View Full Version : Any Nexxus recommendations? AmandaPanda February 23rd, 2003, 10:44 AM Shampoo, conditioner, treatment, oil? Anything? Thanks! Stephanie February 23rd, 2003, 10:53 AM Shampoo, conditioner, treatment, oil? Anything? Thanks! Ooooooooh! Lemme see...what in Nexxus wouldn't I recommend?! ;) LOL Nexxus is an awesome line. I think my favorite is their Bontanoil oil treatment. It's a mix of tons of different oils and is just awesome on your hair, body, whatever. But then again, you could probably make it in no time at all at home - I don't remember which oils were in it. Anyway, that's always good... The Therape (therapy?) is good, the ...crap! I'm having a brain fart! The whole line in the tall, white bottles with light blue/gray caps on them is good. Can anyone else tell her which one's are good?! I can't remember their names!!! ::grumbles:: Seems like today isn't my brain day, eh? ;) Basically, I just open and sniff. If I like the smell, I read the back and make sure it's compatible with my hair. I've never had a miss with Nexxus that way. HTHS...somewhat, anyway. ;) AmandaPanda February 23rd, 2003, 04:19 PM Thanks Stephanie! I looked at their website...everything sounds really great! Especially the oil, Therappe shampoo, the reconstructors... and... and.... I need to try something! :D AmandaPanda February 23rd, 2003, 04:24 PM One more thing.... how on Earth did you get all of those stars?!?!?!?! Is it because you're the "Site Administrator?" :suspect: That's soooooo unfair! :( (can you tell I like the smilies?! ;) ) Stephanie February 23rd, 2003, 06:36 PM LOL!!! Yup. The mods and I have our stars filled in. ;) I totally forgot to check out their website!!! Great thinking! LOL!!! ;) I'm off to rummage. :D Tresses February 23rd, 2003, 07:07 PM Amanda, my favorite shampoo and conditioner are Nexxus Therappe and Ensure. Therappe is very thick and can be difficult to rinse out but it surprisingly does not weigh my hair down at all as other moisturizing shampoos have. Ensure is an acidifying conditioner and detangler, it seals the cuticle making the hair smooth and shiny. I also have been using Humectress once in awhile during the dry winter months, but during warmer months this conditioner is too heavy for me (probably the mineral oil in it). HTH! :D Dulci February 23rd, 2003, 07:44 PM I really like the Nectaress conditioner from their Phyto Organics line. It's very thin and light, and I don't rinse it completely out, as part of the Curly Girl routine. I have looked for it in lots of places, but can never find it, have to order it online. :( Back in the late 70's I used the Humectress and loved it, but the formulation has changed since then I think. AmandaPanda February 24th, 2003, 04:10 AM Thank you Tresses and Dulci!!! :D CurlyGirl February 24th, 2003, 04:05 PM Ditto on the Nectaress Conditioner! I love that stuff and finally found a local store that carries it, no more paying shipping and handling for me! I also like the Emphasis Redefining Gel for my curls (I'm also on the Curly Girl routine and this is the one gel I don't feel guilty paying $10 for because it works so well every time I use it!). From their regular line, I also like the Ensure conditioner. AmandaPanda February 24th, 2003, 04:18 PM Thanks again! I might go to Brooks Pharmacy and get something. I was in there the other day and saw some Nexxus stuff, but I didn't get a good look. They don't have too much. :| DweamGoiL February 25th, 2003, 07:53 AM the Enphuse Conditioner from the Nexxus Phyto Organics line. This is their reconstructing conditioner 8) Skandelous LaLa March 27th, 2003, 12:21 AM the botanoil shampoo and the the oil treatment are awesome..the peppermint shampoo every once in a while is nice for an energizing boost. tamuller March 27th, 2003, 09:30 AM I have sworn by Therappe, Keraphix, and Humectress for more than 15 years. That changed when my roommate bought the MM products two weeks ago and I've been using those since then. This is the first time I've gone without Humectress by choice (sometimes I haven't been able to afford it). Typically without the Humectress my hair turns into a frizzy ball of straw and tangles and it's a gigantic mess (Humectress is one heck of a great detangler)! Therappe was the only shampoo gentle enough that it did not strip and dry my hair (I use it diluted about one part Therappe to five parts filtered water). I combine the Keraphix with the Humectress (one part Keraphix to two parts Humectress) as a protein reconstructor. They WORK. With the MM products, my hair hasn't freaked out without the Humectress like it usually does (much to my amazement, I still can't figure out how or why). I'm going to stick with the MM until this experiment of my roommate's is done. However, this is the first time in 20 years I've found something that - apparently - works for my hair other than the Therappe/Keraphix/Humectress combo. (You can check out all of the products I've tried over the past couple of years and whether they were a hit or miss, here: http://geocities.com/tramuller/products.html) I still **HIGHLY** endorse the Nexxus products, particularly if you have fine, dry hair - Humectress is an incredible moisturizer and detangler. I live in the driest part of the North American continent in the middle of a desert and I'm convinced that Humectress has saved my hair from turning to broken straw and having to cut it off! HTH, sorry about the long post. Tracey Axium March 28th, 2003, 03:44 PM Tracey, you sent me running to the store today. I got Humectress on your glowing post, and also Ensure (I have hard water; an acidifying balance sounds great!). I've never used any Nexxus before, so can't wait til wash day again (drat, it was earlier today). It is pricey, but hopefully diluting and mixing with Suave humectant conditioner will stretch it out for a good while. Can't wait to try it - you said all the magic sales words for me! alienwiredgirl January 5th, 2005, 04:37 PM nexxus is the only shampoo/conditioner that i have been loyal to for the past 2 years. have said this i don't like there younger hair leave in condioner (step 3) , i do love the younger looking hair line however i looked at the ingredients on the shampoo and was disapointed to see that they had products that were a no / no on the thread that described the bad ingredients you should look for in sh and co. i'm still new at this board but if i find the link i'll post it... alienwiredgirl January 5th, 2005, 04:44 PM also i know that its a bit pricey but a pair of bottles last me about 6 months. i only use a little little bit and it works amazing. how has it been since have you noticed any difference? yseult January 5th, 2005, 04:51 PM I love Therappe! It smells wonderful and is pretty gentle on your hair for a shampoo. I'd recommend checking out the Sally Beauty Supply Generic version for an identical, cheap option though. If you're like me you can fill up your pretty Nexxus bottle with the generic :) I dislike Humectress, though. It gave me the worst hair I've ever had-- coated, puffy, frizzy, you name it. I couldn't run my fingers through it after drying-- odd, because it is a decent detangler. I don't think my hair enjoys mineral oil or petrolatum, the two main moisturizers. I am a straightie and I think the curlies like it much better... IMHO, Keraphix is an excellent weekly protein treatment but it's easily matched by ApHogee's Two Minute Keratin Reconstructor. This is my favorite hair product and at $7.99/ 16 oz. (Sally's again) it's super-affordable. But you asked me about Nexxus, sorry  alienwiredgirl January 5th, 2005, 04:54 PM do you remember what sally's generic version's name was? MissKeisha January 5th, 2005, 04:59 PM I LOVE Nexxus, but then again I have thick coarse 4a hair. I would recommend Therappe because its very moisturizing, especially since my hair has a tendency to get dry. I also recommend Humectress only to those with thick coarse hair as it is a very heavy conditioner. HTH and good luck. TheSpottedCow January 5th, 2005, 05:06 PM ive used humectress and the botanical oil. just this last time i mixed the two and it was great. id used some oil in my hair before the shampoo too (its very dry and color treated). so today its getting greasy fast. but the ends are VERY soft. i bought humectress before my hair was colored. and when it was healthy the conditioner made it feel coated and nasty, but now that my hair is longer and dryer, it is perfect. id recommend it if you have dry hair or coarse hair. if your hair is already healthy then it might be too much. ive also used it as a leave in. but a little goes a long way. the botanical oil worked for me. and im sure it would work for anyone whose hair works well with oils. ive never used this as a leave in. only a few drops mixed with humectress or as a pre shampoo. ive never tried the shampoos from them. yseult January 5th, 2005, 06:10 PM alienwiredgirl: the bottle isn't pretty. It's just one of their white bottles with black writing that says "Moisturizing Shampoo - Generic for Nexxus Therappe". On the back it lists ingredients for itself and the real thing, and they match. (The fragrances don't always, but the Therappe version is very similar.) There should be a whole section of those type of bottles at your Sally's. good luck! haley January 10th, 2005, 11:18 PM I remember using Humectress years ago, but I can't remember if I liked it a lot...I seem to think I did. I guess I'm off to get a bottle of it and see how I fare. There's certainly a lot of pro-Humectress talk from curlies on the boards. AmandaPanda January 27th, 2005, 11:41 AM I've tried a few Nexxus products as well as "Generics" and they're great! Ensure, Headress, Generic Humectress, and Generic Aloe Rid ...all wonderful! but, Headress smells! reddhot January 27th, 2005, 11:58 AM I have tried the Nexxus Humectress and Sally's generic version and they are both pretty good, I could hardly tell a difference in what they did for my hair. I really like the Nexxus Emergencee reconstructor my hair ALWAYS feels much better after I use it... Wrathgara March 8th, 2005, 10:38 PM i have humectress, therepee, emergengee