View Full Version : MENSA "intelligence test" getoffmyskittle January 21st, 2006, 04:32 PM Here's a fun puzzle. :) http://www.mensa-test.com/ I have 12 so far, but still working... clio January 21st, 2006, 05:27 PM Hee hee, these things give me a headache but I'm always fascinated anyway! LauraJean January 21st, 2006, 05:35 PM 11 and still thinking. clio January 21st, 2006, 05:40 PM Nine and baffled! Speedbump January 21st, 2006, 05:53 PM Oh man, this is fun! I'm still working on it, but I am doing pretty well so far. I have 11 of them so far, although it's giving me a score of 22/33 for some reason. :suspect: I'm very good at word pattern recognition, so this is right up my alley. I hope I get all of them eventually! :face: Thanks for posting this! Speedy Ursula January 21st, 2006, 05:57 PM 21 out of 33 so far - just ran through it quick. Alley Cat January 21st, 2006, 06:05 PM I have 9 so far but 3 I know are right but aren't coming up right what's the deal with that? Spelling perhaps? KarenLynn January 21st, 2006, 06:06 PM 17 so far. It would probably have been easier in my mother tongue, though. rinkydink January 21st, 2006, 06:07 PM 20. I'm stumped by the rest. Sierra January 21st, 2006, 06:08 PM I am up to 22 but I'm growing tired... been doing this about 15 minutes. thirstygodiva January 21st, 2006, 06:16 PM i got 19! with some help from my mom. she got one. is the 1000 one "1000 years in a millenium"? because it wouldn't accept it when i typed it in... Sierra January 21st, 2006, 06:18 PM i got 19! with some help from my mom. she got one. is the 1000 one "1000 years in a millenium"? because it wouldn't accept it when i typed it in... It is! Unfortunately there are two N's in millennium. ;) I had to figure that one out after spelling it the way you did. (Up to 23... I might finish this after several weeks because I never give up on these things. But that's cheating.) Edit: after a "duh" moment, changed my response to white text so as not to spoil. Ursula January 21st, 2006, 06:19 PM Just a note, this test requires exact spelling, and no extra spaces. If you aren't sure of the spelling of a word, look it up. Speedbump January 21st, 2006, 06:21 PM (Up to 23... I might finish this after several weeks because I never give up on these things. But that's cheating.) Actually, the test isn't timed so it's not. Just keep letting that brain work on it. Step away from it for a while and come back. I got three in a quick succession doing that. Speedy, now, strangely and on a logical basis impossibly at 38/33 :suspect: singindierain January 21st, 2006, 06:26 PM Oh you just HAD to post this, didn't you? I'm at 15 (haven't cheated yet) and stuck! Hopefully, I will be at 19 soon...Hey I deserve geniusness... Arianwen January 21st, 2006, 06:26 PM I got 10...I give up! KarenLynn January 21st, 2006, 06:29 PM 19 now. Shouldn't have even looked at it - now I'll think about the remaining ones until I either go nuts or figure them out. Milaandra January 21st, 2006, 06:52 PM I have 9 so far but 3 I know are right but aren't coming up right what's the deal with that? Spelling perhaps? Is #32 one of them? I just wonder if I'm on the wrong track with that one, because I've tried every possible spelling I can think of. Another one should have an apostrophe but doesn't accept that. If you put the answer in without it, it works. I have 20 so far, but I'm going to try again in the morning. nesxb74 January 21st, 2006, 06:57 PM I've managed 22 with no cheating (I'm not sure how I'd cheat!) and I'm happy with that. Now I can prove to DH that I'm a genius ;) Piperdiva January 21st, 2006, 07:05 PM millennium has 2 'n's'. I stopped at 18. time for bed Piperdiva January 21st, 2006, 07:06 PM 21 out of 33 so far - just ran through it quick. yup-we know you are a brainiac  Alley Cat January 21st, 2006, 07:13 PM Is #32 one of them? I just wonder if I'm on the wrong track with that one, because I've tried every possible spelling I can think of. Another one should have an apostrophe but doesn't accept that. If you put the answer in without it, it works. I have 20 so far, but I'm going to try again in the morning. It was but we worked out the spelling was wrong, we have 24 so far [hubby helping] and number 6 we are sure is right but keep getting wrong, and 33 we think we know the answer but it's wrong too. daeana January 21st, 2006, 07:15 PM 27 for