I just found out yesterday that my cousin (same age as me) is going to have her first child in March. Time to crack out the tried and true baby blanket pattern and the crochet hook! I think I am going to make a white one this time, since I don't know the sex yet. It takes me an avg. of 6 months to crank one out. Good thing she let us know now!!!

Thats great.
My cousin, who is a year younger than me is expecting her first child in a couple months (a boy). I put together a gift basket over flowing with stuff. (I am know for my gift baskets.)

Congratulations to your cousin!
And good crotcheting for you:lol:
I am personally facing a dilemma... a good good friend is due in four weeks (I´m nervous for her, she´s that good of a friend...) and so far I´ve given her every single small piece of my baby´s clothing and shoes and baby-carriers and whatnot. We are talking big storage boxes of things. Many many boxes.
BUT what do I bring her when I go to see the new baby? What! I´ve made sure she does not need anything she doesn´t already have so it could be just some silly useless, cute thing... but what...

Here's the pattern I used for my youngest. http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/cpl-bafg.html
It is a quick pattern and only uses one big skein of yarn. So it's relatively inexpensive, too. I was going to give it away, but decided I liked it too much. I'm glad I decided to keep it, because it is now my 18 month old's FAVORITE lovey. In fact, I had some yarn left over and crocheted some booties and a poncho, and she carries those around as lovies when the blanket is not available.

I've done that pattern as well. It goes fast, and for interest, you can use a contrasting color for the edging and to bind on the hood.