recontructor and thus far i really really like the shampoo, the conditioner smells really good (reminds me of babies) and the recontructor is super weird and sticky and i haven't found a diff. yet although i'm thinking a heat cap might help remedy the situation. Basketcase March 8th, 2005, 11:04 PM any1 here know if the suave knock off of humectress is just as good?.. if it is ill definately buy it because it is soo much cheaper rainee March 9th, 2005, 06:37 AM any1 here know if the suave knock off of humectress is just as good?.. if it is ill definately buy it because it is soo much cheaper The Suave knockoffs usually have VERY difft ingredient lists than what they're "copying". Usually much more cone-laden. Other than the names suave puts on them, they generally have NOTHING to do with the original. That being said, I stopped looking at their stuff and reading the ingredient lists long ago, so it's possible that they changed their formulas. Snow White March 9th, 2005, 06:45 AM any1 here know if the suave knock off of humectress is just as good?.. if it is ill definately buy it because it is soo much cheaper My hair really likes the Suave version. I've not compared the ingredients. AmandaPanda March 9th, 2005, 07:07 AM any1 here know if the suave knock off of humectress is just as good?.. if it is ill definately buy it because it is soo much cheaper It isn't. Well...I haven't tried the "real" version, but I like the "Generic" (from Sally's) much better than the Suave version Sally March 9th, 2005, 07:22 AM Well, I must be the only one here who has not had good results with Nexxus. The Therape shampoo dried my hair out something fierce. And I didn't like the Humectress either -- gave away the majority of a HUGE bottle of the stuff. Who hte heck knows why????? MorningDove March 9th, 2005, 12:04 PM After discovering the LHC, and also purchasing a book about hair products written by Paula Begoun, I bought 3 lines: Phyto, Joico, and Nexxus. The Nexxus products I purchased were: Emergencee Strenthening Polymeric Resconstructor KerapHixx Restorative Protein Creme Reconstructor Botanoil Treatment Shampoo Humectress Ultimate Moisturizing Conditioner I am especially fond of Emergencee. It goes on like a slick honey, and I can really feel the difference in my hair after using it. I shampoo every 3-5 days, and now I deep-condition every time. After applying the condish, I wrap with Cling Wrap, cover with a thin (hotel-free-type) shower cap, then with an insulated winter cap (DH's), then I wait 30 minutes or even an hour or two before jumping back in the shower to rinse w lukewarm water (b-r-r-). My hope is that the heat of the scalp/head permeates the hair at least a little under the winter hat. Nexxus suggests using Emergencee every 2 weeks, and following with Humectress. At first I was using Emergencee and Keraphix, one after the other (3 showers in one day), but after an email inquiry to Nexxus, I infer from their answer that there isn't any benefit in using both on the same day. So now I use one or the other but not both. (I color, using L'Oreal Excellence, so I always select the products designated for damaged/dry/colored hair. The Begoun book indicates there isn't much difference between products for damaged vs color-treated or permed hair.) 1953Diygal May 1st, 2005, 06:15 PM Emergencee is a great product. I use it to slick back my hair at the temples, since I am prone to breakage there. I recently purchased a lot of 3 bottles for about $10 on eBay (they were the old bottle style). What do you guys think of the Nexxus hair vitamins? I found a site online which sells them for $14. Are they worth it? 1953Diygal May 1st, 2005, 06:18 PM By the way, what is the general consensus on the Nexxus Phyto Organics line? I keep coveting them whenever I see them at the salon, but the bottles are just so small.... bowie May 2nd, 2005, 10:56 AM A vote for the GENERIC Nexxus Aloe Rid--great and gentle clarifying shampoo. It is the best. No dryness. Easy on the scalp. And cheap!! Get it at Sally's:cloud9: Dulci May 3rd, 2005, 07:52 AM By the way, what is the general consensus on the Nexxus Phyto Organics line? I keep coveting them whenever I see them at the salon, but the bottles are just so small.... I really liked the Nectaress conditioner when I tried it a few years ago, it is very thin and slippy and rinses clean. Just the way I like my conditioners. I also have the Emphasis Redefining Gel, it is a Curly Girl routine-friendly gel. If only I knew how to use gel the right way! Tap Dancer May 3rd, 2005, 08:06 AM Not long ago I found the Generic Nexxus Moisturizing Conditioner at Sally's. I love it! I use it after CO as a more moisturizing treatment. Mina May 4th, 2005, 10:08 AM Out of the Phyto line, I tried the Babassu Mud Revitalizing Treatment. I just loved :inlove: the smell, but unfortunately, this conditioner was *way* too light for my damaged hair. I do believe it's a good conditioner for hair that isn't too much damaged and that likes a bit of protein and oil (the Babassu Mud contains a little Quinoa Protein and Babassu Oil). |
