View Full Version : Can hair cause headaches?

I was just wondering if anyone else has had headaches related to the length of their hair. For the last couple of months, ever since my hair got to be about 36 inches in length, I've been having headaches - especially when it's up, but also when it's down. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so what did you do to solve it?

Welcome to the boards, JustMe! :)

I do not experience hair related headaches, UNLESS I've put my hair up and not paid attention to where it is located and/or slightly pulled a hair. THEN I do get a headache, but as soon as I rearrange my hair or clip, I"m fine.

and, Welcome! :)

My oldest daughter thought her headaches were due to her classic length hair so she cut it to shoulder length. No help at all. What she thought was hair related turned out to be sinus and weather related headaches, related directly to oncoming fronts, etc.

I suppose it is possible but I would investigate other causes, such as allergies, weather, sinus, stress, etc.

- washing with a shampoo that dried my scalp
- not removing the grease from oil or deep conditioning
- using the wrong type of clips that held my hair little tight

all these gave me headache.

i had headaches even when i had tailbone length hair, but more frequent when i had shoulder length short hair. maybe i shampooed very often with short haircut..

If I get my bun or ponytail in just the right place it can give me a headache. I think it's more of an ache of the scalp rather than a real head ache. Or if I get my hair sticks or Ficcare stuck in my bun the wrong way it can be painful.

Now I would say bad hair days can cause a stress headache :D So short hair = bad hair days = headaches :D

This is funny - I'd sorta accepted it as a part of having long hair. Whenever I wear updos, I quite often get headaches. And I've talked to other longhairs in RL, and they've commented the same thing - even a loose ponytail will do it.

Most of the people I talked with had thick hair, so maybe the thickness has something to do with it....?

Yep, usually when my hair gets a few more inches below my waist the weight seems to become too much, and I get headaches. Generally I whack off about a foot then (no kidding). :no Maybe I'll try to let it get further down and see if I can deal with it this time. I always keep it long, just not SOO long.

Same here. My updos frequently cause headaches. Of the ones I do, I've found that updos using my ficcare maximus and updos that are figure 8 buns are the least likely to cause headaches. Although, they still sometimes (like right now ) give me a headache, no matter the amount of rearranging I do.

I'd concur that it may be a thickness thing.

I get hair-related headaches, but not just because of the length/weight per se.

If I put my hair up right on top of my head it will give me a headache.

If I insert a hairstick or clip in wrong, catch some hairs or make an updo too tight I will get a massive headache.

Some strong product scents give me a headache.

Fortunately all of these can be solved without scissors :)
