View Full Version : How many split ends do you have? Sapphira July 14th, 2003, 12:59 PM I hate them! And they are all over my hair! How many other people suffer from them? Lexy July 14th, 2003, 01:32 PM I was actually just noticing last night that I have no split ends at all. It has been a year (July 24) since my last haircut. That makes me really happy! Sorry- I don't mean to brag... I used to have lots and lots and lots (sun-in is BAD!!!) Rachel July 14th, 2003, 04:24 PM I've gone from "a lot" when I first came to LHC, to "some". I can't believe the difference... and can't really think of what I'm doing differently. I had a good trim a while back, but I generally get trims every year. Could be it's the conditioner, or the fact that I'm no longer using hot water to wash my hair? Teacherbear July 14th, 2003, 05:19 PM I picked A lot, but if I make sure to trim them regularly I can just about manage them. But when I DON"T trim regularly (S&D missions) then I DO have a ton of them!!! But I consider a "split" to be any type of damage that I know will either turn into a split in a matter of days or will cause my hair to tangle. Specifically, I'm thinking about hairs that are crimped at some bizarre angle after being freed from a knot. But . . . all i have to say to those without splits is . . . . . .http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/eviltongue.gif  Ya'll know I love you, but JEEZ . . . . I'm jealous! ;) Twitch July 14th, 2003, 05:43 PM i voted "a lot" but im lazy and dont look for them, so i could be wrong. (see no evil... ;) ) also i hate going cross-eyed with a pair of scissors and three miserable twisted strands of hair. :suspect: but dont get me wrong, i have damage. bah. Sasha July 14th, 2003, 06:29 PM I have NO split ends...however, I can't say I rarely *get* them since it's only been 3 months since major chop!! snippet July 14th, 2003, 06:32 PM I cheated and said I have a lot but I can manage them with trims (I think that's what it said) How was that cheating? Well I don't really manage them. I did do S&D missions but I got too compulsive. Now I don't worry about them at all and make sure I get a trim every 4 months. epiphanee July 14th, 2003, 09:21 PM I check for splits every week, but thankfully, so far I have none. It's been 11 months since my last hair-cut and I've been oiling regularly. Hope this keeps up.... Grenwich July 15th, 2003, 03:49 PM I do a major S&D once a month or so. The rest of the month - I just don't see them.... Gren Karen July 16th, 2003, 05:57 AM i voted a lot. but i don't do S&D missions except maybe once a month at most, so maybe it's only some. I used to be a mess, every hair split. What I attribute the decrease in splits is the following: better shampoos and conditioners for MY hair (for me, that is mostly cone free) more gentle combing with my seamfree comb. using hair friendly toys, especially my Ficcares taking vitamins a little more regularly. i never did much in the past. Cornelia Hale July 16th, 2003, 09:19 AM I only have very little. If I get them at all, I get them in the front in what used to be my bangs when I was younger. angelic July 16th, 2003, 12:10 PM I voted for the first option, I have tons and tons of split ends and dusting does not seem to really resolve the issue. The thing is though, I am not too concerned with my hair having split ends. I have had them for as long as I remember. As long as my hair continues to look healthy and I continue to care for it as best I can, I will not worry about my splits. If I had my ideal hair, I would have no splits whatsoever, but alas that is not the case and I do not want to dwell on things I cannot change! Take care, Angela Anne July 16th, 2003, 11:58 PM I voted rarely if ever get them. I think the last time I even looked for any was last year and there were next to none. Violeta July 17th, 2003, 02:52 PM Right now, NONE , absolutely none and I am really happy about it but then again my hair just reached my shoulders so it’s not that long. :D Carolyn February 23rd, 2005, 10:45 AM I said a lot. I work on them almost daily. It's a great multi tasking thing to do while watching tv and/or being on the computer. I have my little snippy scissors right here by my laptop. If I work at it consistantly I can keep even with them. Split ends suck. hjlnal