/laughing-smiley-007.gif

Oooooo, I love that dancing flower, Marion!

It reminds me of a dancing flower that my friend Renee had when we were younger (a toy flower, obviously!) - you'd press a button, and it would dance just like that! *Sigh*... oh the memories... :P

I'm going to give this honey treatment a try as well, but I too am a little concerned about the sticky factor... :?

Not sticky, I worried about that too. Today I diluted some cond. + honey with water and poured it in without rinsing, will see how my hair dries. No gel today either.

yep, just regular honey from the grocery store. I don't bother to warm up the honey before mixing it with conditioner, but that might be nice for a deep treatment. The honey/conditioner mix doesn't seem sticky at all to me. No bees have been buzzing around when I go out, either. ;)

Thank you for posting about this, bunniee! I mixed honey with Nexxus Ensure conditioner today, put on a plastic cap and left it on for about 10 minutes. It worked wonderfully! It greatly reduced my frizzies, and left my hair very soft and wavy. :D

I've used honey as a prewash deep conditioner with oils and egg before, but never after shampooing. Good tip! Thanks again for sharing. :DD

I'm going to try this too, I like that it doesn't involve boiling or straining or cleaning up lots of utensils afterwards LOL. What can I say, I'm lazy. :P

I'm off to try the honey conditioner mix right now. On wash days I have soooo much fun figuring out what recipes I'm gonna try. Wish I could figure out how to post pics.
