View Full Version : Q about our new wooden hair toys. Nitsa May 13th, 2003, 03:52 AM I was thinking that I could oil it without causing any problems. What do you think? LisaJaney May 13th, 2003, 06:16 AM I have oiled mine. There were a few edges on the back that I thought needed a bit of sanding, so I did that, then oiled it with the oil I got with my Ric's comb (www.combmaker.com). It's a blend of orange oil and beeswax, basically. I don't just use "normal" oils for it. (fear of oils going rancid, after I oiled a cutting board with veg-oil years ago and it did start to have that "old oil" aroma.) It brought out the figuring of the wood and I LOVE it. I also use that oil for un-varnished hairsticks I own (like my hairfork from Eve - blondiesturn on eBay) and it's great. I also have some oil similar to it, lemon oil and beeswax, called "Howard's Feed-n-Wax" or some such thing. Heck, I have to send some of that to JennaPea! Thanks for reminding me! HTH, Madeleine May 13th, 2003, 07:17 AM I have been oiling all of mine at least once with no ill effects. I used Jojoba because I figured it woudn't go rancid. I wiped the toys with an oily cloth and let them sit overnight, in the morning the wood had absorbed all the excess. Nitsa May 14th, 2003, 03:42 AM Thanks, I have been using Monoi on my comb that I have from Ric and like it a lot better then the oil that he sent so I think I will try that. |
