Well, justy's thread on her cousin's entry in the remodel contest got me dreaming. I go through this every year, it's one of the symptoms of spring fever for me.

We are actually planning to do a very cheap, simple facelift on our bathroom this spring. We have been putting this off for about 3 years, and we can afford it now about as well as we could at any time before (which is, not), but we really need something fresh and new and with baby coming I'd really like the extra room.

Right now our bathroom is in simple beige, gold and oak. Beige walls, oak toilet lid (until we replaced it with a cheapie) and oak cabinets. Gold embellished wall border near ceiling in pearl-on-white. It's nice, but boring. Plus I don't think they used special paint for high-moisture areas because it is flaking off everywhere and the wall border is peeling up.

Also, there is a hall closet which bumps into the bathroom. We have looked at it carefully and it would be a simple task to change the front of the closet from the hallway to the bath. We would be able to take back the 6 sq. feet the closet is robbing from the bathroom (this in a room that is only 5'x6', not including the tub) and have a closet in the bathroom, instead of just a tiny little under-sink cabinet.

I was visiting another forum I look at and found this thread (http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/cottage/gal120658504120.html?19) which gave me the inspiration for what to do with the decorating scheme.

For now, we will be keeping the current toilet and tub. We've gone to Menard's and found out we can do the walls and floor for less than $100. (The floor has to be done because whoever did the previous remodel left a 3" gap between the tub and the sink cabinet and the floor there is in very rotten shape. It's also peeling up along the entire length of the bathtub.) We will be getting a pillar-style sink and a bi-fold door for the new closet. The top part of the walls is going to be a slightly smokier blue than what the remodel shown in the link above used. It is Dutchboy "Blue Platform". For the paneling on the lower part of the wall, we are going with a white wood-grain look wainscoting. The floor will be vinyl tile which looks like earth-tone ceramic tile.

In all we hope to spend less than $200 on this "mini-remodel". Later, we will probably have our tub done by Re-Bath and get a new toilet. (Toilets made in 1954 are not the most efficient. I think it has like a 3 gallon tank. And it runs all the time.)

I have dreams in other parts of the house, but I will save them for another post.

What is your nightmare area? What do you wish you could do to remodel it? Please share!

The bathroom walls are peeling and the ceiling in the kitchen below the tub looks awful. I think that's something that *needs* addressing.

But cosmetically, I'd like to give my kitchen a face lift. The appliances we bought new at the time we moved in (3-4 years ago) so I'm still happy there. But the cupboard facing could use replacing and the floor (we did a new peel-n-stick linoleum tile on move-in day) would be awesome with real ceramic tiles. Oh, the joy of cleaning *real* floors!
