I did my first CO tonight and my hair absolutely loves it! It feels soft and shiney.. Wow, 2 months ago, I would have sworn you MUST shampoo and condition.. lol Thanks so much LHC!

Tonight I used Swave's Passion Flower Conditioner, I know, it has cones, but I'm not sure where I really stand about them... My hair just feels and smells wonderful .. :)

I have been trying CO for almost two weeks and I am hooked! It seemed an odd and strange concept when I first read about it, but now that I have done it, I cannot imagine subjecting my hair to harsh shampoo again.

Good night!

Welcome to the cult! :grnbiggri

You sound just like me when I first discovered CO. I stopped using shampoo in August, and haven't looked back since!

Glad it worked for you Blondie71! The only shampoo I've used in the past year is Trader Joe's Nourish Shampoo, which is sulfate-free, and even that I'll use only 1-2x per month. I love CO - I've even started giving my curly-haired six-year-old daughter CO washes. Cleans her hair beautifully, and leaves her hair twice as soft, since she has untouched, 'virgin' hair.

I love CO too. When I first met my b/f, who has short really curly hair, I was pretty shocked to find out that he didnt use shampoo on his hair. I actually though that there was no way you could get it clean without shampoo. But after reading about CO here, and trying it myself, Im so impressed!

I have a question about CO hair washes, and I hope you don't mind me asking - I'm not trying to hijack the thread.
My hair is normally a little frizzy after washing with shampoo's, but settles down the following day or so as it's natural oils return.
My question is, would I benefit from CO hair washes?
Sorry for asking.

DesM - we're about the same hair type, and yes, I find that with CO my hair is a lot less frizzy. Even on the really humid days, it's much tamer than it used to be on those days. I'd say it's worth trying! CO usually works really well for wavy or curly hair, probably for similar reasons. And I always describe my hair as doing everything wavy hair does, except the actual waving. :waving:

And I think this was an okay kind of hijack, because it's still on topic. Generally, it's better to ask a question on a current thread, rather than starting a whole new one on the same subject.

Ok based on that theory, I have a question. I know that I have read about how long to leave in the conditioner, but I cannot find it. (Ever try doing a search on CO...It just kinda hangs) I want to try CO, but I am not sure how long I should leave the conditioner on. I recently found V05 SKR and I thought that it was a good one for CO, but I don't want to get out of the shower and find out that I didn't leave it on long enough. So, can someone give me a better idea of how long I should leave it on?

Thanks!!

Some people leave the conditioner on their hair for 15-20 mins and some leave it on for as long as 30-45 mins (like me  ) Co washes take this long to do because the mild surfacants need more time to clean your hair than shampoo, which uses harsh sulfates. Anyway, HTH and Good luck!

In the "Articles" section, there's a "How-to" for CO washing. The author just said to keep the conditioner in your hair and your hair out of the way while you're doing "other stuff", and take your hair out again at the end of the shower.

You can do a search for the article if you want details.

To Blondie: Hello fellow SWEU fan. I'm glad the CO worked for you! I tried it last night as well, but for me it was mostly a neutral experience... I didn't come out any worse off than I was when I went in, which is an improvement on the usual

I love doing co as well. I didn't think it'd work at first, but I'm a believer now. I've doing it for over a month now. My hair is softer than its been in years. And it is curlier now as well.

Would a person know right after the first attempt if CO works for them? I can't imagine my hair not feeling like a grease ball after doing that.

Welcome to the CO club! Just to share with those less familiar, this is my method:

I generally leave the conditioner on for at least 30-60 minutes. I start with dry hair - it works better for me that way. Then when I'm ready to wash it out, I just pop my head under the water for about 10 seconds, then massage my scalp with my fingertips until I work up the foaming action all over my scalp. Then I add a richer conditioner to my ends, carefully comb through my hair with the seamless shower comb, and rinse well. I love how soft and non-flyaway it leaves my hair. I've tried VO5 Tangerine Tickle and Suave Waterfall Mist so far, and both work equally well. However, after the 2nd CO in a row, I notice a white residue on my comb, so I do a diluted shampoo for the next wash, which means I'm down to shampooing once a week or less, and it doesn't take much shampoo - just a little squirt in about 8 oz of warm water, shaken well. My hair is responding very well.

It took my hair a week or two to adjust. I never had any problems during that time. I probably Co'd every day at first. Now I do it every other day.

Yes - I think you will. I was surprised too, because my scalp is quite oily. For me, the key was starting with dry hair. My first experiment was on wet hair, and it worked only minimally. So try my method, and I think you'll become a happy believer.

Everyone leaves it on for different amounts of time, it seems. For me, I do one quick CO wash first, and rinse it right away. Then I apply it a second time, and leave that one on while I do my other shower things - sometimes that's a few minutes, sometimes a little longer. Then rinse rinse rinse!

laurie_lu - Yes, I think you can tell right away. Your hair should feel clean after the CO, though not necessarily as clean as you may be used to with shampoo. The only greasies I had was on the off days between COs, while my scalp adjusted to not being stripped by shampoos.

Welcome to the CO Club

I was also astounded at how great my hair felt and could not believe how much better behaved it became.

I sometimes leave my first condish on for about 10min while washing and a quick soak followed by a second condish which I don't leave on for long at all. Other times I put my first condish on and a shower cap and stay that way for an hour or more followed by a quick second condish. It depends on how much time I have, but I try to do a long one or SMT at least every 3 / 4 washes. - I am still trying to moisturise the damage out of my hair!

I mostly follow these with an ACV rinse which I lightly rinse out with cold water.
