My Target just got in a whole new group of Goody brand hair things (in with the brushes and combs) in addition to all there other stuff in the accessories department. As Karen Marie has posted in the past, Target has a lot of neat hair stuff.

Anyway, I got a Goody Brand Fakearre. It is metal and looks like a Medium Innovation. The obvious difference is that it has tiny teeth along one edge of the beak. What do you think about the possible detriment to my hair? I consider my hair to be of average fragility.

Hmmm, I can't imagine that working since I sliiiiide the Innovation in to hold, say, a french roll.

I guess if you used it on a style that required you to only slide the side without the teeth in and then use the side with the teeth to clamp down, it would work.

Yep I agree - you'd have to use it differently than a regular Ficcare.
I once bought a plastic Fakkare with teeth along the rim of the lower half - it didn't occur to me until I came home and tried it that there's no way I could slide it into my hair without causing damage.
Teeth on the upper half should be okay as long as they're not sharp and you choose a style where you close the beak over the hair, not slide it in. Same goes for clips with heavily jewelled tops.

what *I* do with those (and I have some like that) is to take a pair of needle-nosed pliers and snap off the teeth way down at the base of them. My hair (fragile and fine) doesn't go INTO that crevice, so there's not really any need to even smooth the "stump-lets" that are left after breaking off its teeth. Then I just use that puppy like a real Ficcare and slide 'er in.

HTH, and I LOVE those fakes. I esp love the mid-sized Scunci ones, two for $2 or so. Great bargain, and sadly they are the right size for my pathetic little bun....

You explained it well; I just didn't READ it well!!! I believe that if the teeth are SMOOTH, you should be Okay. Heck, the Ficcare Dolphin has some formidable-looking teeth on it, and the Maximus has a row of small teeth in IT, and no one seems to bat an eye at that. As long as they're smooooooooooooooooooth......

Sorry to be so thick-headed and miss the whole METAL part of the post.

If they're sharp, get rid of it. I bought a fake metal one at a kiosk at the mall and altho it held the hair great, the teeth I'm now convinced were sawing off my hair. I threw it away as soon as I suspected that. The Ficcares have changed my hair life, no question, and I'd recommend you just save up and get a real one, why risk it.
