View Full Version : Who is welcome here?

Kati75
July 14th, 2003, 07:45 AM
Just wondering especially what the reeeeeeally long-haired people here think... Feel free to specify your vote in a post! By the way, I voted for the second option - including people who have reached their goal, OF COURSE! This goes for all the growing options, I'd say. Confusing, huh?

why everyone, no?

those that want to grow, those that are supportive of someone that might be growing, those that might want more information for a later time in their life when they can grow longer, etc.

*thinks a moment on how to put this diplomatically*

I think it's been well overstated that EVERYONE is welcome here. The only exceptions would be those that are intent on harrassing others or flooding the boards with inappropriate messages geared to insult others or solely advertise products or post photographs of graphic sexual content, etc. (I think it is clear these posters are usually not welcomed on most boards)

I don't see the point to this poll. I hope you don't take this the wrong way bcz I don't mean to offend, but it just seems off in some way IMO.

I voted "everyone". One doesn't need long hair to be a long hair lover and supporter.

The only people I wouldn't welcome here are trolls (obviously) who only want to stir up trouble.

Dweamgoil, I can tell you the "point to this poll" as you put it: I'm planning to not grow my hair any longer but stay at bra-strap length at least until my bangs have caught up or maybe even forever and I was wondering whether those very very long-haired ones would still want me to post here. After all, being afraid of people not tolerating that she cut her hair back is one of the reasons Feye isn't coming here anymore, and I miss her much, so I was wondering if maybe something has happened to make her think she might not be welcome here anymore. Also, I was wondering whether nobody would be interested in my answers etc anymore if my hair won't be longer than bs. I didn't mean to say this, but: That's all there is to this poll. ;)

I voted everyone but don't even have long hair yet
so I figured I should mention that for the statistic. ;)

I hope to have long hair again which is why I
visit this board, to try to get pointers for healthy
care and growth. I come back because people seem
to be accepting of me even though I am still
in the "growing back" stage (my hair was cut off because
of damage). Nobody has yet said to me that I don't
belong, although I often can't participate in
the discussions if they concern things that I can't
yet do with my hair. That doesn't bother me as long
as they don't mind me being here otherwise. :)

I like trolls :DD

I find trolls and trolling to be very entertaining. I also heartily approve of inappropriatness - there is nothing that will get a thread going faster than someone snarking someone off ;)

Now to get serious Kati - there are 400+ members here many whom post almost daily. I don't think it's fair to tar everyone with the same brush. Feye got a ton of support for her posts and haircut and you have always gotten a ton of support. I miss Feye too. I also think that what a few people might have said to piss you/her/whomever off is not reasonable to hold against the whole board and essentially punish and desert even your friends for...g

BTW - you forgot "Anyone who likes cheese"

Oh come on, guys, I didn't mean any harm and I certainly don't mean to punish anyone for things I don't know anything about. I could have put the whole thing differently like: How long is long enough to be here? I mean, how long do you think is long? By being welcome here I didn't mean allowed to come here but more like welcome to give advice. I know everyone can learn stuff and have fun here, come on!!! Oh stupid language problems... :( *gettting the dictionary out starting to learn my vocabulary better*
PS: What's that about the cheese??? :?

I vote everyone.

Trolls are fun, they are a perfect target for us to flame and direct our pent up anger. You don't have to read in between the lines of a troll to understand either. :silly: And I get to read some great responses from y'all - stuff I wish I'd said and will write down for the next time.

Why a person goes away is their choice. With the internet and forums most people will join, stay for a few months and then leave. Others will stay only until their questions or their goal has been reached. Then some of us will stay for years :)

I've joined so many forums (computer related, genealogy, and otherwise ;) ) that if I didn't quit some I'd be deep in the matrix. I have to judge and decide which ones get my attention and are meeting my needs.

I like cheese. I think I may become a mouse when I grow up.

I haven't voted yet, but I would vote everybody who is willing to play nice. And the thing with trolls is this: I have often found it more amusing than I should when a troll shows up and I watch this group "close ranks". Gee whiz, that's a HOOT!

And I do wish you'd add the "cheese" option on the poll. I'd vote twice! "Everyone" and "Cheese". ;)

Kati, I read no malice in your question. I think it could possibly help those who maybe feel like they can't/shoudln't contribute because they don't have KM longlocks. Heck, *I* wouldn't be able to contribute because I don't have THICK hair. We all could find ways to exclude ourselves because we're not (fill in the blank) as the next one. I mean, even KM couldn't contribute because her hair's straight, and how's she really gonna help the curlies? (purely hypothetical example, and said with tongue in cheek) I think that the cheese-eaters have something to offer EVERYONE, though, if we'll only listen to the Cheese-heads....... :D

I voted "everyone" - everyone who is interested in long hair for one reason or another, although our focus seems to be exchange between long haired / growing long individuals rather than long hair admirers (like on TLHS). But I feel that short haired long hair lovers like Mike for instance are very welcome here as well.

