View Full Version : *** Products??
Tulip May 23rd, 2003, 03:22 PM Has anyone tried Louise Marie Longhair products. I have about a million of her shampoos left and I'm not sure if I should continue to use them. I send her an email asking wether she uses SLS in the products bec. I'm finding them drying :(
Apparently they are supposed to be all natural so I dunno. I want a good shampoo and conditioner that won't dry my hair out.
Any input??
Tulip

Flaxen May 23rd, 2003, 04:58 PM Hmm, If I remember correctly, there have been others who have tried to find out the ingredients in these products, but were unable to do so. It seems to me that someone even emailed the company and was told that they did not reveal specific ingredients, but don't quote me on that. I hope you have better success. I've never used the products myself, so I can't comment on their gentleness from personal experience.
julieG May 23rd, 2003, 05:03 PM If I recall correctly they do have SLS in them.
Sheba May 24th, 2003, 11:13 AM *** is a Canadian company, right here in downtown Toronto. ::yeah us:: ;)
Canadian law does not require cosmetic companies to print their ingredients on their labels (or otherwise make them available to the public) so most don't. (Food companies do, but not cosmetics.) Part of the reason for this is that we have two offiical languages (French as well as English) and everything printed on labels must be printed in both languages... this makes labels and packaging really expensive. Even a lot of the US companies don't print the ingredients on the products they sell in our stores - saves them money.
I think the maker of *** is just trying to protect her recipes and since by law she doesn't have to reveal their contents, she doesn't.
I'm trying to remember the reviews people have given of her products and if I remember right they found that they went through a difficult period adjusting to them (like MM users), but those who stuck it out found they worked great. But don't quote me on that ;)

Madigan May 24th, 2003, 02:54 PM Must be the Scorpio in my astrological chart but, I find it very suspicious when someone inquires about a single ingredient gets a nasty response (was this LisaJaney?). For all we know, she may just be using dollar-store baby shampoo and adding only witch hazel to it; and bottling it as her own. I'm sorry, but charging outrageous amounts of money for products with secret ingredients is completely and utterly absurd.
LongRed May 25th, 2003, 02:59 AM Hey there Tulip,
GoldLady and I used *** for a couple of months
and I found the products to be very drying for my
hair (which is already on the side of dryness!) I was
finding split ends like no other while using it.
The products certainly smell terriffic (I'm now using them
on my HORSE! Hahahah!) but they were murder on my
hair!!!!!! :(
Louise recommends washing every day, which is something
that my hair couldn't handle and I really didn't want to
do to my hair. Ever since it's been longer, I haven't
washed it every day, and I was afraid to start!
Perhaps I was doing something wrong, which is VERY possible
but for my hair, I was finding that I needed to search for
something else. ;)
Tulip May 26th, 2003, 07:28 AM Thanks for the replies,
I did not get a response from Louise about the SLS ingredients,
Actually I posted the question on one of her member boards so hopefully I'll hear something soon.
I stopped using her shampoos bec. of the dryness in my hair, however I have so many left I don't know what to do with them.
I already gave some to my fiance :)
Right now I'll stick to C/O washes and my new Avalon Rosemary shampoo and conditioner

GoldLady May 26th, 2003, 06:10 PM Hi Tulip.
I used *** for about 6 months and
loved them at first. I followed the
regimen prescribed by *** to the letter -
including the 4 successive washes
per morning.
My hair was so soft and shiny, everone
noticed and I loved it!
I finally did a split search that 'shock
and awed' me! I had MILLIONS of them.
:( :( :( :( :( :( :(
I moved on to other products and have
finally landed on one (Kenra) that I find
minimal splits with. Maybe 1/100th of
what I had on ***.
This is only my personal review and your
mileage may vary. ;) There's always
the women's shelter....
gabiwags May 26th, 2003, 09:39 PM Just want to add
I never used the products but did deal with their company and found them to be outrageous snots.
Also, I have recently tried Kenra and am very impressed - not that I'm giving up being a Hair 'Ho or anything ...g
LisaJaney May 27th, 2003, 06:35 AM Yeah, what Gabi said. I talked to them on the phone (asking about ordering Horn Combs) and they would NOT tell me a postage rate, not even a "ballpark" guess. Said I had to PLACE an order to find out, and could "take back" the order if I didn't think I wanted to pay the postage. I'd heard someone else, at about that time, say that they had paid nearly twenty bucks to mail a comb, and I wanted no part of THAT!
I also emailed them and got a snippy reply. I answered back in kind, informing them that their customer service was horrid if they were going to speak to potential customers in such a RUDE fashion. That they would lose more customers than they would ever gain by having such an atttitude. She didn't think she was rude and asked "where have I been offensive?" So, I quoted her back and then she was more polite. But by then the damage was done. Wonder why they are like that? The statement, "Because of who they think they are" comes to mind....
I am always leery of products who say that all other brands suck, but ours is the BEST. Especially when they're expensive. I suppose that's one reason I have avoided another really popular salon brand, even though they are reputed to be quite GOOD. Well, that, and the fact that I am so cheap that my wallet SQUEAKS when I open it! I must be related to Jack Benny.
Bethany May 27th, 2003, 07:03 AM I'm also a Scorpio and cynical, I've always assumed that the lack of ingredients listings were to cover up the fact that the stuff (I'm guessing) is just like every other shampoo out there, and you could get something similar at Walmart for 1/20 of the price.
But like I said, cynical.

Tulip May 27th, 2003, 08:00 AM Thanks guys,
I got my response back from Louise. She said that there are no SLS in her products and that was it. I think I will give Kenra a try next time.
Sheba May 27th, 2003, 11:14 AM I'm also a Scorpio and cynical, I've always assumed that the lack of ingredients listings were to cover up the fact that the stuff (I'm guessing) is just like every other shampoo out there, and you could get something similar at Walmart for 1/20 of the price.

Okay... this doesn't make sense - I'm also a Scorpio, which means you and I SHOULD get along famously ;)
From what I've read here, *** sounds like a grade A jerk... didn't know she'd been so rude to ya'll. However, like I said, she isn't bound by law to disclose the ingredients. Interesting... considering she's keeping that list hidden, she might be a Scorpio as well
Nitsa May 28th, 2003, 05:46 AM My sister has used *** products faithfully for over a year now and loves them. I tried a few samples of the shampoos and conditioners and liked them but I go for a more natural aproach so I use MM.
I think they are good products but the one thing that I didn't like is how many shampoos you must do to your hair. I think that puts a lot of extra wear and tear on the hair and if I was to use her products I would not wash that many times.
I have ordered my horn comb off of her and I love it. It is my #1 favorite and I plan to get another soon.