me until i gave up.... yay, a website says i'm a genius. my life is now complete. :silly: Alley Cat January 21st, 2006, 07:22 PM We got feed up so looked at the answers we ended up with 25/33 a couple we never would have got but a few were so easy we have to :blushing: Pilgrim January 21st, 2006, 07:29 PM This is right up my alley, too. I have 27 so far and want to get all of them, but am stumped right now. I'm glad they put in a note at the end about the type of people who do well on this test - "gifted with verbal ability and linquistic pattern recognition". I don't really see how it can indicate whether or not someone is a "genius" since it doesn't cover other areas of intelligence. If this was a math test, I would flunk it! Speedbump January 21st, 2006, 08:01 PM I am all done at 40/33. Didn't finish, but I couldn't. I think I bwoke my wittle mind. I always knew I was a genius. An EVIL genius...but one nonetheless. That reminds me. I want this shirt: http://www.cafepress.com/boyersmile.36920990  Speedy physicschick January 21st, 2006, 08:06 PM I have 21 so far. (No, I didn't do it very quickly.) I couldn't go to bed until I got to genius level. :D I'm really, really impressed by nonnative speakers who tried this (KarenLynn!!!). Maybe I'll try some more tomorrow. I prefer IQ tests that cover math, though. Those make me feel smarter. :) --physicschick Wind Dragon January 21st, 2006, 08:17 PM Heh. I gave up after 21, but I bookmarked it. hairymonster January 21st, 2006, 09:36 PM 21 so far. Sigh... I'll have to get back to this later. Lucky January 21st, 2006, 11:24 PM I got 24/33, though I've always scored high on any sort of verbal test - I guess that's why I'm a translator! It was fun. eiyela January 22nd, 2006, 03:06 AM You just had to post this now... Doh! I had surgery a week or so ago, and I can barely concentrate long enough to open a soda bottle! :wail: (this is true, I had to take a break halfway yesterday. :sad ) But just you wait! I shall prevail! Next week. :silly: getoffmyskittle January 22nd, 2006, 05:28 AM  I got 13 in about 20 minutes last night, then got a phone call. I just left the window up and am now back at it. *assembles the Nerd Corps* nicolezoie January 22nd, 2006, 02:12 PM So far, I have 20/33 in about 5 minutes, and I think I'm stumped at this point. I'm going to try later. Thanks for posting - this was fun. eta: just figured out a few, so that's 23/33. Sierra January 22nd, 2006, 02:22 PM I'm up to 25 so far... just out of curiosity, did anyone get numbers 6, 28-31, and 33? (Don't tell me what they are, I am just wondering if others are having problems with the same ones.) I seem to have a mental block when it comes to the letters "T" and "P" for some reason. ETA: Got #14! removed it from the above list. ETA2: Ditto #17. LaMusette January 22nd, 2006, 04:33 PM Sierra, I have solved 23/33, and I DID solve number 33. However, the ones that have stumped you also stumped me. Keep trying! LaMusette January 22nd, 2006, 04:35 PM OOOPS! Correction: Just figured out number 6. It is possible. moonchaser January 22nd, 2006, 05:24 PM Got all but 2 and those 2 I would never have gotten because they are not well known things in the US ETA the ones that will not be well known to US people are #30,31 LaMusette January 22nd, 2006, 05:30 PM Yes, when I realized (duh) that the cultural bias was British, I was able to figure out three of the questions that had stopped me. 30-31 were two of those! Milaandra January 22nd, 2006, 05:31 PM It was but we worked out the spelling was wrong, we have 24 so far [hubby helping] and number 6 we are sure is right but keep getting wrong, and 33 we think we know the answer but it's wrong too. I got number 6...did you make the J plural? I got a couple more, so I'm up to 25... Milaandra January 22nd, 2006, 05:38 PM I'm up to 25 so far... just out of curiosity, did anyone get numbers 6, 28-31, and 33? (Don't tell me what they are, I am just wondering if others are having problems with the same ones.) I got #6 and #30...none of the others on your list. curlycat January 22nd, 2006, 06:15 PM I quit! I couldn't get 28, 29 or 33. I only got 31 after someone mentioned the British cultural bias. Hairstorm January 22nd, 2006, 08:57 PM You guys are awesome! I'm really lame! I decided to make up my own nonsense answers: 1. 26 limbs of the acacia 2. 7 daughters of the woodsman 3. 