I definitely won't want to grow my hair to the floor, even if I genetically could (which I can't) - and when I decide to keep my hair at a certain length eventually I'm quite certain I'll still be welcome here.

Actually I don't know if the reason why Feye left was because she felt uncomfortable here after her cut, and I'm not sure how you got the idea that this board might be only for those that are growing longer all the time ...

I was also quite surprised to read that some feel a competitive spirit here - maybe I'm blessed with ignorance, but all I personally pick up here most of the time is the desire to support each other and share information :)

Hey! I like cheese too.
LOL LJ - you cheater  , you can't vote twice! The thingamabobbie won't let you! Na-Na-Na-Na-Na :D .
So - if I like salmon does that mean I can grow up to be a bear? :D

 seriously.
Kati - I think everyone is welcome, and everyone's advice is welcome, but only the person asking for advice can decide as to said advice's usefulness and applicability - so, be that advice from a person with short hair or hair to their knees - if the advice is good, who cares how long or short the hair is?
There's enough support here that we could probably put Playtex out of the market if we could figure out how to get it into our bras. ( pardon me gents - I don't know who makes jockstraps)!
Feye was a nice person, and as our community rides the flux, we can only hope she and the others who've not been about much lately will show back up.
I didn't vote. I'm like that ya know.

I think I agree with every single thing she said!!!!

I voted everybody. I meant anyone who is interested in healthy hair, at any length!

I think SOME trolls are entertaining (and YES I bust my guts laughing at some of the responses this community comes up with for/to Trolls), but some are just plain ol pains in the patooty!

I don't like it when people come here and want to just take our photos and/or solicit photos. That creeps me out!

Otherwise, I'm ok with members being: long haired, short haired, growing longer, cutting shorter, staying the same, perming, coloring/dying, henna=ing, talking, lurking, cheese=eating members! ;)

.Personally, I don't give a rat's banana what length hair
anyone here has, if they want hair growing advice or just someone
to talk to, I would like to think that we have hundreds upon
hundreds of members who do not have a judgmental attitude about
length when giving support of any kind to others who may come to this board.

You can be bald and more than welcome!

Some ask advice about hair.
Some give it.
Some of our members are here for the camaraderie.
Some to raise a little cane and make us laugh.

We are a community. There is no requirement here
other than registration and common courtesy.

If it were my say (and it is not) I would want to see people with an interest in hair! It's easier to say what I wouldn't want, but what I wouldn't want is not here, which is why I am (hehe... did that make sense?)

What I wouldn't want to see is people who openly question the super-longs for their desire to have longer-than-classic-length hair...

I wouldn't want to see pressure to cut (advice to cut when hair is damaged or causing headaches is not included... I'm talking about Maury Povich/ salon pressure.)...

I wouldn't want to see solicitations of hair for charities... I believe by now most of us are well aware of what we can do with our hair should we decide to cut...

I want to continue to feel welcome here... after all, there aren't a lot of places where we can relax, let our hair down (hee!), and not be treated as freaks/selfish/odd nonconformists. It's nice to find others like me.

I hesitated to answer this thread because I wouldn't want to make anyone feel unwelcome... especially since it's not my board and not my say.

alright, i put my vote wrong - i voted for "Everyone who wants to grow their hair longer than it is now - no matter how long the goal length is"
because there was no option for "everybody who loves hair"
and i thought "everyone" included those  :x :x :x :x  advocate kind of people.

count my vote for "everyone who loves hair". and WOWW!! you've reached your goal length, kati, thats wonderful. :D biggg hugggss :D i'm so happy for you. ::dancing the happy dance::

now that you've reached your goal length, its just not fair that you would want to leave us :( or even think that we would not want you here. :(

I want to say....

A person is welcome if at least one of the following applies:

Like long hair
Want to grow their hair longer
Want to learn how to care for their already long hair(or spouse's/relative's/friend's)

Kati, thanks for posting this. I sometimes wonder if I belong here because my hair is only bra-strap length, and may not grow much longer. It's also thin, not blunt cut, or free of splits. As for advice, I look for people who have hair that's similar to mine in texture and length, because they often have similar needs & problems. There is usually good advice to be gotten from people in all different growth stages, however.

I truly enjoy seeing hair pics posted here, but if I thought my hair had to be like some of the lovely ladies here to be 'good enough', I would have shaved my head by now. I like my hair long too much to cut it, even if it doesn't measure up to what others looks like.

Accolady summed it up nicely for me! :DD

I am in the process of growing my hair long (it's approaching bra strap when straight..but needs a ways to go before it hits that when CURLY! *sigh*) but anyway...back on track..

I  this community because not only can i learn about how to care for my hair, and get through the bumps in the road, but.. i'm making really great friends here, who although when I first joined didn't know me from a pile of beans, welcomed me into this online family, and have always helped me out, and I hope I can repay them by doing the same.

