View Full Version : I think I tortured my hair today -

I was trying to make it look "special" - I had to play in a wedding today. OK, so I'm not a member of the wedding party, but I'm also not just a guest. So I wanted to look nice. I used Redken Spray Starch on my hair, then used a regular curling iron all the way around my hair. The curl looked nice, but the top look flat. I experimented with different things (careful teasing, changing the part, etc). I finally went with a half-up style with my small victorian bird barrette, and a few pieces hanging down in front. Then of course, there's the lovely short halo pieces to deal with. So I curled them under too. Not too bad; I must say it looked wonderful FROM THE BACK. Too bad no one takes those kind of pictures at weddings!

Also too bad that I had to put on a winter coat and go out in the wind to get to the church. Even with Spray Starch and a spritz of generic hairspray, the curl relaxed a lot. So I was kind of bummed. But I also know 1) the more I mess with it, the worse it becomes; and 2) No one else probably cared what my hair looked like. (I hope)

Now I'm home, with it all brushed out and in a ponytail.

I'm sure your hair looked wonderful. And you can treat it to lots of extra treats (like hot oil treatments, extra conditioning etc), to make up for the "stress" you put it through today. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Hi Lady!

Just out of curiosity,
was your hair brand new fresh that day,
or washed the night before, or
one / two or more days dirty?

I find that if I try to go somewhere with a 'do' fresh
from that day, everything goes crappy unless I am
wearing it straight down, which I never do.

But give it one day dirty, and my hair will
do just about anything. Jump through hoops,
curl, hold curl, etc.

I know you looked just smashing,
so don't worry too much.

A little torture is not so bad, usually recovers after a good soaking - bet it looked super hot ...:DD...g

Hmm...I'll have to remember that KM. You know, come to think of it....when I skip a days washing, my hair holds the curl from my scrunchi bun for a looooong time.

<bugs bunny voice> IN-teresting! ;)

pffhhht...right....like I have an easy way to do THAT. And I always feel strange asking one of my kids to take a picture - they think I'm nuts enough about hair by just visiting hair boards.

Seriously, tho, I am thinking about buying one of those little cheap digital cameras - $25-50 range - just for hair pictures. That's about the only pictures I wish I could post.

And Karen Marie - yes, it was day-old hair. I thought that would help.

Funny how when we try too hard, our hair doesn't meet our expectations. But today, I like my hair. I washed all the gunk out, ACV, conditioned, raked some gel through, put a few big clips in and let it airdry. Then just before church, I gently raked my fingers through it. Not "special occasion hair" by any means, but I like it! (and no pictures - drat!)

My luck, I'll get that cheap lil cam, and won't have any more good hair days to post :P

Don't you just hate it when your hair plans go astray? I'm sure it looked great. Look at it this way....with short hair every day is a bad hair day! :D

I'm sure you looked LOVELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I did the same thing you did a few weeks ago . . . I messed with my hair too much, and my wonderful (in my head) hair creation ended up being a bun held with a Ficcare!!! ;)

It is fun trying out new hair styles. Don't you hate when the style goes too quick? But I'll bet it looked great while it lasted. :)