7 widows of the walruses 4. 12 stripes of the zebra 5. 66 bras of the beast 6. 52 cows in a pen (with John) 7. 13 singers in the un-sanitary fridge 8. 18 hairs on a green crab 9. 39 balls of the other team 10. 5 ticks on a frog 11. 90 dimples in a Rowan Atkinson 12. 3 bald men (sewing hair to rugs) 13. 32 is the time in deep forests at which we freakout 14. 15 parrots in a redwood tree 15. 3 women on a trampoline 16. 100 clowns in a dinghy 17. 11 people in a funny (striped) tent 18. 12 men in a yacht 19. 13 is urban foul stench 20. 8 talons on an owl 21. 29 dahlias in flower in a lucky yard 22. 27 boys in the nude -- Teacher! 23. 365 dandruffs in a yarmulke 24. 13 livers in a body donor 25. 52 wrinkles in a Yoda 26. 9 limbs of a cat 27. 60 men in a harem 28. 23 pieces of candy in the handyman's belt 29. 64 shades on a color board 30. 9 people in sudden apathy 31. 6 bytes to an orange in computers 32. 1000 yarns in a mat 33. 15 mice on a dinky moldy cheese Well, these aren't great, but at least I squeezed in some cheese! I know you can come up with funnier ones; let's hear 'em! singindierain January 22nd, 2006, 09:20 PM I forgot to repost last night. I did get 19 but I was very unhappy cause when my partner took it-he got 22! Little dork that he is... Hehehe... Pilgrim January 22nd, 2006, 09:23 PM I'm stumped on #24, 28-31, and 33. If I don't figure them out, I'm eventually going to want to know what they are, but I know we wouldn't want to give anything away here. (I may give up and ask someone to PM me the answers, though!) Maybe I'll give it another try tomorrow after some sleep. Hairstorm - too funny! Julie Hairstorm January 22nd, 2006, 09:49 PM Weird -- I took a break, then came back to the test and some more answers jumped out at me. I'm up to 21. Yay! singindierain January 22nd, 2006, 09:52 PM Okay I'm at this again tonight and with NO cheating am up to 23. I'm stumped! hairymonster January 23rd, 2006, 12:33 AM Only 3 left - I'm totally stuck at 24, 28 and 31! Why can't it be 23 Pieces of Cheese in the Hair Board?! Grr... Alley Cat January 23rd, 2006, 12:41 AM I'm stumped on #24, 28-31, and 33. If I don't figure them out, I'm eventually going to want to know what they are, but I know we wouldn't want to give anything away here. (I may give up and ask someone to PM me the answers, though!) Maybe I'll give it another try tomorrow after some sleep. Hairstorm - too funny! Julie You can find the answers in the FAQ, I looked up after deciding that I wouldn't get anymore. Alley Cat January 23rd, 2006, 12:43 AM I got number 6...did you make the J plural? I got a couple more, so I'm up to 25... When I looked up the answers what we had put was the same go figure, and one other that I had guessed right as well. singindierain January 23rd, 2006, 01:09 AM Okay, I stopped tonight at 23/33. I'm happy that last night I got 19. Does that make me a genius? :silly: I don't think so. Zequana January 23rd, 2006, 01:56 AM Argh. This was hard. I wish this one was available in Swedish :) it's so hard on a second language, especially when it's sayings and such. I have a few that I just know that I have the right answer to (no 17), but it won't accept my answer. I'm also stumped at one which I think has something with the bible to do, I'm very bad at religous stuff :) the other religious one I just guessed at. Number 19 was quite funny actually :) not very logical answer. ETA: 23 so far, but I'm not done yet... working on it. ETA: I figured out #30 and #31!! oh dear :) if someone wants a small clue, let me know. Fia January 23rd, 2006, 02:12 AM I got 23 out of 33 before I gave up and peeked at the correct answers. Some of them definitely quite hard if you're not accustomed to British culture and some specific sayings. I'm quite ashamed to say that I didn't solve #8 - I should have... Hairstorm January 23rd, 2006, 06:25 AM Fia! I knew you'd do well! 8) But... I'm quite ashamed to say that I didn't solve #8 - I should have... :oops:How embarrassing!;) LittleFlower January 24th, 2006, 09:35 PM Hairymonster sent me the link to this a few days ago 8) Got 19 on the first quick try and finally finished the next day with 30 out of 33. The same 3 questions had us stumped so we gave up and peeked at the answers. I can't believe I didn't think of 13 L in a B D, I should have known that one :brickwall singindierain January 24th, 2006, 10:47 PM For