Any ideas on what this is, and what it is or was used for?

It's a cheese cutter. You put the loop of twine?string? around the cheese, and turn the handle. String tightens, cutting fermented milk product.
No - I wasn't going to say cut the .....out loud here. I know better. ;)

Let us know. In the meantime - who else has a guess to venture?

Yes! That's what I am almost positive it is.....I was wracking my brain because I thought I had seen something like that before. But it is for a whole wheel of cheese I believe?

Okay now, someone is going to have to Private message me and tell me what “Cut the cheese” means. My brother twice said that so I have ALWAYS wondered!!!!! I NEED TO KNOW!! I can’t ask him because he’s in Iowa. He’s tooooooooo far away!.

Hmm. Well, how would you explain it without being vulgar?

Okay...imagine, for a second, that you have some cheese. And it's a lovely, sealed block of cheese. So you cut the cheese carefully with a special, cheese-cutting knife - it's still nice cheese, but the seal is opened and the room is just FULL of the smell of it.

Now, think of something else you can do to fill a room with a smell that might upset people. That's cutting the cheese.

Elle - dear - that was more diplomatic than I could have ever been.
Well done.

Plainly speaking and not very diplomatically, lol, all it means is to naturally pass gass. However you know how boys are. ;)

I live with three of them, sometimes they actually have contests on who can do the longest or loudest. :? :x

I hope this answered your question. *smiles sweetly* ;)

Eeek! Quickly, now, to clear up a couple of things -

Firstly, I'm not Elle. Elle is someone else, still called Elle, and still decidedly on this board.

Secondly, I'm a boy (or man, perhaps?), but perhaps a more diplomatic one than the ones you've just described...

Oh geez......just seeing your icon (the elephant) and you going "EeeK!" has me falling off my chair! Lol!

Ok, just to let you know, you probably will get that alot, people at times in their effort to conserve time ( ;) ) will shorten a name/login. Yours shortened is Elle. Hence, that is most likely why they called you Elle. :) But I appreciate you clearing that up, and I always enjoy having more boys/men to post with. :)

Amazon, I have to chuckle that under your writing you have a quote that begins, "Fame is a vapor..." :D :D :D

OKay ladies,
I gotcha about the meaning of "cut the cheese"
I thought it would be something worse. LOL!

And Amazon, I know what you mean about the fart knockers called boys.
I grew up with three brothers around me. They tortured me! :( They would slam this poor little girl on the ground and make me smell their stinky socks. :x

I don't hang out on the Friendship board too much, but I'm glad I picked this thread to visit. It definitely gave me my chuckles for the day!! :D :D :D

Hey, Ellephant -- welcome!! Yes, we shorten names around here. Partly because it's easier than writing out someone's full name when we're in a hurry, and partly because it's just our way of creating an endearing nickname. We do it out of love and caring, though sometimes we can end up with a variety of odd sounding nicknames -- but our intentions are honorable! :D So, I hope you don't mind if you get called "Elle" occasionally. :D It's great to have another guy around here! Tell us about your hair!
