My eldest daughter, too! It looked very strange when it was starting to grow in light. And she's kept the blonde hair (unlike her mom, who went dark around age 12).

Yes, my firstborn daughter was born with a head full of dark long hair, actually enough to make a small pony tail. The next two girls were not so lucky, they were peach fuzz and blonde...LOL

My daughter was born with a shock of black hair. It just laid there limply on her eyebrows and the crease of her fat little neck. I could never get it into cute ribboned ponytails. At four months, though, her hair started to curl.

I was born with black hair. It changed very quickly to white-blond and has darkened over the years. I'm not sure when it changed, but all the ones of me as a toddler are with white-blond hair. The nueses told mum that would happen, and she laughed, lol

3 out of 4 were hairy little monkeys, lol!! My 3rd one had some hair, but it kinda fell out and grew back at about 8 months.

Joey had just a little bit of "monk"-style hair (you know...like a tonsure...bald on the top, just a little on the sides and back). It was strawberry blonde. Today, at age 19, he has very, very thick, dark, super-straight hair. Colin had little wisps of very blonde hair. Now, at 2 years old, he has thick blonde hair. :) Here's Colin (Joey never lets me take his picture):

DD had a lot of black hair--the longest hairs were probably about 1.5-2 inches long. It grew in a natural center part that looked like I'd been slicking her hair on purpose. It was pretty cute. She still has dark hair, and it's about BSL now (you know, if toddlers wore bras :silly: ).

alien had a fair amount of reddish hair, that had fallen off by the time he was 2 months. now it's grown back, a bit lighter and less red.

My daughter had a full head of dark hair that stood up straight in a baby mohawk.

It's now a dirty blonde color and ultra-fine.

DS had a shock of black hair that all fell out. It grew in a lighter brown.

DD had blonde curly hair! The pediatrician was amazed by it since DH and I both have dark hair. It didn't fall out, but has grown in wavy and golden brown.

Both kids had fur all over their backs, shoulders, and necks.

DS was born with a bit of nice hair, which within a month or so began showing it's curlies. He has a head of really thick wavy brown hair like his Papa now! :)

Let me begin by saying my husband and I were baby opposites. I was totally bald and he had 2"+ of black hair (which changed color when it started growing so he has a picture somewhere with it looking like it was dyed black on the bottom and white blond on the top). He called me a skinhead and I called him Sasquatch. lol

My first son was the closest to bald. Slight red fuzz. Grew in shades of strawberry blond or light red. Now it is a tawny blond.

My second son had 3/4" of black hair. When washed it waved like a 30s permanent. It grew in brown and stood straight up all over. It still does in places.

My third son had 1/2" of blond/brown. It grew in thick and blond. He needed 6 haircuts before he was 1. It's now strawberry blond and wavy.

My fourth son had brown fuzz but a bit longer than #1. At 10 months I can't tell the color...almost a dark brass? A mix of gold, brown, and red.

The one thing that surprises me is that so much red crept in.

Glennagirl,

Jude (my 3rd son) and Colin have very similar hair! The only difference is you can see the stripes of red in the sunlight.

My girls were both born with thick black hair between 1 and 2 inches long. It was too thick for baby ponytailers or the little velcro bows my mom bought. They just popped out. My firstborn's hair was black with blonde tips. The second's hair was solid black. They both had elvish fuzz on their ears, which was adorable when they were babies but I guess we're all happy it fell out eventually....

My sweet little boy was born with black curly hair, which is now a dark brown with natural golden highlights. His hair is *thick* which is a relief, because he lost much of it to cradle cap (on a memorable occasion this was emotionally transmitted to my mom as "cadle crap" lol), and I was soooo relieved to see it grow back. :) His hair is so like mine, it is ridiculous, he even has a persistent little curl on the left side of his forehead, which always kicks up, and did even on Saturday, when we got him quite a short haircut!

That sounds just like my hair history! I was born with a mop of black curls that grew out white blonde and straight.

My hair has darkened over the years as well, now it is a compelling shade of dishwater blonde. *sigh* ;)

My daughter had a little bit of dark hair. It fell out and is now a lovely caramel colour, and straight as a ruler. She has a funny dark patch that is nearly black in the center of her head, where the soft spot was. Everyone asks me if I dye it ;)

My son has quite a lot of hair. I had an ultrasound at 36 weeks, and they could see that he had lots of hair! His hair is dark brown, and curls when wet, so it dries fluffy. There's a lot of curly people on DH's side, so that must be where he gets his curls.

Hubby and I were both blonde babies and children, but we both have dark brown hair now.

Did your child have hair when they were born?

Both of mine had full heads of dark hair. My son lost his after he was a few months old and it came in more my color (ash brown) and curly. He's 8 now and its completely straight and almost coarse. My daughter never lost hers. She's two and I've had to cut her hair 3 or 4 times, major cuts too. Its shoulder and all one length. It did lighten a little bit to my color and is very curly and fine.

My dd had a good bit of black hair with body....the nurses in the hospital curled her hair up in a curled mohawk she had enough hair to put hair bows in (not the ziplock/velcro) the kind with a clip. My ds had some hair but not as much as dd and his was and still is stick straight-Ihad to trim his hair around his ears at 4 months.

My firstborn, my son (12) had a headfull of jet black hair that formed into a natural mohawk! Over time it became light brown, but now it's turning dark again.

My daughter (7) was also born with a lot of black hair that turned into light golden brown ringlets. It's still that shade and so thick & gorgeous!

My youngest (and last) just turned 2. She came out with light blonde hair -- so dramatically different than my other babies! She now has the most beautiful golden blonde curls! She looks like an angel.

DS was born with a full head of very dark hair but it all fell out when he was a couple months old. He was pretty bald for awhile but it grew in a nice thick dark brown.

DD was born with tons of light/medium brown hair. Hers never fell out or changed much in color :)

My daughter was born with a mohawk.. She had some black peach fuzz here and there but a long strip of black hair on the top of her head.. It was sorta cute.. I used it for bows. :) My son had reddish/brown peach fuzz, not too much but at least it was even all around.. Shortly after birth around 4 months, all of their hair fell out, and thick, platinum blonde hair came in. They are both still little blondies even at 13 and 11.. I sure do miss those baby days..

I was born with a a full head of thick black hair. My hair was so abundant and so thick I was actually nicknamed Fluffy for the first 18 months of my life, even after my hair had turned slightly finer and a shade of dark blonde.

My eldest niece was born bald and her hair is blonde and relatively fine, which confused my sister at first... Darling nieceticle has blonde hair and blue eyes, while my sister has dark brown hair and eyes  Looks like she takes after her daddy and our dad who have similar colouring.

I have heard or read stories about some children that don't get hair like 6 months or a year after they were born. Their parents were so happy that hair eventually grew, that they just kept growing their hair as they got older. I know a woman who's daughter did not get her first patches of hair until she was older than one year. So her mother, so happy that she was going to get hair, just kept growing it until she was 16. Then the daughter decided to cut her hair and give it to Ugh: "locks of love" unfortunately. The hair was below her knees before she cut it.

I have five, and the last four all had baby hair. The first one, though, he looked like a little werewolf! He had a full head of dark brown hair and fine dark hair all over his back and shoulders. We have pictures of him less than an hour old in the nursery where he looks like a middle aged body builder, muscular and hairy. Of course, he was almost three weeks late. Still, four are brunette and one is blonde (I think they must have given me the wrong baby at the hospital). I kept trying for a redhead but never got one. DH says "Maybe the next one..." So not.
