I just thought I would post this link, as I know a few of you were interested in some maori bone and wooden hair combs. These are very reasonably priced...

I have had a look around, and these really are priced well. Some other brands are very ornate, and probably too pricey for most people. But these start at as little as $13 NZ. I hope the link shows up properly.

Oh, thank you for that link!
Some lovely combs, good prices, and they seem like a good company to buy from.

Thanks for posting this! It's reminded me that there was a link to some very expensive and highly elaborate combs that I wanted to look at again (but probably not buy). Now, I just need to find that thread...

This link was great, too. The third one down made me jump a little, though, because I bought one almost identical to it in Greece. There are some minor differences, but it looks almost the same. I'm wondering now if it's Maori. I did buy it at a little import store.

Glad you guys like them, I know that there are some very expensive ones around, but these are nicely priced!

Singingindierain - thankyou very much:flowers:

Kleis - If you can scan me your comb I can tell you if it is Maori or not, it could be interesting to see it.

The designs are certainly interesting. The Maori are very spiritual people, and it appears that they put a lot of their symbology into the combs. Thanks for sharing the link.

I "need" a couple too...

wonder if there are enough of us to warrant a group order. Shipping is probably pricey.

Here it is, with a cat paw to show scale. Tashi was trying to take it away from me as I was photographing it.

I just emailed them and they emailed straight back. Shipping from NZ to California was quoted as $5 (NZ) or about $3 (US). Did not sound bad to me.

Those are gorgeous! I might have to get myself one. I can't figure out how to use forks yet, but they are so pretty, like a work of art all on their own.

Ooh, pretty...I just had to order one:grin: My shipping came to 8,50 NZD(to Norway), and the piece I chose was 20. I'll let y'all know how I like it when it arrives!

After all, one has to treat oneself to some Christmas gifts:smirk:

Kleis - that certainly does look like a traditional heru. The shape of it is meant to represent Maui's fish hook, ( the Maori believe Maui caught the north island with his fish hook and pulled it out of the ocean, the south island is meant to be his boat.) I cant see the ingraving by your thumb, so I am not sure if this is one from here, or if it is a replica....but it certainly looks like the real deal.

So glad that some of you have liked the heru's, they really are incredibly comfortable, and will stay in all day, in most hair types.

I ended up ordering two :)
since the shipping was actually less than for some products that ship inside the US, go figure.

Wow those are beautiful, I can't wait to see how those of you who've ordered already like them :-)

I contacted them and they'll give us free shipping for an order of 15 combs or more.

Sounds like a group order waiting to happen....

I'll post a thread over on the appropriate board.

I got my order the day before Christmas. I ordered one, but got two, which was very nice. However they were a bit smaller and less sturdy than I had anticipated. One I'll be able to make buns with, the other will have to make do as a decoration.

Both mine were bone, and I think I would've gone for wood now that I've seen them. And it also pays off to spend a few dollars more if you can afford it I think...

Excellent service though!

Thanks for posting this site, I find that beautiful hair accessories are so expensive on the net.
