View Full Version : What do you eat for lunch?
Grenwich July 12th, 2003, 02:45 PM Those of you that brown-bag - I'm looking for suggestions for new things to take to work.
My normal routine is salad and soy brats, or chicken breast strips, and occasionally, a chunk of pork tenderloin.
I want make ahead stuff that's good for me.
I also usually take breakfast - which is grapenuts with wheatgerm and fruit.
Snacks thru the day - a small cup of Dannons Lite and creamy yogurt ( 50 cals) and a piece of fruit - banana, apple, plum, peach, whatever's in season.
All suggestions most welcome!
Thanks in advance. :D

Hollie July 12th, 2003, 05:42 PM Salad w/kidney beans topped with salsa & fat free sour cream. Brown rice and beans. Fuji apple. Orange. Prunes. Lowfat cottage cheese & 1/2 cup Fruit Naturals.
If I think of more, I'll post it. :DD
Lexy July 12th, 2003, 07:22 PM I take either PB+J or tunafish, dried apricots, an apple and some walnuts. Unless we have leftovers or beans and rice (yes, my sexy recipe :D ).
And that's it. I usually eat while I read, so I barely even notice what I put into my mouth.
At lunch time I'm more concerned about cheap than gourmet. I'm afraid I'm not much help, since your original lunch is more fun than mine... :(
Speedqueen July 12th, 2003, 07:26 PM Oh. Ok I'll reply with my original answer before I had read the string. I had two pieces of white bread with butter and Presidents CHoice dark chocolate spread and a cup of coffee with half and half cream laced with Bailey's Irish Cream....
Salads, fruit yogurt, sandwiches, leftovers mainly. Nothing creative.
I'm no help.
Sorry...

Ooh.. sounds good to me! Bailey's in *anything* has to be good!
Grenwich July 13th, 2003, 05:38 AM LOL - as much as I LOVE Baileys - my supervisor would probably be pretty upset if I start drinking at lunch!

zoya_ July 13th, 2003, 08:44 AM Try salade, made of eggplants, baked with some olive oil, mixed with chickpeas, any white beans, onions, bit of vinegar - and some oil/spices to taste. Goes well with chicken breast, and high on protein.

Speedqueen July 14th, 2003, 04:46 AM No no no. I thought she wanted to know what I had for lunch that day. Not what I ususally have at work
I used to have Baileys at lunch while in High school. .... and some days now a good stiff one at lunch would help the afternoon run smoothly........ I'm a telephone technician and have to deal with clients face to face at work. Sure would make for some interesting days if I drank Baileys at work.
Regards.

Nitsa July 15th, 2003, 06:37 AM Most of the time my luch is leftovers from the night befores dinner. We have a microwave in our break room and it works well for me.
I also take a lot of large salids to work. Sometimes I will put chick peas in it for protien other times I will take imitation crab meat or some grilled salmon.
If no leftovers are around I will often take a boca burger and a small salid, or a baked sweet potato and a small salid.
I eat out once a week at work and then I usually go to a local mid eastern restrant and get some grape leaves or a falafal to go.
Ok, now I am hungry :D

Zoya, This sounds interesting. Can you please post the complete recipe (with quantity and instructions) i love all the ingredients that went into this recipe. :D
thanks!
Quirky July 15th, 2003, 02:57 PM 1/2 cup chicken or tuna salad, a small bag of baked chips and a diet soda usually.
bellawave July 16th, 2003, 06:11 AM Last couple of days it's been ham and cheese on whole
wheat, 2 pieces of fruit (apple and banana), and a small cup of pistachios.
Usually I pack some sort of sandwich like that for me and bf,
2 pieces of fruit and nuts if we have them, a cookie or
two if we have them. Other times it's leftovers with one
or two pieces of fruit.
LiLi September 4th, 2003, 02:37 PM What works best for me is a formula of sandwich, veggie, fruit, and yogurt. I'll usually do an avocado/sliced egg/PB sandwich, carrots or broccoli, and a peach or strawberries. The yogurt I usually eat in the afternoon to avoid the 4 o'clock "it's somebody's birthday" cake my office inevitably offers. If I want a treat I'll bring some chocolate chip teddy grahams -- a serving of 24 has only 4 grams and around 200 calories, and fills you up way more than a regular cookie.
Oh, and an extra special tip -- Old Navy has the cutest lunch boxes made of insulative fabric on sale right now... they're pink or purple, keep things cold/hot really well, and are SOOO CUTE!!
Sasha September 4th, 2003, 07:24 PM For me, lunch is totally the "whatever the hell I've got left over from last night's dinner" meal. If there's nothing left over, I'll raid the fridge and put together a meal out of odds and ends.
