Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do to increase your growth rate. Just be patient and hope for speedy growth.

Beyond maintaining general good health and nutrition, there isn't much that will spead growth. For your diet, a good balance of vitamins and getting enough protein is what will make the difference. But that won't mean super-fast hair growth, it will just make it easier for your body to grow hair at it's healthy rate.

The best thing to do is just leave your hair alone, and stay very busy with interesting non-hair things. While you live your life, your hair will be growing without you doing anything in particular, and you'll look in the mirror one day and realize it's gotten longer.

I also suggest that you find one or two nice ways to wear it as it grows out so that you are not tempted to cut it all off. I used some special bun twists that kept my hair out of the way, and yet didn't look horrible.

Also, don't forget regular trims to promote healthy hair and get rid of those layers.

On the contrary, if your priority is gaining length (as opposed to growing out damage) you don't want to get too many trims. If you snip split ends regularly and try to eliminate breakage you probably won't need a trim at all. If you must trim, a microtrim of 1/8" or so should suffice.

ok thanks everyone.... Never had hair this short.. =( Had lots of compliments though, but it still dosn't make it any better!!!! My nails seem to grow quickly and are strong.. does that mean my hair will grow at a regular ratre and not slowly... arn't they both made of Keratin? or something?

Hair grows at a rate of about 1/2" per month, or about six inches a year. YMMV. I don't know how fast nails grow.

I can totally understand hating your short haircut, I went through the same thing when I was young. I totally hated it but everyone else loved it, especially my mother (less work for her).

It will grow out in no time. Just distract yourself with other things and enjoy (yes, I said enjoy) your hair at this length while you can. You can do things I, with 30" of hair, cannot. And you get to grow those new ends healthier than before :) It's not far from just below shoulders to BSL, and from there who knows.

You'll get there. Happy growing! :flowers:

I'm siding with everyone else on this one. There is nothing you can do to grow hair out from pixie to waist overnight. Proper maintenance, healthy lifestyle habits, and some good vitamins will help you get there with healthy looking beautiful hair. But it won't come quickly. I would suggest taking Biotin, a good multivitamin, and making sure you're getting the recommended amount of protein. You could drink a protein soy shake once a day. Ultimately, you are going to have to have patience. Average growth for hair is 6-7" per YEAR. However, your's might grow faster or slower it just depends. Just have patience, get some good vitamins, and pick up some healthy hair tips from this site and you'll be there in no time.

I know this was a while ago but good post ursula! I totally agree that a wtched pot never boils and the bus only comes when your not stareing down the road waiting impatiently for it. If people keep busy and relax, eventually thier hair will be long without them even noticing! that said, i'm going to stop obsessing about hair for today and get outta here. ciao!

Jadeleona, you're luckier in a way than a lot of us. You're starting your length trip with healthy, beautiful ends. A lot of us are trying to grow out damage from chemical processes and just general rough hair care. So be patient and soon enough you'll have long, healthy hair.

If it's any help, that's what I'm concentrating on now. I know my hair grows slowly--more slowly than the 6" average per year at this age (it used to grow about 9" per year when I was your age!). Paying more attention to the health of my hair keeps my mind off the slow growth.

Well, mostly it does.

In a way I kinda envy those who've opted for the big chop. They get to start out with near virgin healthy hair. Once their hair gets long, it'll look better than mine with damaged length.

I've been taking a B Complex 50mg vitamin daily. I do notice my fingernails grow like crazy now but not sure if my hair is growing any faster.

...well, from others' and my own experience: applying hair oils (e.g. jojoba) can help speed your hair growth. I'd also avoid chemical shampoos, or at least limit usage of them. Since I started using hair oils (and stopped chemical sshampoos), I have no need to trim split ends PLUS my hair keeps growing MUCH (!) FASTER than before. It might depend on your hair type, though, but you can always try.

After doing research here and other forums I am trying the Biotin and Silica supplements and am hoping they work , lots of people say Biotin especially really does work to grow hair faster . I hope it does cause I'm taking lots, I am a vitamin junkie anyway [ confession ].

I've always believed the saying that good things come to those who wait. Don't fret. You've trimmed your hair and so it's a tad shorter but that doesn't mean your hair won't grow. Beautiful hair takes time and I would just try putting the goal of growing your hair somewhere in the back of your head. That way your not obsessing about it and it does't bother you. In the mean time, take care of your hair the best way that you can, eat a balanced meal 3X a day, take multivitamins and before you know it you'll have the long beautiful hair that you were meant to have! Like right now, I feel like it's taking forever for my hair to reach waist length. however to make me kinda forget that i'm growing it, I always put it up in a bun. This way my hair is being protected and I'm keeping it healthy. One day you're eventually going to take that bun down and your hair will be so long and healthy you won't believe how fast the time went. So be happy and stay motivated! (I know, I try to seek out the good in every situation). Life's too short to stress!