all you Mensa addicts (thanks to this thread) There is a newer test you can try. It's part two. If you answer 9-19 you are considered "intelligent". Thankfully, I'm at 12 already. Just 12 more to go!!! http://www.intelligence-test.net/part2/ Dianyla January 25th, 2006, 12:00 AM For all you Mensa addicts (thanks to this thread) There is a newer test you can try. Gah!! I can't tear myself away. Up to 14 so far. :face: nesxb74 January 25th, 2006, 12:01 AM Well I went back and tried the first one again. I'm up to 27 now but can't seem to get any more. The second test does seem a bit harder (or maybe my brain is just frazzled from doing the last one). I too am up to 12. Hairstorm January 25th, 2006, 06:36 AM Haha, I only got 1 right on this second test. (Although I thought I also knew #13, it wouldn't accept my answer.) Is it: 101 dalmations ? (highlight to see) Now where'd I leave my dunce cap? Doi... :graduate: goldilocks January 25th, 2006, 07:56 AM At 19 at first try I gotta go maybe i'll try this later. (does that make me a genius???) Alley Cat January 25th, 2006, 06:44 PM I am doing the second test and up to 9 so far, boy I wish I was smarter than this. Noticed they took away the answers for the first one, and I've forgotten heaps already.:wail: Alun January 26th, 2006, 07:34 AM I gave up at 25, and my brain hurts! Must be a genius, though :silly: snowbear January 26th, 2006, 08:06 PM 19 so far. Still going. I had my English final today, and I should be in bed sleeping. Bah. 24! KarenLynn January 28th, 2006, 03:52 PM Hah. Finally figured out #1. I had a feeling I should know this one. I probably would have caught on sooner if it had said 29, which is the number of L in the A I grew up with. Up to 20 on that one now, and 9 so far on part two. Hairstorm - exchange the o with an a. ;) Nenwing January 29th, 2006, 03:40 PM This is kinda fun! Its odd that after so long it kind of just comes to you. Like #20, I didn't know that, it just kinda happened into my head. Me and my husband are kind of doing it together, lol I'd say he got like 3-4 of them. ETA: up to 19. Lol thats really like 16 prolly for me. Me and my husband together are a genius :silly: Hairstorm January 30th, 2006, 09:27 AM Hairstorm - exchange the o with an a. ;) Whoops! :blushing: Thanks! Teacherbear January 31st, 2006, 07:34 PM I give up and no I didn't cheat (except to use m-w.com for spell checking) and got 21/33. :wethree: DaveDecker February 1st, 2006, 06:34 PM 20/33 after about 20 minutes and rapidly sliding down the non-productive curve... Interesting note at the bottom of the page: "People who did well on this type of test are likely those who are gifted with verbal ability and linguistic pattern recognition. This sort of assessment would discriminate against those with non-linguistic pattern recognition (like solving jigsaw puzzles) and spatial intelligence (like the ability to use a map or see hidden figures in a drawing)." I enjoy these kinds of things too. Good with maps; navigationally, I can find my way around. I've become a bit of a sudoku nut, and even enjoy the basic Windows games (mindsweeper, spider solitaire, free cell... there's not one game of free cell I haven't been able to win). Alley Cat February 1st, 2006, 11:23 PM Hey anyone where I can find a link to the answers for the 2nd test, now I have exhausted my efforts I would like to know the answers . Please. :wannabe: tsenglish@ns.sy February 2nd, 2006, 04:36 AM I poured over it for 30 min, now I have to go to work and I ddon't have time to figure anymore out! my head hurts! i got 21. I am SMRT Allen February 11th, 2006, 05:48 AM I poured over it for 30 min, now I have to go to work and I ddon't have time to figure anymore out! my head hurts! i got 21. I am SMRT Okay, now I definately give up. Have them all except 30 and 31 and for some reason can't get South America out of my head for SA and the phrases I come up with for 30 are too risque to print. The rest of them just kind of come to you if you can get yourself free of distractions (cellphones, doorbells, snack breaks)....that's probably the toughest part of taking the test. Anthony February 11th, 2006, 11:29 PM I got 14 after about 10 minutes. Adeye February 12th, 2006, 01:10 AM Got 29 of 33. Missing 14, 30, 31, and 33. Really frustrating too! I know I'm going to keep thinking of these until I figure them out! GRRR!! |
