View Full Version : Strange hair
MJ March 30th, 2006, 05:43 PM Sometimes after combing I find a weird looking hair. My hair is straight but this hair is like a snake, very wavy or wiery maybe. Not sure how to describe it really. The waves are small and close together. Looks somethign like this --> ~~~~~~~ . Does anyone have any idea why this has happened to these hairs? Has anyone else noticed something like this?
artemis March 30th, 2006, 05:50 PM If I take a strand of hair and run my fingernail along it, it will make a really tight curl (like curling a ribbon with the back of a pair of scissors). Maybe your comb is giving some kind of similar effect to your hair? Just a guess.
DoubleWurly March 30th, 2006, 05:56 PM I've got no idea why that's happening, sorry I can't help, but....

That's so cool artemis! Now I'm obsessed with doing that. I hope the hairs return to normal after I get them wet.

I was doing an S&D mission today and I found 2 strands like that! My hair is wavy and I found two really wirey strands that was of a different texture than my hair. I first thought it may be a strand that was stretched too much and then bounced like that, but I traced it all the way up and it was from the root.. and it seemed to grow out like that! So I just pulled it out instead hoping the new growth will be like my normal texture.
I have no idea why this is... I hope someone knows!
Maybe it is just an odd random variety that just happens... I dunno.. kinda like when you have a white hair I guess?
Hairizona March 30th, 2006, 09:27 PM Ever since high school I have found wirey black to dark brown wirey hairs mixed in with my naturaly blond to dark blond hair. My mother said that she always found them too and she pulled them out.I think this really has something to do with genetics and the migration of the Romany Gypsy tribes and mixing into the northern European cultures hundreds of years ago. There is also the mixing of the moors with the southern European cultures...Basically there has been mixing of most all races on the planet,so the result of this will be seen in hair, eye color, and skin type--more in some people than others.

HA! I hope they go back to normal too. I never thought about that! I guess if I wanted to give myself a "perm," I could go through and do every single hair like that. It would just take a loooooong time :bluebiggr
ChloeDharma March 31st, 2006, 03:17 AM Can i recommend not doing the thing where you run your fingernail along your hair...i'm thinking that sounds quite traumatic for the hair, scraping away at the cuticle etc!! I do it with shedded hairs though sometimes if i'm bored! hehehe ;)
ringuhair March 31st, 2006, 03:26 AM I have quite a few of those more wiry hairs. Granted, my hair is wiry as a whole :) but those specific strands have very tight waves, as if they were crimped from root to tip. I can tell this is not the result of mechanical damage when I inspect them closely, or at least I don't think so. I just assumed that, along with the unusual pigmentation of my retinal epithelium (sp?), this comes from the part of my family tree I can't account for :D
cuddledumplin March 31st, 2006, 04:35 AM Yeah, I think we all have those. Yours might be due to getting scraped while combing or something, but I find a lot hairs that are thicker or even a different colour than my other hairs. I think it's normal. Each hair is diffferent, so some are going to be really weird.

-judy- March 31st, 2006, 04:58 AM I find wiry/curly hairs every now and then, they pop out and look quite different than my normal straight hair. They are usually quite short and have definitely grown that way. I think someone on the board described them as "head pubes", but I can't remember where I read it.
klokanek March 31st, 2006, 05:04 AM I'm with cuddledumplin. My wiry, curly, coarser hairs are black; the rest is dark brown, wavy, fine. I have few of them, but then I have hairs of all colors on my head! I think it's perfectly normal to have different kinds of hair, much like a blond man with a red beard. I'm like a tabby cat, I guess. :)
So never fear!
