View Full Version : Suggestions on a good loose face powder??
StrawberryShortcake June 9th, 2003, 08:44 PM Let me explain my little situation then maybe someone can give me some ideas, I'll make it short:)...Ok, I'm going to this concert and after the concert I actually get to go backstage and meet the band :D And the concert is gonna have all these people squeezed into a little theatre all jumping around and everything, so I'm bound to get sweaty. So what I wanted to do was keep some powder in a retractable face brush and keep it in my purse and brush it over my face before I go backstage to freshen up and look more polished again.
So any ideas on a good face pawder? And right now I don't have the money for a really good one from a department store, so it has to be something I can get at like Wal-Mart lol
And if anyone has any other ideas to polish and refresh myself after the concert I'd love to hear them :) I've been waiting to meet this band for over 6 years so I really want to look my best! lol. And after 2 hours of jumping around squeezed to other people at a concert, I don't think I will lol. So if anyone has any little tricks I can do quickly after the show, on how to look like you do when you just leave the house, ya know, all neat and pretty, then I would love to hear them :D
Thank You!:)
Teacherbear June 10th, 2003, 04:56 AM I don't know if you should take any advice from me, The Make-Up Challeneged, but 2 thoughts came to my mind.
First of all, you might try those "blotter papers". I've seen them at Ulta, but not sure if other stores carry them (but they probably do). You tear off one tissue, from a pack that looks like an oversized match book. Press the tissue to your oily/sweaty places. It wisks away dampness and leaves a trace of rice powder (I think that's what it is).
The second suggestion is rice powder. It won't look cakey. I don't know where to get it, though. Maybe someone else can help you.

And nosey ol' me . . . what band???! ;)
rainee June 10th, 2003, 07:37 AM You definately want to pick up blotter papers, otherwise your makeup will look very cakey when you retouch. The following usually works best for me.
- blot with blotting papers (I use Clean and Clear's)
- smooth out old powder with non-latex sponge (You may not need this step. I use relatively high coverage mineral powder, and it usually needs to be resmoothed a bit before touchup).
- apply new powder
From personal experience (and that of other users of the cosmetics line I use), lower coverage powder (with less titanium dioxide) has longer, more resilient wear, so if you have good skin, you may not want to cover it with spf 30 super high coverage powder.
I've seen rice powder at Sally's. Some people put that on under higher coverage powder to absorb oil. A mattifier (Clean and Clear makes one, some people use milk of magnesia) might help too (but try it first to make sure it won't get pasty and white when you sweat) (You put a thin layer on under makeup).
also remember that the band will probably be the sweatiest of all, since they'll be under the hot lights and (if it's a hard rock or metal concert) will be moving around quite a bit (especially the poor drummer, whom you can expect to be a puddle of sweat within a few songs). so don't fret too much.
Dispatcherbert June 11th, 2003, 10:18 PM I use Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil. I get it through QVC but you can also buy it at Ulta (if you have one of those nearby you.) Here's what it touts on the QVC webpage:
Reduce the shine. Give your face a perfectly sheer matte finish with Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil Face Powder. It's designed to be worn over foundation to eliminate shine and minimize the appearance of pores. Mineral Veil is cornstarch-based and light as a feather, resulting in shine-free skin.
I use a light dusting prior to using my Bare Escentuals power foundation. When I'm all done putting my makeup on, I dust on a little bit more of the Mineral Veil. It's also great for touchups during the day. One of the kits that I purchased from QVC has a retractable brush which fits nicely into a purse. I just put some on that and I'm set for the day (or night in my case since I work dogwatch).
HTH.
annetan June 12th, 2003, 06:27 AM Hi, I also uses mineral makeup from Aromaleigh http://www.aromaleigh.com you can get sample size of the "loose powder" at a very reasonable price and fast shipping!!
It will be hard to choose a right color foundation alternatively, you can get some of her new primer powders, i am sure you will be able to get something that suits you :)

StrawberryShortcake June 26th, 2003, 11:41 PM Oh guys I am SO sorry for not replying sooner, I read the post like a week ago but I only had 2 minutes online so I didn't have enough time to reply or anything, then I forgot about it lol. Sorry
Anyways...if anyone still cares, Thanks so much for the responses! They were really helpful. I bought some of those Clean and Clear blotting things someone mentioned, they work awesome!
And I wanna thank everyone for answering and actually like, sounding interested lol. :) It means a lot. So thanks for all the ideas and help and everything :)
And nosey ol' me . . . what band???! ;)
lol, Hanson :DD Ok I know I know, that's probably so un-interesting to everyone here and no one probably cares, but for me, ya'll have NO idea how exciting it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol, TBear I don't know if you remember but at the old boards I'd like mention Hanson whenever I could lol. Like if someone mentioned Oklahoma I'd have to say something about them, or I'd post their pics lol :) I have been a fan of there's for over 6 years, since I was 11 so I like grew up with them. But then when I was 11 they were like idols to me but it's so different now, I still love them but now they're like long lost friends lol. Just normal guys, completly unperfect but I  their music and the guys, their fans matured a lot, and so did they, it's cool that we like did it together lol, and they're just the best band to me so I'm really happy:D I never got to meet them before! I'm flying out THIS Sunday to California(I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Cali! yay! :D ) to go to the show and to meet them :) I'm SO nervous! And so excited though! ahhh :D :D
Rambling lol, sorry....Thanks again for the replies! Made me less nervous about looking like a wreck after the show!
