Those of you who take a Multi Vitamin.. what kind do you take?
I have taken Centrum for years, but about a year ago tried one from GNC and then I tried Natures Code from QVC for months. The GNC just made me sick and the Natures Code had Dong Quai in it that I am sensitive too. I am back to taking my Centrum now. Any suggestions on a good Multi I could try?

I guess I should have put this on the poll board.. oh well I am still learning :-)

I take True Balance multi-vitamin by Now Foods. It has everything, including extra biotin. You're supposed to take 2 capsules twice daily, so it is a bit less convenient than taking a single pill. I don't mind this, because the capsules are small & easier to swallow than giant horse pill vitamins. I've been able to eliminate some of the supplements I used to take in addition to a multi, so I'm actually taking fewer pills now. The cheapest place I've found to buy True Balance online is from Vitaglo:

http://shop.store.yahoo.com/vitaglo/trubalmulvit1.html

4 capsules contains:

5,000 IU vitamin A
240 mg vitamin C
400 IU vitamin E
60 mg thiamine
30 mg riboflavin
140 mg niacin
33 mg vitamin B-6
800 mcg folic acid
80 mcg vitamin B-12
3200 mcg biotin (yep, that's just over 3 milligrams)
120 mg pantothenic acid
186 mg calcium
240 mg magnesium
30 mg zinc
125 mcg selenium
1800 mcg copper
5 mg manganese
800 mcg chromium
100 mg potassium
gymnaema sylvestre extract (not sure what this is)
40 mg l-carnitine
30 mg choline
30 mg inositol
18 mcg vanadium

mg = milligram
mcg = microgram

The only other supplements I take besides the True Balance are a multi-mineral tablet and evening primrose capsules.

There are so many on the market. I take one that I found at Puritan's Pride online. It's called Time Release Mega Vita-Min. I like it because it's so complete and I don't have to take an additional B-Complex vitamin. I take enough vitamins as it is!

You can find all the info here:

You can probably find the exact same thing in the Vitamin World brand. I used to use the Women's Formula and liked it well. Now I just use the Green Source. I'll email you more about it, Skeeter.

I don't know how much help I'd be :( I use the Centrum too. It's BF freindly heeheehee. That way he doesn't think he's taking 'girly' vitamins. I probably should switch to a more specific multi, especially one with more Vit C, I hate chewing those extra C's when I'm coming down with something. (which I seem to do a lot lately)

So I'll be watching this thread with interest

~Skeeter~

I used to take Centrum A to Z

Now I take Formula VM-75 tablets from the Solgar brand. The “75” means that Formula VM-75 contains 75 mg of most of the B vitamins.
It is a high potency multivitamin with amino acid chelated minerals. It is taken once a day.

I like it because it is formulated without the use of artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. I’ve been taking this vitamin for a complete year now. There are so many good multi vitamin brands on the market though.

Good luck in finding something that will work for you and your pocket. I'm very sure the others will offer you more info.

Ooh, I'll be watching this, too.

Right now I'm taking an "Essentials" vitamin (generic version of a One-A-Dat product, I think) plus GNC NourishHair (non-Ultra). When I remember, that is.

I'd like something with a wider variety than just the "Essentials" which doesn't include a lot of minerals. But I want something that a) doesn't have 500% or 1000% of the US RDA of stuff, cause I figure that after a certain point, I'm just giving myself expensive urine and b) doesn't have iron. (Last time I took a supplement I had... er... iron-related problems.) Hard to find. I'll check out some of the links here when I'm not so sleepy...

My supplement focus is mainly on reducing my abnormal shedding of over 200 strands/day.

The multi I take is some cheap one-a-day generic drugstore home brand. It has 100% RDA of most vitamins and minerals. I take one to two extra zinc & B-complex capsules from the same company, which gets me to about 200-300% RDA for the hair stuff and 100% for the rest. Still not lots, but sufficient on the long run I guess, and it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.

On top of that I take about 2-3g vitC powder throughout he day, 4g MSM, 1g silica and some evening primrose oi.

Have been playing with larger biotin doses lately (like 5g/day), but I seem to shed more when I take this. Could be a coincidence with other factors, but I'm going on and off that stuff and watch the results closely.

If I won't be able to reduce my shedding to a normal rate within the next few months I'll get myself some high potency L-cystein capsules and try those - but I'd like to have tried everything else before that, because those capsules are expensive (something like $30/month). But the MSM seems to help nicely already.

.

I take a One-A-Day vitamin each day with a natural
herb called NATURE'S CALM.

http://www.oneaday.com/products/womens.cfm

Here are the stats for One-A-Day Women's formula:

Vitamin A
(500 IU as Beta Carotene)
2500 IU 50%
Vitamin C 60 mg 100%
Vitamin D 400 IU 100%
Vitamin E 30 IU 100%
Thiamin (B1) 1.5 mg 100%
Riboflavin (B2) 1.7 mg 100%
Niacin 10 mg 50%
Vitamin B6 2 mg 100%
Folic Acid 400 mcg 100%
Vitamin B12 6 mcg 100%
Pantothenic Acid 5 mg 50%
Calcium (Elemental) 450 mg 45%
Iron 18 mg 100%
Magnesium 50 mg 12%
Zinc 15 mg 100%

They provide a helpful spot on the page
which allows you to enter information, then
taking you to a page that lets you know
if you're receiving too much of any nutrient
if you are combining other vits with this one.

Generic version of Flintstones. ;-) I can't stand swallowing a pill each day, so I decided to try a chewable. I'm weird, I know. But, when I compared it to the back of the centrum tablets, it looked identical in terms of the amount of vitamins, wasn't any more expensive, and is something I'll actually take.

Probably not to helpful for what you're looking for, though.

Cheers,
Jonobie

My current multi is a house-brand knockoff of a Centrum vitamin that my grocery store puts out, then I supplement it with... gah, I think it's Nature Made or something like that, calcium-magnesium-zinc supplements.

I like this combo since it's fairly good about not ODing on the fat soluble vitamins, and my body seems to be able to absorb most of the vitamins & minerals. I have no idea what kind of effect it has on my hair... I'm more worried about keeping my body healthy, since sometimes I eat terribly badly and don't get enough of all the things I need.

8) I take Whole Source Women's from RiteAid if I'm taking them in the am, they have some herbal stuff in there too that keeps me awake if I take them at night. If I'm working that day, I take my vitamins at night and I take OneSource Power from Walmart. They both have gobs of vitamins and minerals and some herbs in them, and are affordable. :D

I take Centrum Performance because of its high B vitamin content and 300 mcg of Biotin.