February 24th, 2005, 04:39 AM just seen only a few bookwyrm February 24th, 2005, 05:00 AM I said I rarely get them. But that's because my hair is still pretty short! If I remember correctly, when my hair was longer I had a few more but never suffered with them too badly. My hair seems pretty tough. kirstin February 24th, 2005, 09:06 AM I have a couple here or there and cut them out. Kirstin AmberBella February 24th, 2005, 09:13 AM Opting not to vote right now because I just got virtually every strand of my hair cut and have NO splits. Let's see how long that lasts. flaming bunny February 24th, 2005, 09:53 AM i voted for the second option...but at the moment i have tonnes of the little blighters cos i havent had a S&D session in aaaaaaaaaaaaages. my hairs getting really tangly at the mo....must....cut....splits :hatchet: sevedra February 28th, 2005, 04:15 PM I have been on a massive S&D mission since joining this community, but I am not really finding any splits. I don't seem to have hair that splits much. I guess I am super super lucky :) cwalker0 February 28th, 2005, 04:21 PM I've never found more than a couple splits, ever! I wonder if it has to do with using Pantene though, I've heard it coats the split ends, but they are still there. I'll report back once I switch conditioners! SunCat April 17th, 2005, 01:57 PM I rarely ever get split ends  Tree April 17th, 2005, 02:14 PM I voted some, but manageable. If I do S&D on a regular basis it will get to be not many at all. Currently I'm trying to catch up from about a year and a half of neglect. LadyOttoline April 17th, 2005, 02:31 PM I said a lot. I work on them almost daily. It's a great multi tasking thing to do while watching tv and/or being on the computer. I have my little snippy scissors right here by my laptop. If I work at it consistantly I can keep even with them. Split ends suck. Totally agree with you Carolyn, I like that sort of multi-tasking too! Although I think I don't have that many split ends any more. But I still like to get them whenever I see them, so I have my scissors on my desk all the time. Wanderlust April 17th, 2005, 02:39 PM I think my hair is immune to split ends. When I was younger and had long hair, everyone would talk about split ends and how they were bad and I'd look at my hair and see nothing, and be completely confused about what they were talking about. I've never, not once, seen a split end on my own hair. I didn't figure out what they were until I was doing my mom's hair and saw them. And when I had hair extensions. OMG, I've never seen so many split ends in my life!!! That hair is sh**. Every single strand of hair, it seemed like, had a split a half inch long. So anyway, not many splits for this girl. :tealbiggr trollkjerring April 17th, 2005, 09:25 PM A lot! But I started the S&D only a few weeks ago and I think I find less splits every time I look for them, but I do it almost daily. trollkjerring Alva April 18th, 2005, 01:50 AM I have a lot, but I can manage like this. I do need to keep up with regular S&D missions, else I think it would be a mess really. I didn't do S&D for like two years inbetween, so I still have a lot to cut out. Jessie April 18th, 2005, 06:24 AM lots....but if I "dust around" almost every day they stay under control. and yes, I agree...split ends are HORRID!!!:wail:  :nono:  :puke: ha, did I make my point? *grin* the reason I hate them so much, is they make my hair look so frizzy and thin and nasty... the kind of long hair that looks icky. (it looks like it isn't cared for at all!) they aren't as bad as they used to be...thankfully!! kelly-j November 15th, 2006, 01:21 AM I have never seen split ends in my hair. I go to the hairdresser every six months and she have never seen then either. akka naeda November 15th, 2006, 02:32 AM I don't get that many, I trim my hair every three months which may have something to do with it. I do wonder whether putting my hair up encourages the shaft to split as the hair is twisted, as since I have been doing this I've found more splits in the length, where there is like a hole in the hair, but the ends themselves are as split free as ever. ChicO November 15th, 2006, 02:57 AM Right now, I have a lot! I need to trim at least 5 cm off. :wail: I'm trying to wait til January, but today I thought, there is not A