There are some communites where you just NEVER feel like you belong, or like anyone gives a rats butt if you are a part of the forum community or not... this is not one of those, and even though lately some have been beeaatchy (which i'm apparently FINALLY reading THOSE posts... :no) in general, everyone is super nice and is more than willing to help when they can, or raise a little ruckus and get us all laughing.

So here's to EVERYONE (cept those who are just out to cause problems.. stupid trolls! more like buttheads if you ask me...) being welcome REGARDLESS of hair length or amount of hair!

Pixna

I was torn between the first and second choice. I mean, I'd like to see mostly folks here who have at least an INTEREST in long hair (and, yes, "long" is subjective!), whether it's their own or a friend's, relative's, or significant other's. If members are growing out their hair, have reached their goal (whatever that may be), want to grow longer, or just want to get their hair "in shape," what difference does it make? Of course, I'd like most (if not all) visitors here to appreciate long hair and not condemn anyone for having super-long hair or having long hair despite being over 40 or 50 or 60. I want to see support for ALL kinds and lengths of hair (well, maybe not buzz cuts -- there's nothing wrong with them, mind you, but this just doesn't seem the right spot to get support for them).

Now, about that beattchy stuff.... You weren't referring to ME, were you??? Answer me, dagnabbit!!! I said, WERE YOU???!!!!!!! :D :D :D

the style in my sig: I put my hair into 5 braids (none french) while wet after applying leave-in (with 'cones). I wrapped the two front braids around the crown and pinned. the rest, I either braided together or coiled into a bun. At the end of the day, I took down the three back braids. (my hair is always much shinier and softer when I let it dry the entire day in a bun or braids).

I picked the waist length one only because I frequent some sites that say specifically long hair in name then members come on and start post about why long hair and what length is too much and talking about how it would be unmanageable and too wild or something. If I had to choose the answer I really want is people trying to grow their hair and loving long hair and not attempting to get people to feel funny or strange about having longer hair than them. Those folks are out there on many what is suppose to be "Long Hair "sites. :(

There are trolls on the boards? Geez, I really must have my head in the sand be/c I never really see "true" trolls. I see (sometimes) community members getting a little snarky, but I don't think I have seen a real troll.

And competitiveness? On the boards? I miss that too. I guess I just don't pick up on those types of things. I mean how can you be competitive w/someone you really don't even know?

I think everyone's welcome here, though I do get annoyed by some members who idealize long hair on one gender. How is cutting your hair more or less natural for one gender than the other? Perhaps I'm in the minority, though.

Anyway, even those are welcome in the hopes that they will learn better. :rockerdud

Amen, sister! DBF, I think I could follow your around these boards and simply post agreements with most of the comments you write. It would save me a lot of time, LOL.

Though I think the political opinions don't belong in a Hair Poll.
Sorry, Chris, you know I love ya.

Hmmm, I find myself wondering again whether the :silly: may not have been a clear enough indication of the jesting....

Yes, those of all political opinions (and none) are welcome, and yes, overt politicing of liberal or conservative variety doesn't belong at LHC.

Ha! Well, I spoke for myself, but it's nice to see that I'm not alone in my opinions.

With your beautiful - and unusually long - man, you must get that sort of attitude ALL the time, Lady Godiva!

I always find it amusing (and frustrating) when I encounter someone with that attitude.

That's too funny! I can't believe I made such a silly typo... but HA!

(This reminds me, actually, of a discussion with my host mother when I was an exchange student in Sweden. She was talking about how tall her daughter's best friend (a man) was - and she said "He's a very long young man" in English. I laughed so hard, and then had to explain that while that works in Swedish, we tend not to discuss such matters in English. 8) )

Hi, this is an old thread but I wanted to chime in.
I voted Everyone because I didn't want to choose a length requirement. See below.

I'm Robert / PurpleBubba one of the Male members. At the moment I am growing my hair long.

I have been visiting and participating in hair care related forums since 2000. I also attended Cosmetology School briefly.

I have also moderated and still moderate some forums.
I joined them mostly to learn and then help after I learned.

I'm Not a moderator here so this is just my own opinions or observations of what I've learned.
I feel that as long as a person is here to do something positive to either help himself or someone he knows learn or to help others learn then he should be welcome. However, what most people have said they don't want is someone who is simply here to look at pictures or proclaim their love for long hair so much that it sounds like a fetish or obsession. This site isn't meant to be for voyuerism. It's for learning to care for hair.

Sometimes all it takes is to maybe learn what others are doing and then when someone new joins and asks a question you can point out what others have tried, while letting them know that it's important for them to try it for themselves. Also that it may not work for them or everyone.
It's kinda like Pay it Forward. Learn something and pass it on.
Remember, we are all new at some point. Do you like people to chime in and help you? If they do help, then chime in later and help someone else if you can.

That's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Why can't I vote Cheese/NOBODY'S WELCOME HERE!

No, everyone should be welcome here. Me thinks, everyone on these boards is at least interested in (long) hair and hair care whether or not they are growing it out themselves. No reason to register for a hair board if you're not interested in hair, is there?
