Are you still using this?

For those who haven't heard of Monoi, go to www.tahiti-iti.com to read about it (you can buy it here too).

For myself, I tend to only use Monoi in the summer and switch to jojoba or some other oil in the winter. I was just rubbing it into my hands just now and thinking that it's warm enough to start using it again.

Whatcha think?

I love the monoi when I do use oil. I think I might change scents next time, as the sandalwood sounds more appealing these days. I'm currently out of it because I dropped my bottle and it must have cracked because I came home to a puddle of oil on my vanity :(

I still list it as one of my favorites for post-shower oiling.

Not another Monoi oil casualty! :( Alot of people switch their monoi into another container (even one with a "pump" on it, to avoid contaminating the oil) to prevent spills.

The monoi oil bottles are very precarious. I haven't switched mine over, but have *almost* spilled it a few times.

:D I think the pump idea would only work during the warm months! I bought mine in early March and it was always solid!

Tried it, was too heavy for my hair, nice as a bath oil.

I use sandalwood monoi as a body oil occasionally, my hair didn't like it. :?

I still use it sometimes, maybe once or twice a month, but usually use jojoba now. I did miss the great sandalwood scent at first but that was easy enough to take care of with some jojoba & sandalwood EO in my mister. My ends feel alot better now too so maybe the monoi didn't agree with my hair as much as I thought it did. A big plus is that my jojoba is never solid when I want to use it :D

I used to use Monoi a lot until I was
introducted to Jojoba. I really like
Jojoba oil for me....it goes a long way
and smells great! :)

Hi, I just got my Monoi this week, (the day before my Kenra samples) :) Just like Christmas. I'm finding that I get the crunchies from oil. I liked olive oil and figured Monoi would be great. Now the question is how do I get rid of the crunchies on my ends. I did a Feye's trim last night, about 3/4 to an inch. :( So I'm about 29 1/2 inches (I didnt measure after the trim.)

Cheers, Speedqueen

I still have and use Monoi, but not as a leave-in or
a conditioning product.

I found that using too much Monoi
(or too often, rather)
caused my ends
to become crispy, suffering from Harpo... (Hair Product Overload)

But for a detangler right before the shower,
especially after I've worn my hair down or curly,
it can't be beat for the slip.
And because I use it right before the shower, my
hair doesn't absorb too much of it.
I still love the vanilla and sandalwood scents the best.

We've been using it for a few months, and like it.

only once or twice a week though, because of the fear of making the ends too crunchy, as stated by some here.

we have the regular and vanilla scented. (the scent of them are just great)

I hate monoi, it made my ends so brittle I had to cut off two inches once. Jojoba and sweet almond rule!

I love monoi. Jojoba makes my hair feel weighted down and icky.
It's funny how different people like different things! :D

I tried 3 types of Monoi but all made my hair crunchy.

Then I switched to virgin Coconut (unscented and unfractionated) and it was brilliant - no crunchies.

Recently, I have been using Extra Virgin Cold-Pressed Avocado oil (food-grade, from Waitrose in the U.K) and it is the BEST. Hair is moisturised and soft - the oil soaks right in and does not leave a greasy/sticky texture on the hair.

So I get to save on the shipping cost of Monoi and have crunch-free locks :-)

Each to their own!!

I still use Monoi. Just a few drops on dry hair to tame the frizz. Sometimes heavily at night before washing the next morning. Sometimes I add it to my homemade deep conditioner, or for a hot oil treatment. Ylang Ylang and Sandalwood are my favorites. I use other oils as well, so I haven't encountered any problems with crunchies. I find that I use it more in the warmer months just because I don't have to melt it every time I want to use it.

I also use it as an after shower body oil. Loooooove that! :D

I still like it but I like sweet almond too... but Monoi is a little lighter.

I have only been using it a little while but my hair loves it. In fact I have never had an oil work so well on my hair.I have used sweet almond, avacado and olive oil in the past but they nevergave me such a good result. The olive oil was so hard to get out all the shampoo I had to use undid any benefit the oil might have done :x :x :x :x

Monoi oil makes the ends of my hair crunchy if used as a leave-in, but it's fine for pre-wash oiling.

I voted occasionally, but more for my skin than for my hair.

I think my hair hates oils! :( <pout>

Another case of crunchy ends for me. Also, I think it was too heavy for my hair, and it weighed it down. It wasn't a good look.

I vote No, I found another oil.

I began using EVOO while I was using Monoi. The EVOO left my ends feeling so much softer.
I doubt I will ever go back to the Monoi. I just tossed the tiny bits left in the bottles away.
Loved the smell of Monoi though.

I looove the vanilla monoi...but recently I thought that it would be better to use it in the warmer months, simply because it solidifies at the drop of a hat, and I don't want it to solidify in my hair! Maybe that's what causes it to give some people crunchy ends?

I had not even thought of that, Wonderlywrought. That could very well be the case for the crunchy ends syndrome.

I've tried lots of different oils, monoi (sandalwood, yum!), jojoba, sesame, apricot, avocado, EVOO. They all made my hair crunchy. I think they smothered my hair and won't let it breathe or something.

Here's an interesting article, the author doesn't like oils for hair either: Quench the Thirst of Frizzy Hair (http://www.pioneerthinking.com/frizzies.html).

I like the results of monoi oil, I just don't like the smell. I'm not a fan of heavy, lingering perfume scents, and that's how monoi oil smells to me.

I'm sticking with my camellia oil. :inlove:

I still use monoi once and a while. I don't have much left and I am not sure if I will reorder. I like to use Equestrians Glossing Gel the best.
3 parts aloe vera gel to 1 part jojoba

I have used and still like to use Monoi oil (gardenia scented), but I rarely use it on my ends because of the crunchy factor. However, I love to use it on the thickness of my hair because it does wonders to smoothe and soften my frizzies.

I began using Monoi 3 years & 2 months ago. It is completely compatible with my hair type. I use it by the tablespoons by completely soaking my hair with it and braiding usually in 2 pigtails for the night. I used it as recently as yesterday morning a couple of hours before washing. My ends have never become crunchy. In fact, I have not found a single split end in the 3 years since I had 30 inches trimmed from my hair. I use Jojoba in the winter when the Monoi solidifies, and I cannot wait until I see the Monoi liquify to begin using it again. It won't be long until I will buy another bottle from Tahiti-Iti.com.

I store the Monoi in its original glass bottle in my cabinet out of the sunlight. I pour only a travel size plastic fliptop full to work out of to prevent spillage or contamination. The shelf life is insignificant for me, as I use my supply in one season. I like the fragrance, especially to wear the Monoi to bed and sleep with the wonderful fragrance in the bedroom.

I share Monoi with my lake friends. We oil our hair and our skin during weekends spent on houseboats.

Are you still using this?

Hi Valerie! :waving: Long time no see! Um.. Read..?

I didn't vote in your poll because the only -no- answer had -found another oil I like more- tagged onto it. Unfortunately, no oils for me. :-( My hair doesn't like them...

How have you been and how's your hair doing?

In fact, just this week I've rediscovered my monoi - the vanilla scent - because in summer it's handsdown the best detangler there is. I put it on damp hair. Since my hair is up, I don't mind if it's on the oily side. Monoi and avocado remain my dearest oily loves!

PS
I've never had crunchy ends from anything. I don't even know what that means. And now, reading these posts, I'm appreciating this!

I love this oil and use it in the summer. It makes me feel like I'm in a cool botanical garden.
