View Full Version : GM pilgrimages: How often do you go?

I've gone twice to the GM salon and have used their products exclusively for 5 months. My hair likes it, so I'm a GM groupie. :)

I know GM recommends doing the salon treatment 4 times a year, and I'm sure IF we could those of us that are on the GM bandwagon would, but what I'm interested in knowing is how often do you go and still maintain healthy beautiful hair?

I want the best of both worlds: great hair for less money. Since it is a 5 hour drive and $95 cost for me I don't want to waste my time and money.

I wish they would sell the 1hr treatment.

I think the frequency depends on the condition of your hair. The first time I went ever, I was told to go 4x/yr. Then again, my hair was really fried from dyeing and I had breakage at the point where I used to fasten my poiny tail with elastics, of course.

After I really began caring for my hair and went back, I was told to go 2x/yr. (which is what I do now). I do my S&D missions as needed (which is now 1x/3-4 months) and adhere to the damp bunning regimen.

This time around, when I went and told them that I hadn't been since December and had not had a trim, the woman was very surprised. She hardly found splits. I might even get away with 1x/yr., but frankly, I just LOVE the pampering.

So...if you're thinking about going 2x/yr. I think that is a very good game plan ;)

I picked once a year, because that is about what it has averaged out to (something like 1.5 times per year ;) ).

I've never gone more than twice in one year.

My first trip was Aug 2002. The second was June 2003.

I think I'll go back right before school starts again at the end of Aug.

I have a difficult time fitting it in on the weekends, so the summer seems to be the time I'll definately get there.

Anyone want to meet me at Enchantress in August ?;)

Hey... there's no option for "never"... :)

I would love to go at least once, just to see how it is. Alas, it's a 5-hour plane trip to the closest one, and I don't have that kind of money to spend on my hair! :D

Wishing there were more GM salons...

same here (never been). The nearest one is probably New York City (I'm assuming there IS one in NYC), where I've never been. I should go there sometime...go clothes shopping, makeup shopping, hair supply shopping - the works (it is only a 6 hour drive afterall).

Rainee - let me know when you're ready to go.

We'll make a meeting of it. Dweam??? Amazon???

After GM we could go meet Mark and Veronica and see some of Mark's paintings.

A NY- LHC meeting? Who else is in NY?

I'd like a half hour diversion to Sephora......

cheers

They do, I think! :)

Check out Grace's post on Fox's Long Hair Loom.

I'll dig for it, if you don't find it... 8)

The NYC is the main salon, I think....the one Dweam went to.

Btw, Rainee - I love your sig pic! Very "Medieval maiden"!

They will sell you the 12 minute, but not the 1 hour condtioner. The one hour conditioner is for "in salon" only. You can leave the 12 min condtioner on for an hour to get a really deep treatment.

Grace said that they would in fact sell you the blue goop, as I understand it... not just the 12-minute. I think they put it in a jar or something... at any rate, please check the Long Hair Loom for details... I'll try to dig that post up... here it is...

I hope it is OK to quote Grace here, in case the link doesn't work properly:

"2nd Street Salon in Encinitas, CA. phone number: 760.753.4424 Ask for either Terri (receptionist) or Valerie (GM stylist).

I happened upon the 1 hour treatment by accident. I was looking for a different GM product and the receptionist read me what they had available. They were out of it when I went to buy it, but they have more now and will gladly send it by mail.

It sells by the ounce, $6.50/ounce in 2oz containers. They sell it in 2oz containers for $13.50 (I know the money amounts are a discrepency, but those are the prices they told me).

Remember for the 1 hour treatment to work it must be done under heat for 1 hour, then it must set for 3 days meaning no water or other products on the hair for those 3 days. The exact heat temp that GM salons use is 108*, if that is any help to you.

GM washes the hair first with the blue shampoo (clarifying), then parts the hair into very small sections and slathers the treatment on, then piles it high onto the head. He wraps the head in wax paper before wetting the heat cap on.

For me, the treatment is incredible. I did my own non-GM heat treatments at home once per week, but they always lasted only a few days. The 1 hour treatment lasts about 4 months on my hair.

Enjoy!

Hi all,

I've been reading the boards, but not posting b/c of time constraints... looking for a teaching position for Sept., trying to buy my first car (used of course!) and dealing w/ some medical probs. But I find reading all of your posts so relaxing at the end of the day... as you can see by the time of this message!

I've gone twice to the GM salon in NYC... on my first visit I had the whole 1-hour treatment and roll-set, and I truly felt like a princess for the day! I posted my experience to the old LHL site. The 2nd time was just for a trim and dusting... but again, it made me feel fantastic. I feared that I needed at least 2" taken off the ends, but Harsha, the hairdresser who attended to me on both occasions, took off only 1/2" and said that my ends were healthy! :)

I originally went in February for my birthday, and then the following January b/c I couldn't wait one month longer. I'm saving $$$ right now, so I prob won't go again until next Jan. or Feb... BUT... if you're planning a NYC get-together, let me know... I'm in Middle Village, Queens, and the salon is just a hop on the train for me! Even if I don't get my hair done, I can always use some more 12-min. conditioner!

As for my routine, I've been using GM's cream shampoo, cream rinse and 12-minute conditioner (about 2x a month) for a few months now consistently and my hair is very shiny, soft, and looking better than it was a few months ago. I wash every other day, sometimes I wait every 2 days, but I have a very oily scalp and haven't mastered scalp washes yet. Sometimes I rotate w/ Pantene Pro-V for Fine Hair/Volume shampoo, but still use the GM cream rinse. I just love the way it makes my hair feel.

Hope to see you all if we can schedule a GM meeting!

ooh. yeah. I'd have to find out when Mike would be up to a trip to New York (since he'd be driving..I'm not sure I want to test my car on a 6-hr drive..she's only gone like 40 minutes at a time at the most). I'd love to stop at a Philosophy and maybe Prescriptives makeup counters. And I have a friend who'd probably love to come too. Yey

I've never been. There's one right here in London, but sadly I have no money in order to treat myself. :( Would love to go one day, though! When I'm finished with studenthood I'll probably trot along and have the nicest long hair in the city 8)