SINGLE Strand healthy. So I went and bought Coconut Oil ... :waltz: BBGrrl November 15th, 2006, 07:49 PM Not many. I do a S&D when I find one and rarely take off more than 10. Once I found 20 but that was on some badly damaged hair that is now gone. Angelica November 16th, 2006, 01:00 PM I voted the second option. I started snipping them off individually before joining this site, but last night when looking for them I was almost disappointed I didn't find too many, only about two, but I can't reach the back very well. I'm going to have a hunt round before bed time! amz1998 November 16th, 2006, 02:28 PM A Lot! I do an S&D at least once a month. I guess it just seems to be a lot. I hate them! Hopefully, when my grows longer, nobody will notice them. tehe Narcissus November 16th, 2006, 03:29 PM I have a few, especially on the back of my head. Pre-LHC, almost every strand was split or damaged. After some extensive S&D's, I still find about 20 or so split ends whenever I have time to look. lilmisspicky126 November 16th, 2006, 03:30 PM I never really get split ends. Sarah November 16th, 2006, 05:00 PM I voted lots, though I've never felt like I could manage them. I'll S&D once in awhile, but it doesn't seem to make a huge difference, there are always more of them no matter how many I snip. The only reason I voted lots and not absolutely loads is that I chopped 8 inches last month, and that did get rid of the worse of them, though there are still some in the hairs that don't quite reach the ends. It's a lot better than it was before the cut, when I really did have absolutely loads. I hadn't trimmed in a year, which I'm sure had something to do with it, though a lot of them weren't quite at the very ends. But I chopped so much it still took out quite a few of those. beauxchev November 16th, 2006, 09:02 PM unfortunately i had to answer "absolutely loads" :( Sara November 17th, 2006, 02:17 AM If I don't do S&D regularly, then I have alot, especially along the hairline. As long I keep up S&D, they aren't much of a problem for me. Nightshade November 17th, 2006, 04:58 AM I have enough to make me unhappy about them, but I do frequent trims. The stuff at the ends is the last 10 inches or so of chemical fried crap, hence the splits. Once I get all that trimmed out it's all henna hair from there. On my layers which are henna-only there's not a split to be seen. :rockerdud breezefaerie November 17th, 2006, 09:08 AM I voted no splits but my hair is just to my shoulders. I don't think it's long enough to really have the opportunity to split yet! Plus since I joined LHC I have been taking such better care of my hair, I hope to stay in the no-split zone! harley mama November 17th, 2006, 05:33 PM I said a few but I was just checking out my ends and I couldn't find even 1 split end. I am sooo HAPPY. :hollie: My last trim was in June. So far, so good. dearladydisdain November 17th, 2006, 05:52 PM Tons. I S&D but it's a neverending battle. I'm not sure what I'm doing to cause them, but right now I'm blaming them on my fine hair. lil_irish_angel November 18th, 2006, 04:25 PM I answered very few and far between. Its actually in really good condition..last trim waas in the begining of september and even then it was only a 1/2in trim very four to six months. It might be that I have good well water and no chemicals like in city water...who knows..I think I get more of them in summer than i do in the winter. Elizabeth November 18th, 2006, 06:48 PM I’m relieved to see I’m not the only one here that wrestles with split ends! My hair has increasingly become healthier since coming to LHC. SMTs have made a huge difference in my hair. Even so, I just cut off 2 ½ inches of old damage and have probably another four that will have to go over time. Hopefully the splits will improve as the old layers grow out and the old damage is cut off. HerbalAnnie November 18th, 2006, 06:57 PM My hair isn't long enough to see all the ends, but since I actually started looking last May, I found one. Considering how hard I am on my hair, I find that remarkable. sapphire-o November 18th, 2006, 07:41 PM No splits yet. I haven't trimmed my hair since I started growing it out. I'm hoping to grow to my goal length without them. cassie_g November 19th, 2006, 06:33 PM I have a lot but I only randomly cut them off. |
